Lol, maybe the only way people remember Cole is if he wears ridiculous clothes. The party (mostly just Varric) tell him he has to wear silly hats otherwise he'll disappear again.

It's not like he's a smudge in the background.  We can see the basic shape of his face, hair, body, etc, and in both trailers there seemed something "off", perhaps due to the lighting (which I stated).  I am not judging, just commenting.  Slow thy roll.

 

EDIT - do we know that the dude in the funny hat is Cole? (pic above)  I suppose we only have so many suspects....

It's more driving me crazy how every time we see a picture of him it's become either 'oh no he's hot' or 'oh no he looks weird', and as Gaider said before in here, how can we even judge when we don't even have a close enough image to even make out his face properly? When we do see him, it's generally shadowed to the point we can't make out enough of him properly, and the most clear image of him has been the table scene, a dark shadowy image where we can't see his eyes at all XD

We've got no blurb. No quotes. No voice. Absolutely nothing. All we have right now to judge is his appearance, which I don't think is particularly unreasonable conidering there is literally naff all else to talk about lol. I'd trade all these little snippets of his appearance just to get a little quote or info right now though *sigh*!

I noticed in the part of the "Sad Piano" trailer, where there is the close up shot of Vivienne, he is turning the corner following Varric.

He always seems to be nearby Varric, that'd be kind of cute if he latched onto him as a friend- since, well- Varric is the all around "nice guy" of the group.

That would be adorable... unless Varric has the hardest time of anyone in the party remembering Cole because of his lack of connection to the fade... unless Cole's blood magic is the sole reason people forget him and Varric has an easier time remembering him because of his dwarven resistance to magic... unless Varric's life on the surface has completely destroyed his "stone sense", making him both unable to connect to the fade and unable to resist magic like most dwarves ... unless Cole's realization at the end of Asunder has given him better control of his powers and he can keep people from forgetting him now... then yeah that would be totally adorable.

Nah I thought that too.. but upon closer inspection it looks like Solas. I see a staff, a shiny bald head and fur.

Came to this thread to see if I was the only one who got a good laugh out of the stupid hat; was not disappointed.

 

I really do hope he gets a reveal this week though. The amount Dorian was featured in yesterday's reveal (and today's too, apparently) makes it hard to believe he's not going to get any kind of official confirmation before E3 closes, and that leaves Cole and Scribbles as the only two unknowns left. I'd understand if we didn't know about more of them, but they wouldn't keep a single companion and a single support character back for a reveal later on down the road, surely?

I have a bad feeling we won't be seeing much Cole at E3. Possibly because he seems to have the least interest and love, so we'll get a few snippets here and there before release. All the big stuff will be for the favourite characters with the most interest

Honestly if they wind up not showing Cole at E3 my assumption would be that it be because he's simply not finished/ready for presentation, rather than down to a popularity thing. He's been lurking at the back of all the group shots, and while that is in-character I'm also wondering if it's a way to have him present in the group shots without having to show off the details of a character model that may not have been nailed down yet and is subject to change.

 

I can't imagine they'd hold back two random companions for later reveals by choice unless they were suprise fan favourites (say, if they had held Varric back as a nice suprise/big PR boost close to release), or unless there was another good development-progress-related reason to keep them out.

 

I'd love to be proven wrong in the next week, obviously

Could be true.. I'm just being negative and pouty Thinking about it though, I must admit, if you look at the funny kite-hat picture.. his face looks a little 2D and not as detailed as the rest. Not sure whether it's just a bad pic, bad lighting, or whether he's just not all polished up like eveyrone else.

I did notice however that there wasn't much Solas either.. and I'm pretty certain his model is complete since he's one of the first followers we ever heard about.

Edit: if there isn't, that texture for the face is definitely wtf-y. I almost wonder if it's a bug like the floating characters in the Redcliffe screenshots.

It kind of reminded me of the lower quality background npcs in DA2.. you know like in lowtown where their faces just looked completely flat and square with no detail whatsoever. Just a large, pointy sharp nose, no mouth, and dots for eyes.

Totally agree about the lack of Cole being disappointing. I'm crossing my fingers that we'll see some more of him, but I'm not getting my hopes up. The only people who seem to be interested in him are those who read Asunder. On that note, we actually do know more about him than any of the other new characters since his backstory was explained in the book. We just don't have many visuals of him. As Gaider hinted there was something "off" about Cole's appearance when he responded to fans thinking he was cute, I'm very curious as to what that meant.

I'm almost as curious about his voice as seeing him close up. Mostly because when I read, I don't assign voices to characters, even accent is hard for me. Like in Asunder, most characters probably had Orlesian accents, but I didn't really read them like that. My brain is unimaginative in that front apparently.

To be completely honest with you, when reading Asunder, Cole spoke with an English accent to me even though I was aware of the setting being in Orlais! I wouldn't mind an Orlesian accent, mind you.. as long as it's not heavy and just.. ugh. A light, subtle one, yes. I'd be happy with an English accent too. His voice though.. I was thinking about this last night. I can't see Cole being very easy to act out.. you know? I think finding a perfect VA for Cole would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. AHHHH help me! I'm rambling!

Cole is definitely mysterious and intriguing.. we know bits about him and whatnot but there's still more we don't know - that's what makes us love him so! We always want to know more! And to be honest, I like the fact he's not going to be some typical hottie.. it suits his character more to be charmingly ugly. (meant in the best possible way. Because I love Cole no matter what he looks like.)

That would be because many fans who feel positively about Cole in other ways (and I include myself in this) react very negatively to the idea of him being a romance option, feeling that the very qualities that make him an interesting character also make him entirely inappropriate for a romance option. It's not neccesarily that there's more negative feeling towards him in general - at least, as far as I can tell.
