Cole: "I'm sorry... Inquisitor? I didn't mean to cause any trouble back there, in the Keep"

Inquisitor: "holymotherof... who are you?!"

***

Cole: "Friends. We are friends now, yes?"

Inquisitor: "holymotherof... who are you!?"

***

Cole: "Is it done? I'm leaving soon. Thank you, my friend, for... journey?"

Inquisitor: "holymotherof... who are you?!"

Quite possibly. Though was Cole the boy from Orlais?

I don't really know. I assumed he was because the Templars took him to the White Spire. It's an interesting thought, though.

I think it's inferred they might have passed by his farm when traveling in Asunder (which I'm pretty sure is entirely in Orlais). I suppose the farm might have just reminded him of his farm though. I don't remember exactly how that part of the book played out so I'd have to find it to CSI: BSN further. But as a side note, the commoners/outer reaches of the Orlesian empire might have different accents, or less prominent Orlesian accents for all we know.

Edit: Found it and I'm guessing it just reminded him, but it's vague.

Cole!!!!!!! He became one of my favorite character while reading the book. My dwarf is going to watch out for him most of the time.

What if the peace conference involved the mage and seeker/templar factions, with the chantry mediating? And Cole was possessing Lambert? Maybe he intended to end the war as Lambert. And then the Breach happens.
Maybe the Inquisitor will encounter him in the Fade the first time they are dragged in?

I've also wondered if something like this could have happened, with Cole actually being there either in Lambert or just following Cole. I wonder if he counts when they say "nobody else survived". Maybe not, because of what he is.

That's why I think he'd be possessing Lambert if he was present. Lambert would die, Cole would survive, but he wouldn't be counted because nobody knew he was there in the first place.

I completely forgot about this, from Gaider's blog in response to a comic by Aimo if I remember right:

Aha found it and while I was looking I stumbled across this again. pleeeeeeeeeease make this a thing ogod

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh this is adorable. ; ;

I really hope we start hearing more about him soon... I think I might even need to invest myself in something else to keep my mind off the agonizing wait. I just can't handle it! There are still a couple other characters that need official reveal so I'm sad we probably wont see anything more official for a while. I can't wait for all the fan art. x3

Yeah, that makes sense.

Maybe he will even help us get out of the fade, if we find him then. Cole could be part of the reason only we survive the blast, maybe.

wasn't cole's mother a chasind or wilder woman or something? I can see him having followed/gone with Rhys and Evangeline to the conference summit thing from the start of the game. They're pretty key people in the mage group. that could explain him being there

Cole is the only character in all of Dragon Age I have a intense hatred for.

I'm looking forward to see if Inqusition can change that.

I never really imagined his height, I just assumed normal human adult or teenager height. What caught me off guard is I always pictured him as being lithe, or maybe even emaciated to some degree. I'm not sure if they just gave him generic human build01 or if his armor is making him look bulkier but it seems sort of out of character from what we know. But then again, we've only seen him in one image, in one position, and behind other people. It's a bit hard to tell.

Edit: the skeptic in me is saying to note *if this is him* but yeah, I can't imagine it being anyone else.

Is he human now or are you the only one that sees him?? I don't remember him being human.

I'm curious though, does Cole have the ability to possess people's bodies? He's some sort of spirit but is also called a demon(woobie demon boy; too cute!). I guess that'd be an interesting idea but I like to think he just killed Lambert outright.

He is a very interesting character but I also thought at the end we found out he was a demon or something.

Well I haven't read it but from reading the synopsis linked a couple pages back and some other stuff it seems like he's not human. Someone that knows more can feel free to correct me.

@Ghostbusters101 check out the spoiler tag under the pictures in the first post of the thread. Some of your questions can be answered or at least given what little info we know about him, like his physical appearance and if or if not he's a demon. In truth, there is very little we know for sure about him.

All I took away from that is: David Gaider has seen a fair bit of archer. Cassandra will now and forever be Lana in my head. Varric is babou.

I've read the spoilers/the wiki for Asunder, but I hadn't actually read the book yet, myself. Got it today, since Cole is definitely in.

Lambert better be dead if this "All important Mages, Chantry, and Templars" thing is true.

@Kisari I hope he's a demon too, simply for the fact of proving everything isn't black and white. We've had a good to bad spirit transformation (Justice) and I'm hoping we see the bad to good version in Cole. Whether or not he's -only- a demon/spirit/abomination though is questionable, I think the whole point of his arc in the book is to state that he's an anomaly. I've contemplated that he might be an ash wraith or something as well, since the templars supposedly destroyed what was Cole, but obviously a...form/echo/memory of Cole still exists. But then again I have a lot of different conflicting theories trying to figure the puzzle out.

Eh, he's already (presumed to be) dead.  The World of Thedas timeline states that Lord Seeker Lambert van Reeves is missing and presumed dead.

Man, the more I think about the ash wraith thing, the more it makes a whooooole lot of sense...

  • Templars dispose of corpse, probably by burning. Ashes used by spirit to form a physical body. The spirit has formed a quasi-material body for itself out of ashes (usually the ashes of burnt corpses but not necessarily)
  • Being able to touch and be touched. This allows it to interact with and affect the physical world
  • Spirit using blood from victims and storing it for later maybe? Such wraiths occasionally use other materials to form their physical bodies such as bones, mold, and even blood.
  • The ability to completely disperse like after confrontation with Lambert after Lambert interrupts Cole's blood magic invisibility with the Litany.  If wounded, it can disperse at will and reform later.

It's just...Wow. I can't even.

The desperation of Cole was interesting.  He was always look for someone to tell him who he was, to recognize him.  He understood loyalty and he understood despair, but the rest seemed a mystery to him.  Upon being declared a spirit it seems something opened inside him, a clearer will.  It would make sense to put him in the game, it be nice to have a spirit speaking on the spirit realm, and much of the DA literature seems interested in exploring what these spirits are beyond the meager titles placed on them by religion.

What little we got of Justice's perspective before he merged with Anders was fascinating, I'd love to see more through Cole. It'd be especially neat if Cole was in fact a spirit of Mercy, he'd make a perfect counter balance to the the spirit of Justice/Vengeance that as far as we know is still active somewhere in Thedas (Anders death would have only slowed him down a little bit).

Ash Wraith from the wiki:

I agree, I'm so intrigued by both demons and the fade in Thedas. I also think he is much more complex than just a plain old demon/spirit. Anomaly is a great way to put it! I think the biggest question is whether he is a memory of Cole or whether he is simply an entity that stole Cole's existence out of pity and is completely separate from him.

Ash wraith does sound plausible. But I wonder whether he is something new still. I feel like he might be a unique creature since he is so special. Ah I am so excited for it all! Ash wraith does sound so much like what he can do. And since he has blood magic like abilities he might be more demon than spirit.
