I went to purchase the downloadable content, and it won't let me even with paypal because I can't match my Military addess to my PayPal.

Please BioWare, add APO support for those of us serving overseas.

This is not a PayPal issue as I can make purchases through any site except this one.

*EDIT* Changed the title so as not to get peoples panties in a twist. Also found a work around that may help some people.

If you use paypal and have a confirmed US address that you had before PCSing overseas then you can use that to link your Bioware account to your PayPal account.

*FINAL EDIT* Just wanted to post the response I got from EA, not exactly helpful, especially for those who couldn't use the PayPal workaround I found.

"Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding your Dragon Age: Origins purchase. It is always a pleasure to assist our customers in any way that we can.

Please contact your game retailer to purchase downloadable content via Paypal. However, there is no way to purchase downloadable content through Credit Card which is linked to APO address. I apologize for the inconvenience. Please let us know if we can be of service in the future.

Sincerely,
Virendra N
EA Online Support"

Nothing? I tried again today with my credit card. I'm assuming the main issue is that since there is no AE option for city and I have to use New York for the postcode 09470 that I can't get card or PayPal to match up. I would really like to purchase and download the addons currently available before I get too deep into the game.

Ok found the answer and it isn't helpful at all. Maybe because my physical mailing address is a UK house and I'm trying to purchase as an American (becuase I am!). I can't think of any other workarounds other than waiting 3 years until my tour here ends and I'm back in the US.

"A second issue we have seen concerns users attempting to purchase points with their FPO or APO addresses. If you receive your mail at an FPO or APO address, you will not be able to use this address for your billing address. Please try again with your physical address to complete your transaction.

Of course, if you continue having issues when attempting to purchase BioWare points, feel free to contact Customer Support by clicking the Email Us button located on the left-hand side of the support page."

Not supporting the troops? A little dramatic don't you think?

For Steam, if you contact them they will give you a special link to make purchases from in $.

To the other guy, no I'm not being over dramatic. If you can't create an option to support an APO (NOT a PO Box) address, then you are solely preventing US Military and US Contractors stationed overseas from full access to your products features. Not providing the same level of access to those of us on this side of the ocean who ARE American citizens and technically living on US Soil is "not supporting"

Most companies have a work around of some sort, I can't find squat for EA. Another company that comes to mind is Sony. Luckily you can purchase PSN cards. No such option for EA games.

Sorry, but you're bringing too much drama into it. You're specifically wording it as if they "Dislike the Troops" as in, they're "Un-American".

Apparently you're not very aware on how much of a logistical issue it is to supply to APO addresses. However, being that it's DLC and not physical merchandise, I would likely assume it's simply a red-tape issue or some other technicality.

I've had much experience with multiple APO addresses, sometimes a company doesn't do it for whatever reason (usually a temporary oversight or technicality) and I just shrugged it off and moved on.

Bioware is a business, not a political figure. They want your money just as much as they want the money from those state-side. You are international now, and as such more logistical issues are considered when supplying you with merchandise. You don't get any special privileges for being military and APO, they still have to deal with international rules and regulations, and sometimes it doesn't always work as intended. Nothing to get worked up about.

Hmm I didn't know EA was Canadian ;)

Either way there is no logistical issue, it's simply the addition of the AE option for State and it's job done. OR as I already suggested just accept paypal transactions and not require a paypal address confirmation. There is no physical product shipment. I'm not a lawyer or anything so maybe it's harder than that, but every other company except for Sony and now BioWare/EA has created a workaround of some sort.

To be precise I don't mean it along the same lines as those who think anti-military and such. That's a different form of support. And after a few drinks and contemplation, I see I could have worded things differently. However, I'll stand by "not supporting" I'll just change it to "Americans abroad" :) There honestly are no special issues as far as I know because US bases and Consulates count as US soil, shipping physical products over here doesn't involve more than shipping to NY. This isn't a physcial product. I just can't grasp what's so hard about it.

I had contacted EA support the first day I posted this, I still haven't heard back from them. Any way I did find a work around for people with PayPal. If you have a Stateside registered address it doesn't have to be your home address just a confirmed addy. I now have points and am a bit happier. I sitll wish they (and other comapnies) would fix these issues.

I had the same problem with using my Credit Card, And I suspect I will get the same answer back from EA on my Email, which to me is lack of support. This is something that should have been thought of before the store system went up.

That said I was able to get around the issue by using my PayPal which is linked to the same Credit Card and putting in my Prior US address *Which I have not lived in for 3 years*

So for those American troops overseas I suggest you make a PayPal account linked to your credit card to get around the situation and just use a prior address. Make sure though when you make your Pay Pal account you use your correct APO address, the address you put into the system for buying points here does not seem to make a difference when using PayPal, it does not have to match the address paypal has, Mine didn't.

It has to match a registered PayPal address, which you prob. never deleted your US mailing address when you changed it to your APO? I had my prior address on there already so I don't know.

Nop, It has my APO Box, just double checked. It worked fine when I put my Old US address in the billing info for Bioware store, even though it did not mach my PayPal address. I did not get my PayPal account until I went overseas, so I have never given PayPal my Old US address.

Since ive been here in germany this whole APO stuff is a real pain, its definately got to be hard for companies to deal with it also. Ill try the contacting steam before i purchase censored games in the future hope that works out. Oh ya the paypal thing works pretty good except for direct2drive it still has the ip check or whatever. Anyways thanks to all that have helped were kind of left out in the dark overhere when it comes to purchasing stuff. Oh and lets not get started on the whole xbox and ps3 video store and netflix damn country restrictions.....

Steam will send you a link to US purchases, Impulse charges in USD and does a daily conversion so that doesn't hurt much, D2D won't let you purchase and even if you have prior you can't download (unless they recently changed it).

Also can not purchase downloadable content because i am stationed in Australia and i have an APO AP address.

The fact anyone does not ship to APO addresses is RETARDED, because all it is, is shipping to California and once there the Government takes over and ships it the rest of the way.

APO = shipping costs to get to california that is it.

*EDIT* (Ooops confused APO/FPO with AE AA) APO AE is NY, APO AA I think is CA ;) Unfortunately a lot of companies charge extra for DoD addresses because they have contracts with FedEx or UPS, only USPS will ship cheaply to APO's really... however if you have a company with a non USPS contract you get raped on shipping. Some still honor their free shipping policies though. Don't know the websites off the top of my head but there are a few lists of companies and APO/FPO support.

I live in Cairo and have an APO address. Repeated attempts using multiple cards and my address in the US of no use because, I think, their system sees my IP is overseas. This is ridiculous as I can order online tons of stuff from overseas using my credit card and have it shipped.. but not DLC????

I live in Japan, originally from the US but not in the military. EA has been just a complete tool when it comes to non US/overseas residents.

Agreed...I am simply tired of waiting for a work-around. Shame to them for not supporting APO, DPO, and FPOs!
