Yup. Yupp. That sounds about right what I said before about the two sides of thinking he's "Omg what a whiney Emo". Already having a massive wall of eye rolling silly.

 

I never saw him as an emo type of character either, considering he's justified in how he acts and logically he makes sense. I remember at one point one of the writers said that it's good when there's such a split of opinions because that means the character is well done enough to leave an impression about.

I know,unfortunately some people are easy to label characters the barely know,according to various stereotypes that don't even exist in their universe.

And he certainly has more than a perfect reason to be troubled,but to be honest this appears to be a humours attempt, rather than actual disdain towards the character,or I hope so at least.

Doesn't he stop killing innocent people at the end of Asunder though? I forgot where exactly it was but I remember him decided not to kill the woman who was trapped inside that grey warden keep... I don't really think he finds happiness in killing. He just does it because otherwise he will disappear into the void (fade). 

Depends what you mean by innocent. He has no qualms about killing templars on guard duty when going to break Rhys free.

I think they were mercy kills.  These were mages thrown into the deepest cells, and left to rot.  If they were "lucky," they'd become tranquil.  They were begging for death, and it was a mercy for many of them.  I'm not going to argue against those that feel otherwise; as someone said earlier, this is a divisive character, and everyone is going to have their own interpretation of what Cole is/how he feels.

 

I don't think what Cole did was right, however I do believe that he was a mercy to those mages.  A Spirit of Hope or Compassion, gone horribly wrong.  I guess the fun part is going to see how his character arc plays out in the game.  I'm really curious about what the DA team has planned for him, and for the PC.

 

 

I think you have that backwards.    Edit: As far as who's the miserable excuse over their respectful faction.  

 

I'll amend it to say that I think Lambert is an awful person, and a bad Seeker.  Eva I loved, and I think that templars like her are what is going to save the Order from itself now that the Red Templars have been formed.

 

However, I'm not starting a debate over that subject.  It's been done to death.  I think I can say for both of us that we're both wondering where a lot of the characters of Asunder are now that Cole has been 100% confirmed as a companion.

 

Lambert is an excellent representative of his profession. When the mages break free he vows to drag them all back to the circle if need be. And left the Divine only after she betrayed him. He's a hardliner but he does his duty and (imo) never abuses his power unfairly.

 

Evangeline is a good woman but a terrible templar, she literally ups and leaves with her mage bf to join the mage rebellion.

 

It's not about who you personally like more, if all templars were like Evangeline then there wouldn't be a templar order, unless that is what you were getting at?

 

Yes you're certainly right about the characters from Asunder. I personally fear for Rhys and Eva (I can't see Cole leaving Rhys's side unless something... terrible happened.)

Eh, we'll talk about this one later.  When I joined the forums fully in November, I ended up in a thread discussing the mage v templar/ Lambert v Cole v Eva business to death.  It was a very long running thread; I think it hit ~500 pages before the new information about the companions started up a couple of months ago.  Anyhow, I ended up really burned out on the subject.  We'll debate about it sometime in a relevant thread.

I have this terrible feeling that Rhys and/or Eva dies in the initial Fade Breach.  Whichever one doesn't end up dead would probably end up missing.  Plus, Eva did need that tiny note to keep reminding herself who Cole was.  If Rhys is dead and Eva loses that note, it means Cole is all alone.  I could see him wanting to make things right and help close the Veil Tears, in their honor if for no other reason.

Yeah, I agree. I'm just saying that not everyone will see it as him refraining from killing innocents, depending on what people consider "innocent." Some will see them as deserving of death just on account of them being templars. Whilst others will see it as people just doing their jobs, they weren't an immediate threat to Rhys and so they didn't deserve to die. Cole could have just knocked them out or something.

I keep looking at Cole and thinking, "I'd love to give him an Inquisitor Badass Hat."   I really think he'd look good in it, and pretty cute.

 

He'll get along with mine pretty well too.  

 

Among the companions I think that Cassandra is going to immediately distrust him; Varric will be curious; Sera would probably want to teach him jokes, or tell him to say things that he shouldn't; Vivienne treating him like a bug in a jar; Iron Bull just rolling with it after the initial "kill it, kill it with fire" reaction; Blackwall needs more info about his character released, but as a Grey Warden it might not bother him very much; Solas would be leery, but I could see him treating Cole with respect.  I'm not sure about Dorian, other than an understandable wariness.

Some points that come to mind on whether or not Cole is a spirit actually possessing the body of the original Cole;

 

- The first is that the body doesn't seem dead, like Justice in Kristoff. He sweats, he bleeds, he seems to regenerate damage done to him. Cole died at around 12 and Cole is a young adult. Everything indicates the body is still living.

 

- There's never been any indication that Cole the human still "lives" in the body, like with Justice in Anders or the faith spirit in Wynne.

 

- Supposedly an abomination (spirit/demon in living or dead mage) has full access to whatever magical potential the mage had. This is what mainly draws spirits and demons to mages over other hosts. Cole tells Rhys that he can't do any magic. He's a rogue class in game.

 

So, I'm not sure it's the case that he is possessing the body. It's possible he is just in his own form, which a spirit is able to do in The Masked Empire. It doesn't appear only shades can do this, based on the most recent information.

 

 

Another note -- Cole looks like the kid in the movie Chronicle that goes bad, to me. I've been thinking he looked like someone (not Evan Peters ) and it finally came to me. lol

I'm concerned about putting Iron Bull in a party with Cole...  I suspect the ability to interject into banters is going to come in handy.
