I think its unrealistic at least fro the world of dragon Age to have a dragon type mount, because its been established that they eat people and if there was a place that did have them as mounts people would have heard about it. but that's just my opinion.

Some kind of magic would be nice as an option, like how haste worked in DA:O. It made you move faster. Honestly RPGs are awful for mages. Hell i'm still going to be playing as one but it is so f*cking frustrating when you try to play as a mage and EVERY enemy spellcaster can do special things like fly, teleport, levitate, cast unique spells you'll never get. It makes you feel insignificant, like your mage just isn't good enough and that just makes me feel like my character is not powerful. *venting complete*

 

Other than that, i'm quite happy with the Halla and this...Bog Unicorn thing.

I'm glad that Hallas are an option. I would definitely use one if I had a elf character.

My questions is if companions will get their own mounts (which I would love) or will they just disappear while you use the mount or what?

they do not in fact eat all people (!) - look at DA:O:

 

The (High-)Dragon tollerated the cultists and even had them around her young! - They do go on rampages occasionally (before retreating to breed) but they normally only eat strangers in their hideouts (!)

 

=> Dragons are intelligent enough to make a distinction between dangerous people (humans and probably elfs and dwarfs, too) and people that will not harm it!

 

as for the mounts we get:

 

they are a tad boring (there is nothing exciting or new, like say one of those dwarfen cave-spiders)!

ps: nothing is over the top IMO as long as your mount is not the really big type (like bigger then a normal house/too large to fit into a stable)

pps: yeah - 10000 spells you will never learn but NPCs toss at you a lot is something I hate, too!

Horses are wonderful creatures; so in tune with their rider, they can sense the slightest tension or hesitation. When I relax my horse relaxes. Grooming them is peaceful and I often just zone out with the horse while doing so. I love the smell of horse and leather. Ahhh  Granted, some horses are mean assholes, just like humans, and some are more flighty than others. But, a seasoned, well trained, good natured horse is a joy to be around.

 

As for horse shoes, many people are starting to keep their horses barefoot. Of course, a horse that has been in shoes will have to learn to adjust as their hooves will be tender until they toughen up.  But, depending on the terrain that is being ridden, the horse can be a bit ouchy without shoes even after their hooves toughen. Many horses in the wild die early because of numerous foot problems that shoes can help resolve. Horses evolved in much drier climates than the ones most live in today. Moistness and horse hooves don't go together well and problems develop. Regular cleaning, treatment of thrush and abcesses, and trimming helps prevent most problems. But, when problems go too far, shoes can often help hold the hoof together when it,for example, splits. In the wild, a horse would likely die with severe problems as they would be lame.  /end equine love gush

 

With all that being said, in video games I usually hate riding horses. Getting on and off to talk to people, explore and collect items is a pain. Combat is usually clunky and not fun for me on video game horses. I hope DAI manages to make them fun as I love the idea, but I'm not holding my breath.

Griffins could be back in Inquisition. Since the companions are too linked to the story for having one of them as dlc, the only way they can make something exclusive and appealing is to add a special mount or a Dog like companion (which does not speak, so has a marginal role in the story). There could be lot of quests related to this bonus mount. Griffins can actually be a thing.

Anyway, unicorns? Really? I hope they are cooler than horses with a horn. Way cooler.

I'm absolutely fine with having horses as the only mount. I'd just like to have the option to pick the color/pattern of the horse.

have we seen actual pictures of the mounts? also theres going to be more than those three mentioned, the special edition has an armored horse, theres also the lizard, a pig and something else that I've forgotton...
