I think what makes Evan Peter's eyes have that sort of "intense" pop that he has as Tate is that they're a very dark brown, while his hair is a light-ish blond. He has large eyes for a guy and they stand out because they're so dark. As Tate he's supposed to be kind of creepy and intimidating, but when he plays a "good guy" in the second season, they cut and darkened his hair. I think this was actually a tone setting choice as much as based on time period, honestly. He looks older with the shorter, darker hair, than the shaggy "over the eyes" blond hair that Cole also has, but he also seems way less intense. In the third season, again, he's back to being a "creepy" and "dangerous" character, so there's the shaggy, over the eyes blond hair back.

But I'm not really sure this would have gone into design concept choices for Cole. Another color of eyes could still get a similar striking effect, like an icy blue or emerald green, or even like a dark grey or dark blue that would have a similar popping effect as the dark brown. I don't know that David Gaider saw American Horror Story and conceptualized Cole's design around Evan Peters, or if he saw Evan Peters later and decided he was a good match for the design he'd already made. He certainly is a good match, though, I'd say. And that's not even because I'm his stalker.

Okay, let's discuss!

I was thinking a lot about Cole in game and now I think character from site not a Cole even if he looks similar. Have few reasons to think so.

First. Concept of spirit in group seems to me lore unfriendly. Too many questions how? How he could walk so long out of fade? If he demon, he must drink someone life, or what? If he is a spirit, then he must be in someone's body like Wynne or Anders. But we already had two spirit possessed companions. How other party members would react on Cole? Some party members might think it is too dangerous creature to let Cole live. And why would any fade creature help to close portals? Too complicated to explain, too dangerous to trust him.

Second. If it is really Cole, his in game model looks awesome, attractive. Why give people attractive and interesting character and then cut off any feelings? It is like create a super sexy Sandal, Player will come and say something like " Hey love, want to chat a little " And hear famous "Enchantment!" Now imagine that player face

Third. Much easier to create character who will remind some other popular person, but more fin in current situation. No need to explain all that Cole stuff to people who never read a book. " Hello, I'm mage hunter from Tevinter" Seems much more simple than "Hello I'm demon spirit from a fade in a boy body with mystic dagger" Bioware have a lot of followers to write and limited time and budget.

I hope I were able explain myself to you, because it is somewhat hardcore to translate thoughts on foreign language.

We've had spirits before in the team, though yeah they where possessing a body in the book Cole is a massive oddity through the entire thing. He's a massive question mark to even the characters who can sense and figure out demons/spirits. We have been discussing ideas to what Cole could possibly be, and so far it's been hard to pin point because we haven't a clue XD. From Asunder, it actually doesn't tell us a single thing about Cole, Lambert is an unreliable source of information even with that book of his, Wynne may have known or was being honest about how she didn't know.

Cole I find to be massively Lore interesting, because there's so much we don't know about the spirits other then demons=bad spirits=good unless corrupted then go crazy pants. The fade and spirits are barely known to even the inhabitants of Thedus, and even those who study it don't seem to have that much of a grasp on it.

He doesn't seem to have any ties to the Fade emotionally, and it doesn't seem to be the reason why he's in the world. We don't know how much he knows about himself and or how much he cares about it. His reasons for joining the Inquisition is theorized that he will join because possibly Rhys and Eva were at the explosion. If this is true, then he has a huge reason for wanting to close the rifts, wanting to take part in this whole demon slaying thing if the explosion is done by the demons. It killed his only friends. He had nothing but them. He said at the end of the book he didn't want to be useless or something to that effect, thus becoming more out going towards the events going on beyond him.

Cole being pretty and not being romancable is well, based more about his emotional and mental state more then anything. Just because he's physically attractive/fits the pretty boy companion slot doesn't mean that should automatically put him in an LI state. Even then, Coles not all that interesting to some people when it comes to attractiveness. Iron Bull for example is a character I have seen people practically begging to the skies to be an LI, and well he's a big beefy Qunari. So really just because Coles model is pretty doesn't lend to the excuse he should be an LI, certainly if he's acting the similarly to how he did in Asunder (probably without meaning to since the leaked information on him was he was 'plauged by the memories', and I always read that as 'having trouble separating himself from those memories')

And for the last bit, Bioware never takes the easy route for their characters/companions. This is Bioware after all, they are all about having interesting complex characters with well written dialog and personalities. They more then likely had the companions and their stories finished way before we even saw a glimce of them, and this being the end stretch I'm fairly sure they are not still working on companions personal stories still. They have tons of writers on the team, and each one of them focus on certain characters, so the person handling Cole will obviously be Gaider since he created Cole in the book, so he already had the story of Cole done back when that book came out.

I think Cole is more of a 'Hi I don't care what I am, I'm here to help' is going to fit more on his quick break down since that leaked paragraph on him pretty much said he doesn't give a hoot.

I probably should have split that with numbers...

Well firstly, I assume you've read Asunder - the novel gave hints as to what Cole is and he can exist in the real world. The general consensus seems to be that he is a spirit/demon who inadvertently took on the identity of a dead Mage and unknowingly used blood from the Mages he killed to remain in the waking world.
This may be right. It may also be wrong.

In my opinion, a spirit/demon could work as a companion - in fact, the sheer mystery of Cole's nature seems like a good argument for his inclusion. He would be something entirely different, and could offer a whole new perspective on the Fade.

