Speaking as a straight man, I think we can bite the bullet on this one.
Didn't we already bite the bullet on DA:2?

I'm surprised they actually did this.
I hope they haven't conformed to too many stereotypes when they decided who the gay and bisexual LI's were.
Yeah, that's why I like that option, too. I mean, I'm happy to see an acknowledgement that bi people like me exist, but it kinda sucks that we've never had an exclusively gay LI in Dragon Age.
I definitely agree there needs to be a Traynor or Cortez in the mix. I really enjoyed them in ME3 and prefered my mshep with Cortez and I loved my femShep with Traynor.
Actually by making content exclusive, Bioware is once again encouraging replayability. It only sucks for the OCD crowd who literally play the same game each time making the same choices in terms of story-choices, what class they pick and what gender they play as.
I'm counting 9 playthroughs in DAII to experience all the romances available. I only count 6 playthroughs in DAO, but maybe I'm missing something?

The route BG2 took was awesome, but I think it could only be stomached now if you had a big squad (like ME2 sized).
I just wish we could have gotten more clarity on what "set sexualities" actually means since now some people are saying they hope it's just going back to the hetero/bi split of DA:O. It's maybe not that bad if it's the 2/2/2 split, at least it's fair, if maybe individually disappointing. Right now we don't even know if it's going to be a remotely fair distribution.
I'm going to go ahead and say I believe there will be at least 2 options for LGB characters, but I will be WAY more disappointed by another bi/straight division than I would be an even bi/straight/gay/lesbian division. If it is bi/staight, I hope it's at least the companions that are bi and the NPCs that are straight.
Why can't I like this post more than once?!I used to be very much against the whole "playersexual" thing. I was of the opinion that it implied that sexual orientation is not an important enough part of one's character to be fixed, but honestly... these days it seems like the preferable option to me.
Basically, in my opinion, the "playersexuality" mechanic was, in theory, somewhat offensive. In practice, though, I found it implemented quite elegantly and in a way that suited each character quite well.
Didn't we already bite the bullet on DA:2?
No? You guys got two romance options just like gay men/straight women/gay women. Bisexual people got more options but that'd be pretty much true unless you made a romance that would object if you showed any sign of liking a gender outside of their owns.
Didn't we already bite the bullet on DA:2?
No, you could romance everyone either way. No one bite the bullet. ME was full of bite to non-straight romances, so was DA:O.
So as long as you get what you want by how you play, who cares what others want by how they play, eh
This alone isn't gonna stop you from playing ,so why cry over spilled milk (as most would say).
This is great news!

I don't see romances being the thing that increases replayability. I see the major story decisions as the thing that is going to motivate someone to go through the whole game and try out something different.
And on the flip side; Bioware makes a game set in the real world with humans as the only playable race; would anyone be in favor of them limiting romances based on ethnicity because some people aren't into interracial relationships? Is "it encourages replayability!" a valid argument, then?

IMO I'd even hope that the gay romances aren't NPCs this time. I don't think Steve or Samantha are as fleshed out as they could've been if they'd been party members...
How dare you.
I think he's very handsome. That's why I want to give him to my dear straight female gamers since I love you very dearly.

no...no thank you...you can keep him....lol ![]()
My point was a great deal of those games were for children. Young children.
Games for young children are just as valid as your run-of-the-mill AAA action games. In fact, many indie games are leading the forefront involving female protagonists. I can name quite a lot that have been announced recently.
And, gee, maybe some female players may want to be princesses or Pokemon trainers rather than a nameless female warrior covered in blood.
I think an advantage of having sexualities is that it also allows us to be more representative of those personalities outside of exclusive romance content.
I understand this will be very disappointing for those that had their heart set on romancing specific people, and that this might not be possible, so I realize that it doesn't come without costs.
Gay/lesbian quadmates, I approve. If this means a gay character that isn't a non-squadmate that they slapped together with 5 minutes using the character creator, I'm all for it.
For full rage I would wait till we know at least who is who but you can bet that the npcs are going to be bi. I just do not see it any other way to be at least balanced. Worst case scenario the npcs are gay, best care scenario they are straight.
I can guarantee Cullen (who is an NPC) will not be gay. His legion of fangirls would go nutso.
It's a video game. Where we use magic. Fight demons. Kill dragons. Etc etc etc.
But who we bang has to be "realistic".
Wut.

Because I feel for other players. And getting robbed of people you've been looking forward to is bad news, no matter how you slice it.

Pretty much: I'm disappointed that there will be a character that I won't be able to romance as the character I like. At the same time I'm happy that this seems to imply that DA:I will have a gay companion. Heck, our favorite character could end up not being a romance option at all!
I'm just fairly confident that this will be handled well and I'll end up being happy with the way romance is written in the game. And if I'm not, then I'll make a post about it then, but I don't see a reason to talk about how I expect to be disappointed.
Interesting move by Bioware. I'm not going to judge until I find out a bit more about the remaining LI (and for that matter, the characters themselves, as we really only know a little bit about 3/9 companions). Right now, I'm most looking forward to hearing about Sera.
How dare you.

Yeah when you say romance everyone you mean two of them, the option was there sure, but the will was not
Making everyone playersexual isn't really an answer
