Straight guys only had 2 options in DA:O and DA2 as well. So it is not a step backwards at all.

He said that since there was a lot of females in power the necessity of having more female on the party was not that great. Since when that happen before in any game? Never. Most of the games have a lot of males on power but that was never the reason to have less males.

Like I said creative reasons I understand, they chose to do it because they find the male companions more compelling, the rest no. 

What does what other games do have to do with dragon age inquisition, from more then your own personal opinion. What empirical relevance that affects everyone, both those holding your stance and those against it, does this have to do with this particular game? Like, it sounds like you're complaining about what other games do, not what bioware does.

While that trailer just blew both my eyes out of my head there's was one moment that made me put them back in. Why are there only 3 female companions!!! Plus i am EXTREMELY DEVASTATED that there is no female qunari companion. Does that mean there will be no qunari female companion romance. whyyyyyy BIO!!!. this is the first game were qunari females will be shown. plus the first game were we will have the option to play as a qunari. I dont get why they brought the races back and added a new one to play with only to give us mostly human companions. I wanted a serabaas at least. Iron bull is cool but there could have been better stuff done with qunari then just another qunari warrior. Sten was all the super cool qunari warrior i needed. I wanted something new. I wanted to get to know a qunari female and see their opinion. I wanted to see how a qunari mage would work. what about freeing a qunari mage and teach him to accept who he is(just a made up idea). now am i saying give us three qunari? of course not! all we needed is one. but not another warrior. Now if it was a female warrior then yes cause its something new. but they just gave us a bunch of humans. I understand we have not gotton to know any of them yet but im not talking about personality im talking appearence an verity. and as far as appearance and a new look iron bull has both. but like i said we did not really need another qunari warrior. but since he looks so bad ass and despite what i have said in this thread i will likley be using him the most. But still we should have at least 2 qunari since we have to elf's. a female qunari archer maybe? but if you wanna go mega extrem with it a FEMALE QUNARI MAGE!!! that would be a new level of badassery. i hate to be that guy but i just really had high hopes for a female qunari. any i think everything els puts the fantastic in fantastic.

The whole companion shot at the end of the trailer, we see 12 people. All but 4 are human. Yes I would have loved to had a female qunari and a female dwarf. A little more variety would have been nice. The entire world is in danger, so where are the other races to help solve this problem?








Also, will we ever see the Fex? Was hoping for one as a companion as well.

I'll just jump in and say this:

 

There seems to be quite the laser-like focus on party members. Understandable, perhaps, considering those are the characters with whom you spend a great deal of time...but if we're to talk in terms of representation I'm a bit uncertain why 5:4 would be awesome and 6:3 somehow equates to horribleness on our part. Naturally your mileage will vary, in terms of what you want to see, and I won't tell you what that should be.

 

We. however, approach the equation a little differently. We come up with roughly even numbers in our concepts, even across gender lines, across racial lines as well as across classes. We pick the concepts that we like the most, and while there's always a point where we discuss diversity, there are many points of diversity we have to consider. Class diversity is perhaps highest on the list (in terms of gameplay utility), along with a diversity of viewpoints and how they intersect with the story. Gender diversity is also considered, but when we look at it in terms of representation, we look at it in terms of representation across the entire story—not just in the party.

 

Considering Inquisition takes place in a world where many (if not most) of the world's power players are female (the ruler of Orlais, the head of the Chantry and the Circle of Magi, possibly the ruler of Ferelden and others...not to mention the many characters outside of the party with whom you will also be deeply involved. I can honestly say I don't think we're doing badly on that front, not enough to feel we should switch the gender of a character concept we like to hit an arbitary number in this one group of characters. It sounds like it might be easy to do, but that's never been how character concepts come to be--we're not just flipping switches on a variety of grids until we hit some perfect balance for every desire and then writing interesting stories.

 

If you disagree, and feel we've done poorly even short of seeing the rest of the cast, then so be it. I completely understand.

 

Insofar as the OP's desire for a Qunari female character—I hear you, believe me. Sometimes it seems like we can never fit enough awesome concepts in one game.

 

But we'll see Qunari and Dwarf females about as NPCs right? Right?

I'd have no problem with there being more male LIs for female players, for the record. Straight dudes got the opposite in ME so why not?

 

Of course it's a creative choice. As Gaider said, they choose based on what they think the best character stories for the game are.

Yes, Jensaarai, you are the first person to consider there may be a 2/2/2 split. This is not something talked about endlessly in the romance threads or something most people currently assume to be true.

Considering one LI is not a companion, it is not only 2 non-romancable characters/companions. There also not 8 companions but 9.

All this news coming out. XD It makes the possibility for fairness even greater. It confuses me more as to how people can assume it'll be unfair.
