Halla mounts? Now I'm extatic. But I want a white one for my Dalish prince!

I had that in mind as well, but I think in TME Felassan mentions that the elves rode halla once. I may be mistaken though.
Anyway for stylistic purposes my Elf will simply have to break any possible traditions that forbid halla riding.

But the Dalish don't ride their hallas.
Quoting WoT here:
"The halla are a domesticated animal unique to the Dalish, originating in Arlathan and bred to large numbers once more in the Dales. The stags served as mounts for the Emerald Knights when the Dales were still home to the elves".
Now the codex entry for halla in DA:O:
"No creature is more revered by the Dalish than the halla. No other animal has a god of its own. These white stags are much larger than ordinary deer, and the Dalish halla keepers carve their antlers as they grow, making them curve into intricate designs. In ancient times, these stags bore elven knights into combat, but since the fall of the Dales, they are used less as mounts and more to pull the aravels".
So yes, they can be used as mounts. It's just that now that the Dalish live in aravels, they're more useful as draft animals.
Also, now that I reread the codex, those intricated horns are molded artificially. An untouched red halla may be very similar to the picture I posted before.

I am SO stoked for this. And the bog unicorn.
I don't even know what a bog unicorn is, just know I want one. And all the other unicorns. (I don't mind if they're paid DLC. I would cheerfully buy a downloadable unicorn pack.)
What I'm curious about - other than what a bog unicorn is - is how companions will be handled, We've only seen the Inquisitor riding so far, so do they magically vanish when you mount up and then reappear when you get off? Do they have their own mounts? If so, are they pre-assigned or can you give them any of the mounts you have? (I imagine it could work like an inventory slot.)
Much as it might entertain me to get Varric to ride a unicorn, it might make more sense if they had pre-assigned mounts. I can't imagine any of the halla we've seen being able to carry Iron Bull, and it wouldn't make much sense for Vivienne to ride a bronto just 'cause I told her to. Unless brontos are also available in this season's hot fashion colours.

So let's see... Bioware's give me my Dalish Elf PC, my
Arcane WarriorKnight Enchanter Specialization and my Halla.
Hells yes! - Look out Orlais!
It's gonna' be epic, ain't it?
When it comes to the Inquisitor, it's shaping up rather nicely in that regard so far. ![]()

I imagine the bog part cancels out the unicorn part. Bogs aren't known for being pretty.
Most bogs and swamps I know and frequently visit are really pretty.

Damn knife ears, bringin in their stinky riding goats inta Fereldan. Halla this halla that. I'll tell yee what kind of Halla mount I'd favour, a Halla head mounted on the wall. An now the Bann says we gotta make nice to them dalish freaks with the tattoos and the funny wagons and all. I don't like it, no I don't like it one bit.

If Dalish get their hallas (halla? hallae? ...?) I want a bronto for my dwarf inquisitor! Failing that I'd settle for Oghren's design of mabari war chariots. The ladies love dem chariots...

yeah and on top of that Felassan said "we used to ride the halla" or something like that in the masked empire.
wonder if we can ride a white halla as well as this red one

Hmmm, I'm a bit disappointed that this would seem to be a swamp-ish unicorn, rather than the more English variety of bog. I was so looking forward to riding my porcelain throne unicorn.

When I read the "red hart halla" in the pre-order thread I immediately thought of this:
With a Dalish archer it would be cool.
Oh hell yeah. I migh have to make a dalish just to name them Ashitaka.
Wait, can we name our mounts?

So I flipped out when I saw it confirmed that HALLA WILL BE IN THE GAME. I don't know if it's available for all versions of the game, but you get a Red Halla mount when you preorder the deluxe edition...too bad I can't preorder it until they make it available for the PS3.
I thought it was pretty cool, especially with the inclusion of the elven Inquisitor as one of the backgrounds. Halla hold a sacred place for the Dalish, and even have their own god among the Creators. Felassan remarked on the halla, "We rode the halla. They leapt with such grace and beauty as to make your horses look like Ferelden dogs by comparison. They were smarter, too. Which often made them willful." I wonder what the Red Hart Halla looks like; I certainly hope that the elven protagonist can remark on the Red Hart Halla.

But doesn't the person in Origins who care for the Halla say they don't ride them?

Centuries ago, elven knights rode them. Since the fall of the Dales, the halla guide and pull the aravels. An elven Inquisitor riding one (like his ancestors did when the People had their own homeland) is something that I think I'll enjoy. ![]()

Just seems weird that an Inquisitor raised Dalish thus raised that we do not ride Halla will immediately use them as a mount.

It's not prohibited (unlike using magic that involves spirits), so I don't see why it would be an issue for an elven Inquisitor to ride one. They're sacred animals to the People, who even believe a halla will lead an elf into the afterlife upon death. If the Red Hart Halla is special, it may explain why it's not pulling one of the aravels, but instead serving as a mount.

Yes, that's a nice addition. I wonder if we will have different mounts in the game, and not just horses (horse variety would be welcome too).
However, I don't think there will be any remark about the red hart halla. It's a bonus item, like the dog in DA2. At most, I expect a small codex entry about the strangeness of having a red halla. Now I wonder if there will be normal white halla as mounts.

Exactly. Maybe it's some special halla for riders? Not to talk about the Inquisitor not having aravels, so the main use doesn't make much sense.
There's nothing in lore that says hallas can't be mounted. Also, maybe the Inquisitor is like this
