A fair point on moral ambiguity. But in any case, that doesn't really strengthen the case for him being an LI. I mean, at the end of the day he's still got the mind of an exceptionally abused and deranged child. That, in and of itself, should really completely disqualify him.

Yikes. So many people demanding a romance with a developmentally delayed demon in the form of a human who thinks knifing people while making them stare him in the eyes is fun. Seriously, before you go on hoping that Cole (if it is indeed Cole) be an attractive blonde tortured soul, go and actually read Asunder. This is not a character capable of consenting to any kind of relationship. He is a sociopath. He thinks the rules of right and wrong either don't exist or don't apply to him. He knows killing people is wrong, yet he does it anyways because of compulsions and because the rules are different for him.
The only time he stops himself is because he thinks it will get him into trouble with his friend, not because he thinks it's wrong. And then at the end of the book he goes and does it again, but this time is fully aware he is not actually Cole. He's... something else. And the rules do not apply to him, in his mind.
That's, quite frankly, terrifying. Even Jack still had a sense of right and wrong, and though she was crazy and violent, she wasn't outright sociopathic. Morinth is closer to Cole, but even she lacks the fact that he's developmentally delayed. The whole idea of a romance with Cole is disturbing and quite frankly, as Gaider has said, inappropriate.
Ok so, while I'd love to address your concern, this has been discussed numerous times in this thread and it's getting boring lol. Sorry.
Cole won't be a LI, so what's the problem? Let people like who they want -for their OWN reasons. Whether it's based on canon or headcanon.
I could argue that Merril was nothing but a child since that's how she came across to me, more so than Cole - but I respect people like her for their own reasons.
And yes, you clearly have your reasons for opposing a Cole romance, and his general character, but hey. You clearly perceived him differently to how I (and many others) perceived him.

Merrill was a ditz and childish, and was raised in an inxsular clan leaving her clueless to the shem world , sure. She wasnt developmentally delayed like Cole clearly is in the book. That's a huge difference. She could sign a legally binding contract and understands what intimacy is. Cole can't and doesn't.

Tarzan isn't a sociopath.
Not to mention he's (probably) not even human so applying human mental illnesses to him is not very appropriate. In the beginning of the book he's more akin to a starving animal than a human. He kills because he thinks he has to to stay alive/stay in the physical world. I mean, sure, if this was real life I would be -very- weary of someone claiming "oh I need to kill to stay here!" but Thedas is a world of magic and he is probably an entity ruled by something mystical that we (and him) don't understand. He may very well have been being pulled out of existence for all we know. And let's not forget that those people wanted to die, that's the only reason Cole was even drawn to them. You could almost view it as assisted suicide.
Edit: Oh and in my opinion, even though they wanted to die, Cole was still sort of selfish to want to take their lives to continue his. But it's still within reason to understand him being compelled to do it. And like stated before in this thread, other companions are far more morally questionable than Cole. (I think Isabela is at the top of my list for side eyeing with her vast amount of selfishness, with all the slaves she had killed and the whole war thing she started by stealing a holy relic)

I wouldn't count on any info about Cole anytime soon. I have a feeling the rest of the week will be information on mechanics, gameplay and other also important features. As much as I would love ALL companions revealed I have a feeling expecting anymore than what was shown is a stretch. Maybe we'll get more blurry background shots at least! xD

It's not like he's a smudge in the background. We can see the basic shape of his face, hair, body, etc, and in both trailers there seemed something "off", perhaps due to the lighting (which I stated). I am not judging, just commenting. Slow thy roll.
EDIT - do we know that the dude in the funny hat is Cole? (pic above) I suppose we only have so many suspects....

If you look at his armour there and compare it to the armour in the war room shot, it is IDENTICAL - except this armour is white.
EDIT - here. Compare the armour to this. You can see the same belts/chest straps, the same studded shoulder "cape" etc. The same tatty sleeves (which aren't present in this war room shot). The only thing that is differences are the colour and length.
Poor Cole. Why would they put you in such a hat?! I sure hope we can toggle helmets hidden/shown... o.o'
