I was looking for that answer for 3 weeks now. I hope game release or some more info about characters will answer that.
Like maybe Solas will get hair, or Dorian will either shave or grow more appropriate facial hair that doesn't make me think he wants to lure me into his unmarked white van with candy.
I always saw it as he was more embarrassed that he invaded her personal space and found out. He watched mages have sex and felt neither urges or embarrassed by that.
But to be fair, nothing was said about whether he felt urges or embarrassed, or not. I do recall it being stated he had witnessed that sort of thing a lot, and I'll repeat what I said earlier. Take a normal adult irl. With anxiety, depression, or some mental illness like that. They become numb to certain emotions and feelings, especially sex drive and "urges". That's kind of how I see Cole. He was in a dark, lonely place at the time. He's hardly going to get a rock in his pants is he lol?* He had bigger issues cluttering up his mind. Just my take on it.

Well, sadly Word of God (so far) says he's a kid, but yes, if you just took the novel itself and how it portrayed Cole, there were definitely many ways to read him other than "sexless child."

Been using romance as a loose DA term. And if you want to get all factual, "Platonic - (of love or friendship) intimate and affectionate but not sexual." And that is EXACTLY what I mean, and have meant the last 100 times I used the word.
But then it's not a romance. It literally is a max friendship relationship. Unless you're wanting extra stuff that hasn't been in DA2 or DA:O, like the ability to hug your friends whenever you want. In which case I would want that for every maxed friendship companion - no reason for Cole to get special treatment.

Fan works will probably explode upon the scene once the game releases. I know I felt uncomfortable writing those DA:I Cullen-centric fics cause I felt like I was 98% wrong about what the story would be

It didn't used to be so feisty, just a lot of conversations and theory crafting on Cole. I donno why there has to be so much chatter about Coles romantic possibilities/lack there of when that's really the least interesting thing about him personally.
I suppose it's just the dry info we have to work with, looping around and around XD
