The one I really hated was the Acolyte Charge-Chargeless-Charge game.   For a very short period I loved the Acolyte, but then it went back to the bottom of the bin IMHO.

Yes! That was indeed a goofy time. They removed the charge mechanic from the Acolyte to supposedly stop missile glitching (which was pretty big at the time) yet did nothing about other charge up weapons like the graal. But when everybody and their mothers started carrying an acolyte as a secondary (because why not? It's weight is negligible compared to it's use) and devs saw that the missile glitching situation wasn't improving, they made the acolyte a charge up weapon again.

Also, I never understood the nerf pet powers got in regards to how much aggro they draw from enemies. I wasn't around back in the days of FB White counter of shame camping with SE's casting decoys all over the place so I don't know if that was game breaking or not, but wouldn't just decreasing the shields or duration of the pets be a better choice rather than making these powers useless against anything but the Geth?

I think there were some mistakes "overnerfing" Sabotage and the Krysae, nerfing the Vindicator at all, lolbuffing the Piranha only to nerf it a week later but for the most part the changes were okay. How the hell the Reegar survived is really puzzling? I mean how the **** does that thing not get adjusted especially if they are testing on silver. They need to get better testers or better drug testing.

Yeah, I think on Silver you just have to hold the Reegar over your head and say "Behold!" and everything on the map just melts.

really? i remember seeing you really early on the forums

Do you consider September 2012 early?

Nerfing an Ultra-Rare gun because it's powerful is just retarded.

Once again, they were nerfed due to overuse. Not just because it was powerful.

I would like the destroyer, typhoon, Piranha, and the krysae to return to their pre nerfed state. It's over 2 years now. Does that level of OPness even matter anymore?

I remember the Typhoon nerf but not much else. I do wish they would have balanced out some of the kits a bit more

Pretty sure you're right about receiving more buffs than nerfs. They made the enemy harder but gave us better tools to fight them. That's balance. Nerfing an Ultra-Rare gun because it's powerful is just retarded.

Sure they gave us better tools but they keep you paying for them either with real money or with time played to earn those tools. They balanced the enemies to make them more difficult once we had the weapons and gear to effectively combat them.

Gold at inception was harder than Platinum is now. I know some will argue against that but lets remember how hard as balls it was to kill elites when shield gate was actually a factor.

Basically, you could use a Turret or Drone to turn Banshees and Brutes into complete retards. They just sorta stood there, drooling on themselves, staring at the pet and taking a few ineffectual swipes at it while you shot them in the face with complete impunity.

Unless their swipes were doing no damage to the drone, that's the way it worked back in ME2. Although back in ME2 the drone could be taken out by a single burst from a collector trooper and had a much higher cooldown than it did in ME3. I thought that that was the whole purpose of the drone- temporarily disable a big target to allow the caster to deal with smaller targets before focusing on the big one.

Actually, a 'like' on a post I made in another thread just reminded me that I do use the Typhoon on the Juggy. Stagger immunity and being able to tank a lot of damage while firing uninterrupted makes it pretty decent.

The Destroyer does that too but with ROF/Accuracy bonus.. and you said he was mediocre.

Not the Krysae.. but the others would be ok IMO.

Krysae should be buffed a little but I completely agree it shouldn't return to it's prenerf form. It was more an abomination than the Reegar then.

For reals. It killed like the Reegar but from across the map.

Wow....

I started playing the game after all balance changes were made, and I am curious as to what made the krysae so ridiculously OP?

I have heard that it's RoF was nerfed but I doubt that the RoF alone would make it as absurdly OP as reegar. What am I missing?

I seem to remember it having a similar firing action to the Javelin but I don't remember it being hugely OP. I guess I just sucked with it.

That vid doesn't show off the double tap ability either.

I've gotta go out for an hour or so.. hopefully someone (nuke) can explain to y'all why it was the single biggest abomination to ever grace this game. Well.. that I personally witnessed.. I never saw the pre nerf falcon.

They were too frequent and it seemed often times too reactionary as a result.

It was basically an air burst sniper rifle that could killstreak whole spawns in a single clip. The damage, stability, and ROF were nerfed. On paper it's DPS was pretty good before the nerf but then look at the fact that that DPS could be spread over multiple targets simultaneously. Put it on a GI and an enemy never even got around the corner before it was dead.

it caused biower to ninja buff enemies to have longer spawn immunity

Krysae is an excellent example of how balance changes can't fix problems with design.

Some examples of what i think

The good:

GI Krysae nerf -> gtfo out of there, Krysae wasn't all that bad on its own but the fact that they forgot this combo was a thing that could exist was a huge mistake.

Singularity rework -> <3. Probably my favourite buff ever.

Marksman buff -> Synergy with its two kits is complete ****, but at least now it's so OP that it basically takes the place of 3 powers instead of one, so it's a matter of choosing Marksman with more health or Marksman with dodge.

The bad:

Typhoon damage nerf -> while the nerf to the absurd penetration made sense (a full auto with Javelin level penetration??), the damage one kinda sucked and left it behind the PPR and Harrier. Similarly, the Destroyer vs the GI.

Paladin/Carnifex nerf -> Based more on usage than actual numbers it seems.

The neutral:

Arc Pistol overbuff -> Yes, it turns every caster into a one shot headshot killing machine, but the increase in effectiveness on infiltrators is limited, which means it does a great job of making casters competitive with the ultra deeps monsters.

Geth Scanner -> See above.

I started playing after the balance changes and honestly, I think they did a pretty good job. I remember when I first tried platinum when I was a scrub, it felt impossible. Obviously, with around 800 hours experience, the difficulty settings feel like retardedly easy/stupidly easy/easy/normal and most top level guns (not just the usual suspects like the reegar or the acolyte) feel OP. But Bioware were catering for the masses, not the top 1%. So no amount of buffs or OP weapons is ever going to make platinum easy (or possible) for most players.

The only disappointment is that other than the Javelin, most of the guns that actually require the most skill to use well aren't actually the best guns. The highest DPS guns tend to be the ones that are easiest to use or aim, but it would have been nice to give a bonus to an advanced player to learn how to use a difficult to use gun and deal more DPS than a Talon, for example.

And as much as I like to use it, I wouldn't have missed incendiary glitching if they had removed it. Seriously, how did the testers miss that!? It destroys everything on platinum. so I can't even imagine the damage they were able to do on silver...
