How do you avoid your favourite LI?

I don't understand how people can play the same Shepard, romance the same person, make the same decisions over and over again. You say you've done it, Xil said she's done it, I guess that just isn't for me.

The one time I didn't romance Ash was when I downloaded a save where she died on Virmire and Shep romanced no one. And played an ME2 game with that import
I never did import one into ME3
Seems like you and me have the same hang-up

I'll admit in other games, I've romanced different characters in various playthroughs. And made different choices. But in the case of Mass Effect, Ash was the only one who really appealed to me. And aside from certain dialogue actions, Renegade simply felt too douche-y to me.

It's pretty easy to end up romancing the same person if you have little interest in other LI's. For example I dislike Jacob and look at Tali like a little sister so romancing them is put of the question if I actually want to enjoy that particular playthrough.

I understand how the OP feels though. I always start a game with the intent of having a particular LI, but when I start talking with other potential LI's there is always that temptation to scrap the original idea before it locks in. Tali in ME2 is tough for me to resist, especially if I'm trying to stay with Ash after horizon.

Don't get me wrong, I've played many Shepards that have made almost all the same choices, but they made them for different reasons out of distinct motivations. That's the kind of thought that can break an habitual LI pairing.

Whenever I've gone into a playthrough with the intent of having a specific LI, I've always had to tailor make the backstory for that Shepard to logically steer towards that LI.
Example: My MShep that wound up with Kaidan was closeted until ME2. He actually DID find himself drawn to Mordin (luckily, the good doctor rather humorously shoots Shepard down if the algorithms run too far that way).

I like most characters in Bioware games, but for some reason there is always only one romance I pursue. Viconia in BG2, Silk Fox in JE, Leliana in DAO, Isabela in DA2 and Liara in ME. And I can't play renegade either ![]()

With all my femsheps, but 2, have romanced Samantha and nearly all the playthroughs are different. She will not romance anyone else. I would not have the amount of playthroughs I do if I did the same playthrough over and over.

Funny that you mention that. I recently did a femshep playthrough staying with Liara through ME2, and I got the same response from Mordin.
I do try to do the same thing though and keep a particular shep's mindset throughout the trilogy, but sometimes... I've started I dunno how many mshep ME1 playthroughs with the intent of romancing Liara, but the way Ash smiles at me after I tell her that what happened with the beacon on Eden Prime wasn't her fault... well, I've never done a mshep/Liara romance.

I have romanced Aerie and Viconia in BG (Jaheira's to acidic for me) Dawn Star and Silk Fox (and Dawn Star and Silk Fox) in Jade Empire, both Morrigan and Leliana in DAO (though Leliana more because I really like Morrigan's friendship path). I only romance Merrill in DA2. Both friendmance and rivalmance, though I prefer rivalmance. Isabela's fun, but don't really care to romance.

My playthroughs only differ by romance. Otherwise I have one Shepard and I crafted his story the way I saw fit (when I was allowed to). I guess I just don't have any interest in using the pieces to make another.

I romanced everyone in DAO, but just for the achievement. DA2 was the only one where I can never fully romance anyone other than Merrill (though I did bang Isabela a few times), but in ME I almost always go with Miranda, though I have tried out a few others. DAO was either Leliana or Morrigan, depending on my warden's gender.

Clearly you do, since you keep posting in a thread about them. It's OK. You can share your feels about your waifu here. We won't judge. We'll just say you're wrong and ours is better.

I can't help you here. Some things are "meant to be" in video games. For me it's playing as Femshep and romancing Liara. Never was able to resist that romance even for the unrequited love dynamic.

Everytime somebody mentions Jaheira or Viconia I get an itch and want to play BG again.
I really should download the HD version.

My current Shepard might end up romancing Ashley all the way to the end.
I've never done that, I always dumped her after ME1. The ME2 conversation really doesn't help there either... annoying.

In ME1 I romanced Ash, 'cause i like her poetic and familistic side, but after I meet and speek with her on Horizon, i just wish i killed her on Virmire... So I romanced Tali (what I had already did in ME1 if i had that choice) and that was the best choice I ever made in a game. Tali is soooo well written and just awesome, especially in german 'cause her voice is so damn sexy ^.^ In ME3 i was very disappointed that she's missing 50% of the game, but seen her drunken and the conversations on Rannoch make that acceptable.
Tali is just awesome, and in my opinion the best LI in ME... it's quite sad that we don't see her, or someone other in ME4...
And btw. sorry for my bad english, I'm a stupid Austrian ![]()

It's become harder for me NOT to romance Garrus, after seeing everyone elses' content.
Seriously, he gets so many more lines related to the romance, and then there's everyone else. Pftchchch.
Also, they're not voiced by Brandon Keener, which is obviously problematic.
THAT BEING SAID, as noted by other people in the thread, for my money, you make a Shepard with a different personality, who thinks other things are hawt in a potential love interest. My hopelessly idealistic, little bit clueless paragon fell for Thane, my snarky, irreverent renegade's all about Kaidan because he's a great counterbalance and quite nice to look at, my by-the-books, grouchy paragade canon loves Garrus, and Josh Shepard, who's as mousey as you can make a Shepard, likes Liara because they can nerd out together. And so on.
Generally, I figure out a Shepard personality, and the gist of how the story's going, and pick a love interest to fit.
And then I resist the urge to roll another grouchy spacecop named Esperanza who hooks up with Garrus, or just reload one of her saves. Sometimes, I even succeed!
