Hey BSN,
NOTE: SPOILERS FOR "THE MASKED EMPIRE"
as I am currently reading "The Masked Empire" (which is quite a good read - though I until now I like the other books better (more mystery, magic, fights etc. and less groveling, strange manners, ceremonial protocol, intrigue, nobels behaving in ways that would make me kill them on the spot (!) and such things)), I have a question about the Masks:
1. Do we need to wear them? (is the Inquisitor considered to be part of "the game"? do people look down upon us, if we don't wear them (or do we get make-up instead, like lower class citizens?)? - or do we get a "free pass" on this (much like the chantry does, as Leliana showcases)?)
2. Can we decide when and when not to wear them (like ripping it off as provocation (Gaspard de Chalons comes to mind) and or ripping someone elses mask away from them or doing it to blend into the crowd (like Briala Celen's servant does) or to meet with people who absolutely hate Orlais or their nobility (who would be offended if you wore a mask) etc.?)
3. Can we influence the design - if we do have to wear a mask? (I for example would hate to have to look like a peacock or something along those lines or having a lot of pearls that rattle on it (like that one noble in the book)...I would prefer something non-girly, something elegant with say runes on it instead of gemstones...would fit a mage better, too)
4. Can we PLEASE make our companions not wear them, if we don't (complaining about Vivienne here, as she looks kind of ridiculous, at least wearing that outfit to a fight - for a ballroom it might work...but otherwise it is just stupid IMHO and for someone who plays politics (and maybe even "the game"), it is quite illogical to dress up like some doll for a fight)
5. Can we poke fun at Orlesian culture (their masks, fashion and the like)? - Because I find it quite funny and I like to play practical characters that would rather kill something then wear stupid impractical clothing (just like in RL - I hate clothes that have no real use to them or can be worn only for a singular purpose - marriage fashion for example...quite useless IMO)
so, floor is yours (an answer from one of the DEVS would of course be very nice)
greetings LAX