In terms of how party members will react to him - well, probably in many different ways. In past games you threw together a haphazard group of companions, some liked each other, some detested each other, but they all fought for a common cause.

Second. If it is really Cole, his in game model looks awesome, attractive. Why give people attractive and interesting character and then cut off any feelings? Different people find different things "attractive". I am certain that Cole's inclusion has nothing to do with how attractive he may or may not look, and everything to do with his character, skills and story being interesting and important.

Third. Much easier to create character who will remind some other popular person, but more fin in current situation. No need to explain all that Cole stuff to people who never read a book. I'm not particularly fond of including book/comic/film characters in the games, but I find Cole too interesting to argue against.
Yes, Bioware could have come up with another character who requires less explanation, but would that character have been as interesting? I trust Bioware to write their characters well, and I don't think I'll be disappointed.

TL;DR - There is no official confirmation that Cole is even in the game - he may or may not be the 'unknown rogue' - but, in my opinion, he would be an excellent addition to DAI, and I hope one day we do get to find out more about him.

I think he definately will be an exellent addition to DAI, But everyone think 'unknown rogue' is Cole, I just want to explain different view on that character, may be it is not a Cole, may be that 'not Cole' companion will be better than famous and popular spirit from book. If people would all 5 month waiting for Cole and Bioware tells us it is 'Human rogue from Orlay' there will be so many tears!

Personaly for me it would be interesting to know more about Cole personality, to talk a lot, I love interesting, non standart characters. In real live I can't resist interesting people with attractive appearance. So I afraid my inquisitor will walk around and mutter why this kid can't grow up mentally.

True, although the main reason people think that the blonde rogue is Cole(apart from the leak survey that suggests that he's in)is also because his looks match his description from the book and also the cover art(I assume it is already posted but I'll repost it anyway).
Cole is one of the characters that I'm really looking forward to see in the game,I'm really interested in learning more about how he evolved after the end of the book and what made him join up with the inquisition. But most importantly, what I'd like to know is how do the tears in the fade affect him.

Between the leaked profile in the survey and the appearance of the rogue in the trailer being what you would expect Cole to look like, I think it's almost certainly Cole. It's interesting that some people have the opinion that they wouldn't add a pretty companion if they weren't intended as a romance.

What's just as interesting is people think [what we assume is Cole in the character line up] is attractive. Even though the character is obscured and very low detail due to LOD distance rendering. And we only have the one in game image. I mean...unless it's just the blonde Caucasian thing? Or the hair in his face? I don't even know... To each their own I guess.

This sort of reminds me of this:whistle:

Mr Gaider said at one point that one of his characters ended up looking 10 times hotter than he intended.    If it was Cole, that might be your answer.

I thought Solas was the one in the Judas position. I'm still not really sure there is going to be a traitor at all, though. I hope there's not one you can't avoid.

While I don't recall the exact wording off hand, I remember that Cole's survey description hinted at him being able to take a darker path than the others. That could be the Judas reference, even if it's not an out and out betrayal.

Yeah, it said you could influence him to prey on the living or to join them.

I still think Solas is more likely if we're talking scripted betrayal.  Beyond that, I suspect many if not most of your companions could potentially betray the Inquisitor for one reason or another.  We've seen it before...

Bring on the betrayal, Cole. Your daggers are no match for mine.

Also, Evan Peters? ....

......

......

Ew.

Although I will agree that he would make a good Cole. He certainly is deathly pale enough.

Considering that we know nothing about Solas' personality, I think it's a bit of a leap to say he's more likely to betray us than the serial killer on the team.

Perhaps.  But...

It's just a theory, but no more outlandish than Cole betraying us based on a screenshot.  If we want to point to the survey as proof, Iron Bull's survey description also made it sound like he could turn on us.  Cole's description looked more like a decision to be made rather than a certainty, and that just sounds like normal companion loyalty wobble based on the PC's actions.

I find the whole tieing things to the religious aspect rather silly. I know there are numbers of way to show a group shot, but they chose that one because it makes a very dramatic pull back, and I doubt they ever had the intentions of making it all religious connection. I really don't think they meant for it to tie into that visual theme.

I mean, people have done this before with Biowares game, that one Induction Theory from Mass Effect 3 was interesting and had a lot of ground but was shot down by Bioware because it just wasn't what they where going for. Sometimes, a red door is just a red colored door you know?

The last supper thing is silly. If we're going by the most famous version, Da Vinci's, Solas would be Judas. Cole would be Peter. I think a lot of people just want Cole to be the bad guy. But it's still probably irrelevant.

If it was relevant at all, I would assume something similar with Solas. Especially since if Cole likes you, he'd probably be the most loyal guard dog you could ever ask for.

Also, we already know we can make the characters unhappy with us and leave or worse. Poor Cole keeps getting the brunt of the betrayal but he might not even be the worst for these.

Not saying I buy into the Last Supper thing, but:

Judas in the painting is actually the guy with the brown beard sitting lower than everyone else.

39499-Leonardo_LastSupper_Judas.jpg

If you look at the companions in that scene, Varric assumes a pose that is very similar to this. It is the similarity in their pose that struck me more than how many spots on the table they all are from the Inquisitor. Everyone talks about Cole or Solas, but it is Varric that leans on the table just like Judas.

He does have a red-lyrium infused Bianca in many playthroughs as well...

Yeah, Varric is in the closest pose like Judas, while Solas is in the correct position away from the Inquisitor (Jesus) to be Judas. Cole is just sort of hanging out in the background like Peter.
