I'm disappointed in you, BioWare. You've let me down in the biggest way you could have. I've defended you a lot in the past, or just overlooked your bad decisions, because you've still managed to put out some good stuff, but I don't think I can do it anymore. I just can't defend this. Hopefully you'll come to your senses and change your mind before release, but I doubt it.

I don't think there's anything more I can say about that. You've just utterly crushed me and the hopes I had for this game.

Just to be clear, since I see this come up a lot in a variety of places.  I'm not under any sort of ban in terms of what I can and cannot say here... I am simply trusted to not overstep my bounds.  Which means I tend to not speak definitively on very much until "higher ups" tend to speak on things.  I don't know everything, but I know a lot about a lot of stuff that I go "That hasn't been discussed yet, so I won't bring it up."

As stated, the reason why I engaged in this thread is because Cameron is quoted as talking about it (and I wanted to mitigate the outright trolling and derailment posts) so I have less reticence to chime in about it.

Fair enough, though I think the difference between an official "ban" and a general understanding that you shouldn't reveal information "they" haven't deemed to be revealed yet may be splitting hairs. Still, I take your point.

Well hang on, hang on. The game will probably still be amazing, and the companions and their romances will probably be great too. Yeah I don't agree with or like this decision AT ALL, but I am still optimistic that there'll be plenty (PLENTLYYYY) for me to be happy about in the game. :) Keep your chin up!

Thank you op.

I am very happy with the news and also much more happy to play DAI and also pre-order the game.
I can finally play DAI without any restrictions on myself.

I will now read the rest of the thread and make more comments.

To be honest I've been thinking for a while that the lineup might be;

Cassandra - Straight

Sera - Lesbian

Scribe Girl - Bisexual

Solas - Straight

DHMG - Gay

Cullen - Bisexual

This is the way they would do it most fairly (but companions could be switched out still, of course). I wish they'd have picked 3 companion LIs, also. I think this is the lineup we'll get, though. I'm not sure if these will be the final sexualities, but it's my guess. More sure on the NPCs than the comapnions, since that's what locks up the "fairness" ratio.

We're laboring on Cassandra/Solas being "main" romances, but it's possible they also may have balanced things out more. I would have rather they avoided obvious "main" romances, anyway.

I'd switch Cullen and Solas as I would think they might try to avoid the backlash that happened with Anders by only making the new characters bisexual. Then again, I suppose people will complain no matter what Cullen's orientation is.

Still, if you're right, people are going to use his not crushing on males in the circle and then being bisexual in DA: I as proof that Bioware is just "catering to the gays" or whatever nonsense it is they believe. I kinda hope he is so I can enjoy the bitter tears of homophobes clinging to claims of continuity.

It better not turn out like ME3........

In what way do you mean? The ending or something different?

I think there's probably going to be more anger from straight women, then, only having an NPC and companion romance, while gay/bi guys would get 2 companions romances and no NPC, though. If you switch Cullen with Solas, it throws off the equal ratio of NPC/companion romances. The only way for it to be equally distributed is if there are two bisexual NPC LIs.

Yeah, I'll still play it, and probably enjoy it, but right now I'm feeling completely deflated. I just had my heart set on certain things.

Though I guess the fact that I will still be playing it is the real issue. That's why devs can keep making choices like this; because people will buy the game anyway. It's like SW:TOR. That didn't have gay romances, and that was a huge issue for a lot of people, but BioWare had no incentive to add them to the game because all those people who wanted them bought the game anyway without them.

Posts calling out that someone is upset over a "minor" part of the game are being removed.  Evidently if someone feels strongly about it, they don't feel it's as minor as you do, so just leave it at that.

Or just get rid of NPCs once and for all. Horrible idea, imo. If I wanted a LI to "come home to" I'd just leave them at the camp.

The distributions of LI's. With Jacob leaving Shepard and Thane dying, Fem-shep ended up with less romances than male shep.

So I can understand your perspective and the reason for the SWTOR analogy, are you feeling deflated because you feel this will negatively affect some sort of representation in the game?

At least that way we all get shafted equally, eh?  ;)

*sigh* I'm holding out a teeny tiny hope that there are six companion LIs (Solas/Dorian/Varric? and Cass/Viv/Sera), who'd be bi/gay/straight. And then the NPC romances are just extra. Or hey, maybe it's just Cullen.

While Bioware's track record is flawed, I'm given to understand that it was Lucasfilms that put the kibosh on same sex romances in Kotor, correct?

I did not buy The Old Republic until same-gender romances were available.

At least that way we all get shafted equally, eh?  ;)

I want to call myself a mature adult, but I snicker whenever I hear about straight women or gay men 'getting shafted' in the romance department.

It's almost as good as people complaining about Anders shoving his homosexuality down their throat.

I think every problem would be solved if every and all romances were for Garrus.

Juhani was gay, though. Or at least bi iirc.

I'm still in favor of the NPC romances, but I think they work better on the "all LI's are bi" model.

This forum can collectively be quite obtuse.

A new trailer comes out along with gobs of information in associated interviews and THIS is the topic du jour?

I just don't get the sexual hangups around here.

Yeah but I had six to choose from in SWTOR and I like 1. (FemWarrior) I tolerate 2 (FemSmug *mostly cause she doesn't suck as hard as dude smug* and Fem Inq (who...I really dislike in comparions to the male voice which is far superior and can actually nail the snarky lines where she just flails). The rest are either meh (Merc) or I utterly despise (Fem Agent), Fem Trooper.

Picky I am.

And it's not gonna help that the only reason I even managed to trudge through most of my female non SW games is because of SWTOR being a MMO and not having to hear her voice most of the time when I lvl'd thanks to liberal usesage of spacebar. (Other than death screams in PVP XD)

This is why every death in everything needs to be the Wilhelm Scream. Can never go wrong with that.

I didn't buy SW:TOR at all. And I didn't even consider buying any Mass Effect game until 3. And then I only finally made up my mind after they released the trilogy bundle.

Then count yourself lucky that it isn't something that bothers you.
