I liked Cole in Asunder but based on the little write up they did, he won't be getting along with my main Dwarf.  So I guess he'll just disappear and will be forgotten by the team.  I can't wait for the banter of party members who are struggling to remember little Cole when he decides to leave my party when my Dwarf goes on a slaughtering spree.

Not sure how I feel about option of letting the little killer loose on the world of Thedas with his ability to be forgotten.

Justice wasn't inextricably tangled up with Kristoff's memories, though. Cole's personhood is very different from Justice's, and I think it's a mistake to think the two cases are really comparable.

Justice actually states in a number of discussions that he has Kristoff's memories and they're implied to inspire a lot of his interest in the world and emotions, especially concerning Kristoff's relationship with his wife, though he's very in denial about this. The only real difference, I believe, is that he knows throughout Awakening that he's not actually Kristoff and only possesses Kristoff's memories, while Cole doesn't know for most of Asunder what he is. Even in his original survey description, Cole is described as being haunted by the original Cole's memories, not that they are his. Yes, the original Cole has inspired what Cole is now, but he's still something completely different than human and the thought patterns of spirits are shown to be very immature from what we've seen. Justice's dialog is extremely immature, he's just way on the other side of the spectrum on hostility as Cole is. The way he processes everything is at extreme face value and he's quickly prone to hostility and denial when made uncomfortable, to a point you would hardly expect from a mature adult.

Consider, for example, the hostile reaction he has to Anders asking how a spirit becomes a demon and if he has any desires. If you listen to the escalation of his voice in the game, it actually sounds as if he could easily become violent if Anders weren't to drop the subject. He later admits that he is basically afraid of how spirits become demons and we can infer that he's originally lashing out and acting in denial because he's afraid. This is a very childlike reaction, even if his communication style is outwardly more what we consider adult. From what we've seen, I think we can assume spirits have a tendency towards starting very childlike out of the fade as far as their basic reasoning skills go. I think it would be a mistake, though, to think that means they are basically children and not something entirely more alien.

Still? Didn't Gaider once say "he has the mentality of a young boy" and that any who wanted to romance him was "creepy" hinting at a definite no.

Hey, i've been lurking for awhile, but with the official reveal of Cole I thought I might join in

 

I'm so excited that's he's been announced. I just wanted to hug him in Asunder, he's so lost and alone, and I can't wait for my Quizzie to be all protective of him and treat him like he's her little brother.

 

I really liked the idea someone on here once said about Cole being a spirit of Compassion, and with this new quote I think it makes even more sense. Even when he killed those people in the White Spire, it almost seemed like he had a twisted idea of compassion because he saw that they were in pain and in his mind he was ending it for them. Since he's a spirit and he has a very warped view of the world, and since he was burdened with all of the memories of the boy Cole, it could perfectly make sense that this is how the spirit saw compassion. Then with his growth in Asunder, it seems that he begins to understand the human concept of compassion better. His quote about helping people mattering to him could be an example of that growth, and the nature of the spirit. 

 

I just can't wait until we meet him in Inquisition, I know that he'll probably get along really well with my first Quizzie, and I'm really looking forward to their relationship. She'll try to make sure that he never has to feel alone, and she'll give him a big hug X3

there is no way someone other than david will be his writer LOL.

 

the new quotes about him make me consider once again cole's true nature. the discussion has always been like

- spirit/corrupted spirit or

- demon or

- corrupted spirit which is the SAME THING as a demon or

- some other fade entity which we have not yet come across in the lore

and that's only speculation about what the Entity That Is Now "Cole" was before

- who's to say what it is now and whether it has become something new entirely by fusing with the memories of Original Cole or Original Cole's ghost or whatever else

anyway it makes me revisit it because with the quotes about helping the helpless and him leaving ruthless people make me think the Entity before was a spirit of a virtue, not a spirit of a negative aspect/a demon. a spirit that has now been corrupted a la vengeance although it would seem they can be uncorrupted? the new quotes evoke positive thoughts

if cole is with the inquisition the chances are rhys and/or evangeline may well be dead 

 

observation time: BioWare have always said they're mighty pleased if a character inspires any significant reaction in a person - they make characters that split their audience. love em or hate em. the polarized reactions to cole (parental vs creeped out) are a thunderous example of that

 

speculation time: cole's companion quest will deal with his nature/what he is becoming, we could influence what he will become, or finding rhys and/or evangeline. the tears in the veil will have an impact on cole's nature, perhaps increasing as time goes on. 

 

solas and cole may have a fuzzy friendship that starts out with solas's interest in this unique creature/amazing opportunity to study a fade creature in a unique situation. OR as a fade expert he will be wary of the dangers of the fade and will not like him at all

 

on that note,

i have a very real fear that cullen with his background and iron bull with his fear of demons will NOT be happy with this addition to our party

It's actually very common. The same happens (and it's intended to happen) with characters as ingrained in popular culture as Richard III, the Phantom of the Opera, and the Beast from the Disney movie.

I am glad to see Cole has finally be revealed. Looking at the images he is just how I imagined him to be.  

 

To me he always seemed child like (so glad he is not a romance).  Looking at those images you kind of feel a bit protective.  I am wondering how he comes to be part of the Inquisition, which makes me concerned for Rhys
