They are so close, so very close to having the romance system, dare I say it, handled well with this news. We don't have false representation anymore hiding under the guise of playersexual, now we have the opportunity to have companions who are truly able to voice and hold opinions and stances unaffected by the players own biases. I just hope they don't end up botching up the job, but here's fingers crossed they can make some good character writing and moments for the game, and give the characters a more unique feeling to them untainted by player meddling.
Bioware - "Characters will have one sexual orientation"

Fair point. I'll admit, fatigue got the better of me and I simply didn't catch on to that idea. However, I have not insulted, personally attacked, or been demeaning to anyone in any of my posts in this thread so far. Implying that I don't get out enough is just flat-out rude and I don't appreciate it. I'm all for a good debate and a civil discussion, but only if it stays civil.
My apologies for coming off as rude, as it wasn't my intention to offend. However, I will say that I did intend to be rather blunt in suggesting that perhaps you should broaden your horizons.
Again, if that offends you, I apologize.

Sooo, if 2/2/2 is actually happening and the 6 includes 2 NPC romances then that'd mean that straight women only have 1 companion romance option (Cullen being straight or bi and one male companion being straight or bi). This...really sucks. I kinda hate NPC romances.
Yeah me too.
Likely going to get stuck with one though.

So which sex gets Cullen?
I really hope both. I'll romance him with a femquisitor if not, but I hope both.

Well, this is unexpected news. Personally I'd hoped for the player sexual approach in DAI. I never felt uncomfortable around the companions in DA2, nor did I feel that they lacked depth because of their fluid sexualities. Personally, I romanced only the opposite gender from my character but I really liked the fact that everyone had the opportunity to experience the romance of their preference.
I agree totally. The characters weren't defined by their sexual preferences (bi) in DA2 at all. Only Isabela, to a certain extent, because she's constantly going on about sex. But the others, you could romance or not romance and never know the difference.

They lose that spark companion romances have. Like..my characters not likely to back out of his/her quick but ruthless decision in the field because of the thought of his/her LI back at camp being displeased with it where's a companion romance can interject and my PC will most likely change his/her mind because of it.

Out of curiosity, can you give us any basic numbers? 2/2/2? 1/1/1? 2/1/6?
Sadly nope! TBH the only reason why I'm engaging in this thread is because Cameron's interview makes some things more confirmed, but otherwise I tend to let those with bigger responsibilities than I decide when/if to share stuff since I'm not privy to any sort of big picture.
That and I believe in the game and want people to enjoy it as much as possible.

Nice to know that we're back to ME3-style shafting straight female players.
Except this time we don't even have Garrus to take the edge off.
In fact, we have even less choice than ME3 because at least we had Garrus AND Kaidan as companion LIs.

This is totally a matter of perspective. Maybe 4 of your 10 tightest friends aren't LGB but for lots of people that is exactly how their life is(Mine, for example). Or they know MORE THEN 4 LGB individuals. And also, why does more realism have to mean more straight people. Its just erasure, legitimately that is all it is, b/c Mass Effect 2 the straight parade isn't called unrealistic for showing no same-sex people, and the world of Mass Effect and Thedas aren't nearly as heavily criticized for not having ambient gay characters/quest givers/NPC's.
Maybe you're in favor of all that, fine, I don't want to speak for you, BUT I never see threads like that, and certainly not from the same group of people who claim realism as a shield; a shield which is often used to protect ignorant and hurtful beliefs.
Look, if I came across as ignorant or bigoted, then I apologize because that is not who I am at all. I am not criticizing anyone's sexual orientation either. Up until recently, I worked as a backstage technician for a theatre in Los Angeles. Plenty of my friends are LGB and I consider myself a supporter of gay marriage. My birthday is National Coming Out Day (October 11th) for god's sake!
Admittedly, I was a bit confused as to what people were getting at. If most of the romanceable options were bisexual, I'd be okay with that. However, some people can be just homosexual or heterosexual. Not every character has to swing both ways. I know it's about being able to romance who you want and having a larger amount of player choice, but what is wrong with a companion simply being straight or gay by itself?

Yeah, it's the little things.
Also, companions have banter with other companions and I think that's huge in developing a character and their relationship with other characters/the PC.
Looking at DA2, I really liked the banter/relationship with Isabela/Aveline and think it definitely enhanced each of their characterizations.

We don't know that for sure. We know two facts:
1. Cullen and Cassandra are romanceable.
2. There are set sexualities.
We don't know for sure how many people are romanceable, which people (aside from Cullen/Cassandra) are romanceable, and what sexualities are represented and in what number.
Unless I missed a post which confirmed the release of said information. In that case, I'd stand corrected.

Don't say it don't say it don't say it D:
I got away with it in ME because I didn't play FemShep but FemQunari is gonna be my first playthrough.
(especially if Natasha Little voices fem Inq I'll be all over that like white on rice).
Ugh. Please please let Cassandra be bi. D: That's my backup plan ;_;
