Bioware - "Characters will have one sexual orientation"

I am sort of worrying that the whole "characters will have one sexual orientation" is really code for "all straight characters except for 2 lesbians and a gay guy, lol deal with it, Shepard Inquisitor isn't gay (only femshep inquisitor is gay, and if she's not gay she can only **** 1 guy, and the rest will cheat on her or die)." And if that's the case, I will be very disappointed.

But maybe that's just my being pessimistic. I find "realism" gets in the way of games because "real" life isn't fair in regards to sexual orientation, race, gender and etc. So I hope we're not going to be regressing back to that place based on the po' straight folk that complained about the whole "playersexual" myth.

What advice? I never said I stop talking. You're the one who said that, and now you can't stop talking to me. lol Unlike you, I can actually stop. If I said the word "a", you would still make a reply. As for me, I'll be the adult here and stop talking.

You do that...

Oh and you stated that I was backtracking .That's why I replied.

My only concern is that the straight romances will outnumber or will get more content than the non-straight ones.  Again.

I'm cool with whatever.

But if I can't romance Cassandra as a lady inquisitor, tables will be flipped, heads will roll, etc etc.

This makes me very, very sad. :( Especially if one of the straight romances for FemInquisitor is an NPC romance (I assume Cullen), then that will literally leave me with 1 companion romance possibility to run around Thedas with. At least in DA2 and DAO, I had 2 male COMPANION romances to choose from.

I hate the way ME3 did the romances, not to mention the almost complete lack of options for FemShep players, and I'm sad the DA franchise has taken yet another page from ME games by (presumably) adding NPC romances, as well as set sexualtities. It may not be realistic, but I really think playersexual is best, as it doesn't lock you out of content based solely on what gender of PC you choose to play as. This news is so not awesome.

GEE, GREAT. Because when I romance someone the first thing I want to hear about is them going on and on about their past spouses and crushes?? :P

Anyway I don't think this makes sense... Just because a man, for instance, used to be married to a woman, doesn't mean he's straight, and doesn't mean that talking about her fleshes him out as a character.

Why limit it to potential LIs?

And I think it does flesh the person out as a character.  Was he happy?  If not, what did he do about it, if anything?  Why did he agree to the marriage?  Did he care about his wife at all, or what this a marriage of convenience?  Were there any children?

This is the backstory of the character, and that tells us what kind of person he is.

Blood, Diamond, could you take your bickering to PM?  You guys are fighting about not fighting now.   <_<

I have already put her on Ignore, so it doesn't matter anymore.

Love life and habits always influence a personality, since it is a very personal thing. What kind of people you prefer, were you ever heartbroken, rejected, tossed away...

Sure, that stuff influences a personality. But the guy said that making characters a set sexuality will flesh them out more.

That implies, to me, that a character has to not only talk about his ex wife but mention somewhere in the conversation that he is straight, always was straight, always will be straight.

People can talk about their backstories all they want, but it's the "set sexuality" thing that supposedly adds to a character is what boggles my mind.

As I said before, though time will tell, I doubt that will be the case.  If they couldn't provide a decent range, they'd have stuck with playersexuality.

If a gay character does this, there will be complaints about homosexuality being "thrown in people's faces" and/or being gay was the only thing that defined him as a character.

I just replied to the other person saying a similar thing. I guess my other post wasn't too coherent.

I get that talking about your past fleshes you out (though I don't like hearing about former lovers - that's more my issue). How does having a SET sexuality flesh you out?

I was very disappointed by this news and I noticed someone said (many pages ago) that they were worried that the gay characters and the lesbian character would be obviously gay or lesbian. I'm assuming they ment fabulous or butch depending! The thing is I trust bioware and the a Dragon age team not to do this to us gay and lesbian fans. I think that they are very aware of the concerns we have about being unfairly represented and also have a history of handling the subject with respect. Have faith people! We all like these games, and while I wish it were player sexual I trust the writers to do a good job with each of the romances so I'm going to reserve my judgement about how bad I feel about it till it comes out! :)

No one has answered this yes. Are straight girls actually okay with their straight LI be an NPC who has less overall contents and can't be taken on quests? The random kissing and random talks on the road are back now, so I feel like an NPC would miss out on a lot. We also can't ask for their opinions or how they react to different situations.

This is what confuses me about the "fleshing out the companions" stance.  Those in the LGBTQ community can still have kids, relationships with the opposite gender (either before they came out or as a bi/pansexual person)  and go into marriages for varying reasons.  We can still have all of those discussions and do so with others in and out of our community.  So why do they need to have this careful balance again and not bisexuality, other than Realism™?

Same. Mooning over exes is pretty much sex repellent. I still feel like my Shep was creeping on Steve something fierce.

Also one thing I don't like in exclusive romances is for some baffling reason the male LI feels the need to remind my femPC that she's a woman constantly as though she would've forgotten that fact. I know it's a weird peeve to have but by god man I'm female we know this the world knows this. STOP BRINGING IT UP LIKE I'D FORGOTTEN FOR SOME REASON. I wanted to throw Alistair into a wall the third time he did it. But like I said weird pet peeve.

Ah well please please let it be so only the NPCs are set and the companions care bi. I really don't want another Alistair/Morrigan scenario =/

As long as they don't go down the "stereotypical" route and make the gay characters the most "feminine" ones, and the more masculine characters straight, in terms of male romances.

Well, it provides which pronouns to use when the topic of old flames or loveless marriages comes up.   ;)

It also removes the need to hide certain details, such as Anders' relationship with Karl.

I wouldn't be. I'd rather have a playersexual companion with lots of content with some word switching to accommodate both genders than limited.

But there's plenty of female players (and players in general honestly) who will take lower content as long as they can have the LI to themselves. I personally don't get it because what do I care what someone else does in their game and lower content sucks but there it is.

People have been going on the website where it shows class specializations, hovering over the "coming soon", saving the picture, and it tells them the other classes (sorry if I didn't explain it good :3) The other mage specializations are Rift Mage and Necromancer. It makes sense though to remove blood mage, since they changed the healing system.

Chances are necromancer will be the one involving Blood Magic.

I'm not alone when I say many players saw no need for him to hide it from a Female Hawke in the first place.

Yeah I wonder how that's gonna make them "fleshed out" more? Are they actually going to come with backstories on how their sexualities have shaped their lives?

Hmm yeah sorry Natashina, guess you and your friends aren't REALISTIC! :P

It's hard to answer that question without involving stereotypes, both positive and negative.  Regardless, let's take a look at Vivienne as an example.  Mind you, the following is speculation based on what we know so far.  She seems to be attracted to power and status, which is why she values fashion as it is an expression of both in Orlais.  If that is truly what she values and cherishes, then it would make sense for her to be bisexual.  She doesn't care about sex or gender because power is what she looks for in partner.

If I knew more about the other companions, then I might be able to further elaborate, but sadly I do not.

I have absolutely no evidence to back this up, but I think there may be an equal number of straight, gay, and bi LIs.

Well, I'm a straight female and I am absolutely NOT OKAY with 1 of my 2 choices being an NPC who cannot accompany my Inquisitor. If true, I think that will be absolutely awful, and the biggest disappointment I have ever had to face in a DA game. :crying: It will also feel like what happened to FemShep in ME3 where she was totally shafted as far as romances went. Not fair at all.
