Yes! DAI is slowing turning into what DA2 should have been . How can people not see this is very good news!

While I have no problem with it, I remember how much I love to romance Alistair but can't. If the only person you want to romance is of the opposite sexual orientation, then it would be kinda suck. The straight players didn't feel the effect that much since most if not all are available to them until ME3 where only 2 minor gay characters are implemented. It's interesting to see how BSN would react when the characters with larger roles are now restricted to a different sexual orientation.

Ugh. Seriously, ugh. Just ugh. I don't even know if I have words to describe how disappointed I am. Every time the word 'realism' is used, I want to just throw up a little in my mouth. Because it is only ever used in this context. That's it. And I'm pretty sure it's going to be weighted heavily towards the straight male character. Of that, I have no doubt.

Honestly. If there's only one option for a lesbian Inquisitor I may cry.

Maybe we should wait until we find out who the LIs are and their preferences before declaring the sky is falling.

Or cheering for that matter.

Except in Dragon Age, there has always been gay romances, even more so in DAII. So I have no idea what you are talking about.

DAO: Zevran

DAII: Anders  and Fenris

"You should just be grateful that gay characters exist at all!"

No.

Here are my guesses:

Sera is Bi

Vivienne is F/F

Cassandra is M/F

Solas is M/M

Cullen is M/F

and for some reason, I don't feel like any of the other male companions would be romances.

I think Cullen and Scribbles are straight

Solas and Cassandra are bi

Sera and DHMG are gay.

Yea the wording was bad, but I assume that the Bioware writers know what they're doing and things will be alright.

How expensive are games there actually?

The main complaint here is a lack of options. In Origins, if you want to play a gay male, Zeveran is your alpha and omega. Don't like Zevran? Well you're sh*t out of luck.

DA2 had flaws in it's presentation, but it maximized player options, and that is never a bad thing.

Ya straight males getting buttload of options while all others get short sticks was awesome.

Except, there are SIX male companions now, and only 3 female companions. So the odds of straight females and non-straight males having more options than straight males is pretty much a given.

Unless of course a bunch of them aren't romanceable, then either way it's still on a level playing field.

Look, while I know that some folks are thrilled about the set sexualities, there is no need to be childish jackasses about the matter.  Cool, so you were right.  Awesome, good for you, now get over it.   <_<

Yes and yes.  You've said how I feel about the matter without a doubt.

I'm kinda hoping Cass and Cullen are the straight options.

*activates flame shield*

That would very unlikely to happen consider one is a companion and one is a LI. I'm pretty sure both NPC LIs would likely to be of the same sexual orientation to avoid unfairness and complains.

Bioware simply worded this horribly. They should not have used the realistic argument AT all. This is what is really pissing people off and even annoys me. State the true reason, don't hide behind "realism" argument, it does not work.

Your basing this off of another game done by a different team, and that's unfair

For me character sexualities never impact the immersion factor. They DO impact the fun factor.

Immersion for me is impacted by glitches, frame rate drop, loading screens, that sort of thing. I just still don't believe that a game like Dragon Age should ever do x,y or z because it happens to be more realistic on planet Earth.

Really, your issue and mine aren't diametrically opposed.

Say the companions were all clearly explicitly bisexual.

Well great, now they all have a set sexual orientation, so they don't feel like they exist at the whim of the main character(they do, but the less I feel that way the more immersive the game is)

You get your completely unlocked romances at the same time.

I'm not sure what having companions with clear and set identities and beliefs has to do with what's realistic on Earth though.

Why should he have to be? He's upset. Rightfully so.

What's the true reason? Realism sounds like a pretty good reason to me.

Because it's my preference, simple as that.

There are already 84375489764985male protagonists out there, Dragon Age is one of the few games that allow me to play as a woman.

And yes, it makes completely sense. Hint: preference.

When I compare the lists of "female protagonist games" and "male protagonist games" on Giant Bomb, they both have twenty-eight pages (and they go back to the eighties, too). So, games that allow you to play a female protagonist are not as few as Anita Sarkeesian would have you believe.

As for not all love interests being playersexual, I'm not a fan. Afterall, a game is made for the player and limiting his or her options seems counter-intuitive. It's not really important though. Morrigan was male only and for good reason, so it's hard to be upset at the decision.

I love when people say "it's more realistic!" as an argument. It's a video game. If I wanted realistic I'd do realistic things that wouldn't include fighting dragons with a magic green light that comes out of my hand.

I think by "realistic" , he meant that people will simply have more defined sexual orientations, which is indeed "realistic".

While I prefer the player sexual route, I don't think this is a huge hypocritical action on BioWare's part. It can be argued that they have actually become comfortable enough to write satisfying romances for all orientations, and that could potentially mean more quality interactions with LIs. I'm just trying to make the best if it here. "Shrug"

I like this, as long as it's balanced and equitable. DA:O, at least, provided the same number of options or both gender. It'll be interesting to see if Bioware would create a PURELY homosexual character (in terms of their romance, I mean, not as in a pure orientation). Imagine, for instance, if Cassandra likes women and ONLY women.

No.

To be fair if it is true, then DA:I is actually the first Dragon Age age to include gay romances, not bi romances. Since, well, you probably know, that gay=/=bi, just as straight=/=bi
