It probably means Cole end up shanking Scribbles or something... :wizard:

That was my first thought when I saw that image, even before someone said it was probably Cole. That is the face of someone who has been shocked completely. And a knife lodged in a kidney would certainly do that.

The little blighter is still adorable. We just have to curtail those impulses. Like, keeping a kitten from scratching the furniture! Redirection and positive reinforcement are all that's needed!

INQUISITOR: No, no no no, Cole! We don't stab friends. [TAKES COLE TO A BANDIT ENCAMPMENT] Stab here.

COLE: [BLOODY MELEE ENSUES]

VARRIC: This is terrifying. And wrong. And yet still he somehow makes me want to hug him.

BULL: Bah. Just let him work it off. It's rough not having an outlet.

INQUISITOR: D'aawww, he's got a widdle blood in hair. [PRODUCES HANKY]

VARRIC: [SHAKES HEAD SLOWLY

I'm conflicted about Cole. My first inquisitor will most probably be a mage so I guess that in term of role play, the "banish him" thing should be the responsible thing to do...if he's a demon. Still I'm curious about him and as a gamer, I don't want to miss anything so I'll probably recruit him anyway (if anything goes wrong or out-of-character, I'll console myself by thinking of the mayhem that decision has generated) .

Also, frankly if Cole hadn't reacted to the litany of Ardala in Asunder, I would have come to the conclusion that he's more likely a spirit of compassion (though maybe a changed or a corrupted one) than a typical demon.

No-one ever expects the Weekequizition!

"...and then Scribbles and Cole started stabbing each other to dead. [Inquisitor's LI] tried to stop them, but the floor was slippery with blood and he/she falled to his/her death"

Seriously, I was going to comment something serious about Cole, but what the ****...?

Spoiler

Spoiler

Ah, that one.

Spoiler

I don't think Sera "hates him" I think Sera's a relatively uneducated commoner who's only knowledge of demons and spirits is what she's gained from cultural osmosis (which really doesn't paint those things in the best of light). She doesn't understand him and is therefore afraid of him, and reacts to him in the manner that many people do when the things they fear don't go away, by ignoring him.

IB on the other hand is a Qunari, and as we've seen from Sten, sometimes being a Qunari means ignoring what others might see as undeniable facts if they don't mesh with one's world view. To Iron Bull demons and spirits aren't scared scrawny little kids, so Cole must therefore not be a demon/spirit.

Good points.

If Sera doesn't come around eventually, though, she'll probably be the first BioWare companion I actively hate, previously good first impression be damned. (Well, Vivienne, too, I suppose, but she at least seems consistent, unlike Ms. "helping the people suffering next to you is the only thing that counts".)

Ah, the joys of cognitive dissonance; isn't it lovely? (Regarding IB in particular... in fact, everything about him.)

HAHAHAHAHA

*cough* *cough*

HHAHAHAAAaaah.

Well, hello there.

Cole, though 'childish', doesn't seem like the huggy huggy type...

Well, that's been thoroughly rebutted by Fialka and Tootles already. (And it's of course been mentioned in the depths of this thread before.)

One of the running sub-themes in Asunder is how no one - not the mages, certainly not the Chantry, really understand the nature of spirits, demons, magic, or the Fade itself.  I think this is going to be explored a lot in Inquisition (at least I hope so), and I think Cole could give us some really interesting insight into that. Personally, I'm excited to meet him in the game and have him in my party. And PW's interview makes me think I'll like The Bull that much more.

I don't know whether Cole is a spirit or demon, and honestly I don't really care.  The fact that he's trying to be good says more for him than many of the not-demon characters we've met in the Dragon Age games.  And the theory that a demon could become a spirit just as the opposite is true, or that a demon could actually want to be benevolent, is an interesting one.  And it seems a common thread in the characters we've met so far is of people not fitting into the roles you'd expect - the fun-loving Qunari, the honorable Tevinter magister, the pro-circle mage, the hard-ass seeker-warrior who is questioning her world view, etc. etc.

As far as trusting him goes - I can see the parallels between Cole and Legion, where he may well betray you if he feels you're out to hurt him or those he wants to protect.  But I also think he would incredibly loyal to someone he believes is a friend.

Yep, love that part.

Wholeheartedly agreed.

I guess so. Although he doesn't really have (a) people now, does he?

I don't think Lambert's assessment should be assumed to be infallible. I don't think the effectiveness of the litany proves he's a demon or blood mage. It would be just as plausible to claim that it worked on him because he originates from the fade, or because his power of invisibility is mind effecting.

Can a demon do (or sincerely want to do) something good?

Not really. What matters is he's a creature from the fade.

How he's walking around Thedas with not much trouble is strange.

This one:

From the angle of his shoulder, you can tell Cole has his arm around like a hug. And Scribbles' face is one of surprise, as in she wasn't expecting the hug. We discussed it in the Cole and Scribbles thread a bit and those involved came to the conclusion that Scribbles may be one of the people Cole bonds to.

Looks like he's stabbing her.

The core difference between demons and their counterpart spirits seems to be selfish vs. selfless in motivation, and if a (more or less gradual) fall to the dark side for an individual (shaped by "real world" experiences) is possible, I don't see why an equal rise to the light side wouldn't be.

There is no difference between a demon and a spirit, besides the fact that spirits embody 'good' concepts and demons embody 'evil' concepts. It lies in the eyes of the beholder to judge.

my current pet theory is that scribe girl does something for the greater good and benefit of the inquisition that cole percieves to be hurting innocent people. Say in order to have enough funds to hire enough soldiers to fight through bad guys to get quizzy to a breach so they can close it in time to stop 'x' happening, but the only way to get the money in time is rob some villagers (or whatever, u get me). So he shanks her. In some choicepaths not all.

Well if a spirit can become corrupt and turn into a demon, then I'm assuming the opposite could happen

I wouldn't hold much hope in Cole/Scribbles relationship, though I doubt whatever the concept is about to be forced.

I think it is a branch, if we are super mean to Cole he goes crazy and murders/attacks a companion (not scribbles :( !!!!!) or if we encourage his good side this scene doesn't occur.

I don't know. So far this game has screwed me ober so many times that whenever something like this gets posted I ask myself "Bioware/this game wants me to hate it, right?"

I always thought that too.

Not the dirty part, of course. I'm a good girl

Scribbles' reaction doesn't scream "he's hugging me!" at all. More like "AHHHHHHHH"

How often have demons/spirits proven to be good?

Even Justice blew up Kirkwall.
