From article:
Thoughts? Personally, I cool with this. It gives me more incentive to play different characters and classes. I will never understand why some people refuse to play anything other that their gender choice. You AREN'T the Inqusitior, you're just playing as him/her.

Now, I haven't gone through all 60 pages of this thread, so pardon me if I'm repeating someone else's thoughts here, but...
Somebody said he thought Mr. Lee stuttered on the word "realistic" as if it weren't his first word choice. I thought that was the case, not because it was a misstep on his part, but because, earlier in the same interview, he had used the word realism and added that he was talking about a world where you could throw fire from your hands. It's an attempt to qualify/clarify, I think. Like, "Okay, yes, fireballs and dragons are not realistic, but they're an essential part of Thedas and the Dragon Age, so accept them, and then talk about realism, given those things." My interpretation, at any rate; not trying to put words in the good Mr. Lee's mouth.
I'm so happy about this! And I definitely plan on doing multiple runs of varying race, sex, and sexuality
woo hoo!

While I don't remember specifically, I'm pretty confident that someone whined about it.

It's a game. A game in which I am the main character. A game for which I pay a lot of money. Obviously I want to actually have fun playing it. And if that's what it takes, then so be it.
I believe consumers have every right to be self-entitled.
+1.

Cassandra could really be any sexuality as we know very little about her in that way. I have a feeling that she is going to be available to men, given the little nod that Varric gives about her sounding like she has a crush on Male Hawke.
Varric saying that line is not even a strong evidence whatsoever, not to mention Cass was doing this 'dreamy' face to ladyHawke as well as saying it was romantic.
Varric reminds me of those dudes irl who accused me of having crushes at dudes because i found some of them handsome. ![]()
I really do hope Cass ends up bi because that would be the first time Bioware ever gave a decent main romance to ladies as well.

I think it won't be Solas, I think Solas and Viv will be unromanceable. I'm starting to think it'll be Cole, who will be our woobie bi/gay li this go around. I'm not too thrilled by that prospect either lmao.
Mr. Gaider has said that Cole won't be an LI, he's literally a man child, he may look adult but he has the emotional development of a 12 year old.

I have nothing against "homos", and I never will. I said earlier that I`d like everyone to get an equal amount of romance options available to them. In DA:I we get homosexual followers, straight followers, and bisexual followers. In DA2 we only had bisexual ones. It is a step up, for everyone.

Good news, everyone! (The real kind, not the Professor Farnsworth kind.) From the twitter thread:
Can you elaborate on 1 sexual orientation? Did Lee mean there will be varied orientations like gay/bi/hetero?@Mike_Laidlaw@BioMarkDarrah
@TheEdibleDragon @Mike_Laidlaw there are gay characters, bi characters, and hetro characters
... which is what I thought, but I'm happy to have it confirmed.

From reading this thread, I'd say a fair few people whined about it, some even refusing to buy it in protest.

Drakensang 1-2
Neverwinter Nights 1-2
Ultima 1-7. U7 (I think) was the first game to let the player play as a gay character, actually.
Dragon`s Dogma
5 Elder Scrolls games.
Add VTM Bloodlines, Deus Ex 2, Divinity and Ego Draconis that I forgot, and they're still few compared to games with male protagonists (even considering Faith, Lara Croft, Lilith and Maya from Borderlands etc). I'm not screaming sexism here, I'm simply stating a fact. Most gamers are still guys and prefer to play as guys, it makes sense.
Now, I have no problem playing as a man if the character is well written, it doesn't effect my enjoyment of the game or anything. I loved GTA, Alpha Protocol, Uncharted, Deus Ex HR etc. If I can't customize my character, I don't care if they're male or female. But if I get the chance to customize them, I'd rather play as a woman. It doesn't help that I like urban settings and only play on PC.

1. You are not the main character. The main character is character you play as, not you.
2. You hardly pay enough money to be entitled to anything, least of all telling someone else how to make their product.
God forbid someone makes a story that they want to tell. It's all about the romance options in the end. Specifically, what I think these romance options should look, think, and act like, because this is BioWare's story for me. I'm entitled to make the characters I want.

The difference being that almost all games that offer romantic options offer straight ones while ignoring gay ones. The few games that do include gay options are limited, so from a vast sea of potential virtual love-making, you don't lose much by not being able to romance Samantha Traynor. Meanwhile, a dead Kaidan would mean that only Steve Cortez is a gay male option in one series from the one company that so liberally includes gay PCs in their RPGs.
So while he doesn't have to condescend about it, he's not wrong about his irritation. Frankly, I'm irritated that you equate the two as well.
Games have a long way to go before they achieve actual equality. Give me a game like Witcher where the PC is only gay and let's sit back and see if you won't mind it as well. Yea I thought so.
Actually I'm bisexual so I wouldn't mind at all if the protagonist of the Witcher was only gay, as it would make no difference for me. Don't assume.
The argument I see here is "We have had less options in the past so all love interests in Inquisition must be bisexual to make up for it, regardless of how many there are". I do not agree with this one bit. As long as the number of choices is equal that is all that matters, don't complain about Inquisition because you have had less choice in the past in completely different games.

It actually isn't a step-up. It can potentially offer the same amount of romance content for every sexual orientation as playersexuality.
Assuming 6 LIs in Dragon Age: Inquisition compared to the 4 LIs in Dragon Age 2 (excluding Sebastian).
2 for straight
4 for bi
2 for gay
2 for lesbian
If you view it as a step-up, it's a subjective view on whether you can accept playersexuality or you find a fixed sexual orientation necessary for a character.

They can't make a game specifically for you, the sooner you realize that the better.
But they can make the game as inclusive to as many people as possible, and the best way to do that is by giving the players as much choice as possible. DA2 was a proof of concept of that idea; had it's flaws, needed a little fine tuning, but it gave everyone the maximum number of options, which was a step in the right direction.
