Every plot and character Bioware has made is based fairly closely on KotOR and Baldurs Gate 2. It's getting a bit old imo. I'm just saying
Who else is expecting the story and characters to be just like every other bioware game?

That's what the people want.

But they do change the characters up a little, i mean they are difference races and have different agendas and their characters are unique for the most part. The formula is what makes it a Bioware game.

Depends on what you consider to be the common elements of Bio games, doesn't it? What's similar about BG2 and KotOR that they don't have in common with, say, The Witcher and Fallout:NV.

The only certainty I have about this title is that I do not like what I'm hearing about it so far.
It's a very beautiful game. But what good is that if the story itself suffers from the same 'you must lose everything' trope?

To be honest i don't mind the formula at all, so few good AAA rpg's out there nowadays. Yet i feel Mass Effect 2 did it differently on a few key factors, yes there was a threat, but it was not galaxy wide. So the game felt more personal, and more dark. Which makes ME2 the most exciting tbh, despite what i think of gameplay.
Yet i feel like Bioware got the time to explore other ways to deal with storytelling in the future, new Mass Effect game and probably a bunch more of DA games plus new ip.

I think the overall plot of the majority of recent Bioware games (I've only played the ME trilogy and DA:O and DA2) isn't really good, mostly being the same "save the world (or galaxy, or kingdom) from a evil force (being that the darkspawn and the reapers) that want to destroy all lives just because". I think that the one that got the furthest away from that formula was DA2, making a much more ambiguous conflict (you know... less one sided).
What I really like in the Bioware games though (more on DA than ME) is how you interact with it's world. It feels much more immersive than the majority of RPGs nowadays, with the way the dialogue is done and the choices you can make through the story, and even though sometimes in small ways, affect the world around you. (another good example of game that makes me feel this way are the Telltale games)
oh!...and hi... I'm kinda new to this forum... hope we can all enjoy ourselves here.

I can only wish Inquisition would have writing like KOTOR and BG2... sadly i don't think that will happen.

Yeah, it'll probably be fairly similar. I'll create my character and something awesome will happen.
I'll deal. ![]()

I've only played Dragon Age and Mass Effect games so I can't compare to the older titles. I find the plots of the various games to be different enough to hold my interest. Perhaps the structure of the narratives is similar but that doesn't bother me. I buy Bioware games because I love their formula. I enjoy the focus on story telling, the companions, the fact that I can play as a female and the ability to actually pause combat (can't really play a lot of other games as I suck at live combat). There is nobody else making games like this anywhere. I'm a fan despite some of their previous misteps.

I have to agree. I won't knock the art direction, it's a pretty game. I'm honestly shocked it looks as good as it does.
However, this is the one thing Bioware does and it's what they do adequately well. At least there are no surprises and you know what you're getting when you jump in. They make sure they tick off all their classic formula boxes and get on with the game. I'm reserving judgement until I can see more than just bits and pieces scattered everywhere and try to get a bit more excited about it but I'm not going to fall into the trap I did with Dragon Age 2. I was so invested in finding out everything I could about it right up until the day I got it in the mail, then what I had built up on my own came crashing down. I'll never do that with another game or another Bioware game again.

Most stories can boiled down to a simple plot, but it's the execution of everything else that makes all the difference (the layering, execution, characterizations, sub-plots, settings and conventions used).
I think this game is going to be epic and I can't wait.

Well there is certainly a formula there but idk if you can really say every game is exactly the same. Not every game follows it that closely and that really doesn't seem to be the deciding factor in whether or not it's good.

I just want a mage who likes the fact they're a mage and has fun with it. Doing magic pranks or just being cool.
"Oh hey Inquisitor. Looks like you really spent a lot of time styling your hair for the grand ball! *ZAP* woops, looks like it went a little staticy"

Based on the leaked survey, we might get that with Dorian, and there'll certainly be elements of that with Viv.
More on topic, Bioware's overarching plots have always been more of a backdrop to what can be some really well written side stories and minor arcs. It's the way I like it, lots of brilliant smaller moments, leading up to a big finish, and it looks like Inqusition will be adding enough variety to the formula to keep me entertained.

They have a similar foundation but the stories always seem different. DA2 tried a different formula and most people say it did not work. I am ok with a similar layout as long as the story itself is good and the characters are well realized.

As long as the characters don't feel like retreads (with the exception of Varric. By all means retread the hell out of him). That being said if they surprise me and branch from the BW plot structure I wouldn't mind.

I like dark stories with dark endings.
