Wow! I'm finally here! After a long, long time of reading without actually writing, I have at last decided to register here.

So. I've been in love with Cole right after I had read the Asunder book. When I saw him in the trailer, I was like... a heart attack, really. Nothing could ruin my good mood that day, and I was smiling like an idiot all the way home from the work

But the thing that struck me that his hair and in general his face looks a bit different from the picture of him at Asunder.

P.S.: Please allow me to join your little Cole-fan-club, I may be a little awkward but I'm russian so I'm sorry for any mistakes in my English or eerie behaviour =)

Cole's design seems unusually uninspired for Bioware... Was he created by the same artist that developed Fenris?

 

To be honest, they both seem JRPG companions, and in Cole's case, a Dante rip-off.

 

Not talking about his background or personality, which can be amazing for all I know (haven't read Asunder yet), just commenting on his "looks".

Bioware games are particular by the fact they are original. They fact they made him look like a JRPG character is wicked 

 

Besides, I'm sure they'll make up for it with his personality/character build. Cole was quite interesting in Asunder, cant wait to see what they do next.

I suppose it's bad lighting but almost every companion in that screenshot looks... weird.

I'm not going to make many judgments about his appearance until we get a better look, personally. This shot is from a pretty far distance, obscured by other characters and objects, only in one type of lighting, position, and setting, etc. etc.

Edit: Also, his character and story are far more important than the way he looks imo.

 

And welcome Shaen! We don't seem as numerous as other characters' fans...or maybe we're just not as vocal, but we're here!

Most of the other companions were at least strongly hinted earlier, so Cole is getting a late start. I'm sure he'll pick up steam as more information comes out about him. People that didn't read the book just don't have anything to go on besides that one shot in the trailer, basically.

I don't know what Cole is, but I'm half convinced that the Inquisitor is the same sort of being, either a spirit that's forgotten he's a spirit or some form of abomination.

I agree, but we DID have his image already and it looked different. Not that I'm complaining or anything, but...

I personally think that his appearance should give the creeps, and not be associated with JRPG and all that Dante stuff...

Thank you There is not many of us indeed, but it doesn't bother me at all. I'm just so happy Cole will be in the Inquee's party. Guess Gaider will be writing him, he has hinted this before in his blog & twitter some time ago, so I'm sure he won't let us down and write him well. He mentioned that he really liked this character, and on this we agree, he's totally awesome.

 I'm sure he'll pick up steam as more information comes out about him.

 

The devs said there won't be ALL the companions highlighted, some of them will be a surprise, and my guess is that Cole will be that surprise.

I don't think there's actually a firm confirmation on that, they've just kept things vague about what information would or wouldn't be out. We have exactly enough months of Follower Fridays to introduce every character that doesn't already have a profile up on the site. Since they've already revealed images of them, I wouldn't be surprised if that's not what they do.

Maybe you're right, and if you are, I still have an uneasy feeling that Cole will be highlighted as one of the last companions, closer to October 7. Anyway, he is not particularly new (as we have plenty of info about him from the book) like Vivienne, Grey Warden or Sera, so we can all relax now and enjoy the fact that we will be able to make friends with him in the game

Am I the only one thinking he may be an Old God reincarnated? It's a long shot, but there were some hints in the storyline, which may point to the fact that he is somehow connected to them and to Flemeth as well...

He needs to kill people that see him. A line from the book, " I'm fading away. I can feel myself slipping through the cracks. I have to do this, I'm sorry." An Old God isn't going to have to kill to stay present.

Things that I hope for or can't wait to see:

• Varric's nickname for Cole.
• Cole smiling, I can't recall him smiling in the book. (not that we "saw" that anyways)
• A ball/masquerade that you can choose one or multiple companions to accompany you (a la ME3 Citadel DLC). I can't even imagine what the writers could come up with for this, especially for Cole.
• Cole enjoying quality of life things if he requires them; good flavorful food(instead of stolen templar rations), a nice bed(wherever he slept in the White Spire???), hot baths(cold flooded tunnels).
• Cole being awkward when asking random questions about mundane social things or terminology.
• Being able to hug or console Cole. (personally I'm not really a touchy-feely kind of person, but a lot of other people mention hugging him so I chalked it up for them)
• Who's the voice actor.

He doesn't kill anyone in the second half of the book, and yet he becomes visible to more people? If you are right, than he should had disappeared, but he didn't. And he returned to take revenge on Lambert at his own will.

I agree, I'm so intrigued by both demons and the fade in Thedas. I also think he is much more complex than just a plain old demon/spirit. Anomaly is a great way to put it! I think the biggest question is whether he is a memory of Cole or whether he is simply an entity that stole Cole's existence out of pity and is completely separate from him.

Ash wraith does sound plausible. But I wonder whether he is something new still. I feel like he might be a unique creature since he is so special. Ah I am so excited for it all! Ash wraith does sound so much like what he can do. And since he has blood magic like abilities he might be more demon than spirit.

2) I'm pretty sure he was smiling once or twice in the book

An ash wraith isn't a specific type of demon, just a form a spirit can take. Like a demon or a spirit can possess a corpse, person, ashes, other inanimate objects like trees, regardless of what type of spirit or how intelligent they are.

 

Edit: I think it's inferred that the ash wraiths we've encountered in the games so far are very basic, animal-like demons like rage and hunger.

Hardly. In the end, I think he separates himself from the real "Cole", the boy who has been murdered by the Templars. He acts in a more cold and self-confident manner, and refers to his previous self as "he", not "me".
