Salarian Engineer is history, just like farming Geth/Gold.
The N7 Paladin remains one of the most used power casters.
It can't be only a coincidence.

The nerf to the decoy didn't help the poor Salarian
The Paladin is one of the best kits in multiplayer and has the glitchest powerset in multiplayer (to the players advantage).
Decoy is still a very good power though. It still distracts more than half the enemies in the game.
I play paladin melee and SE purely as an 'engineer/caster'. So, the answer is no, for me atleast.
The Paladin makes everything obsolete. ![]()
With almost the same power set, better dodge and melee it sure makes the SE look less attractive. That said, I still play the SE way more than the Paladin.
Snap Freeze should've never been released. Too many advantages, only one (miniscule) drawback.. range.. but it goes through walls so who cares.
Preach!!!

Not to mention higher base Shields.
Congrats for playing the SE more. I love the SE with a scorpion for roleplaying, feels like a STG agent.
SE + Sniper Rifle = ranged Tech Burster
Paladin + Talon = in-yer-face Tech Burster
I'd say the Paladin, with that shield certainly lends itself more readily to close-combat play whilst the SE can take an SR weight reduction at tier 6 on the passive which works nicely for sitting back and priming from a distance.
They can still play quite differently so I guess it depends on what mood you're in.

I miss the days of playing SE, but I didn't use decoy, I used energy drain. Oh it was glorious. I think it was a more effective tank build than most, instantly restoring my shields every 5 seconds or something like that.
Maybe the SI made him obsolete.
Or maybe he never became obsolete.
Sure did.. even against Geth. Who needs decoy to distract the spawn when you can cryo explode the whole thing.

Snap Freeze is indeed way too broken. The Paladin needed to have some Biotic power instead.
AIU could have had Decoy/Incinerate and some SMG/Pistol buff in order to resemble EDI, but thats is another story.
No matter how good the Paladin is, there's one thing he can't do: be a Salarian. ![]()
When I feel like honoring one of my favorite characters of the ME trilogy, the Salarian Engineer is my choice to do so. It's still a good kit even if it is overshadowed.
Its a crying shame there are only 2 Salarian kits.
Paladin would've been fine with Throw instead of Snap Cheese.. but Biower wanted all the Earth kits to have new powers so, it would've had to be something else that was new.Snap Freeze is indeed way too broken. The Paladin needed to have some Biotic power instead.

As far as Edi goes.. you'd think Biower would've taken a look at what weapon catagory had the most good non-UR weapons.. and not made a class that could abuse the hell out of guns like the Reegar,. But even if they felt the Reegar was balanced bc of range and the associated risk to get inside that range.. they said F it anyway and gave her free medi-gel grenades.. AND Snap Freeze. Wow.. just wow.
... and that's probably why out of every 10 EdiBots I run into in PuGs ... one 1 is used halfway competently.
The last one I ran into that was good was using a Disciple ... which amused me slightly because I was also using a Disciple (on a Justicar) - never see that gun in the wild ever and then there are two of us in the same game using it ![]()

I often forget I have Snap Freeze. I'm too busy blowing heads off with my Claymore and doing back flips.
Just play the vagina head and have fun and don't think about "better" options. Go play GI else.
You think they look similar?
Go buy a mirror and take a look down there. Heh.
Regarding OP, viva la difference; Salarian's fun enough and decoy still trolls geth.
The Paladin has a more powerful ability in Snap Freeze, but to make the most of him you are somewhat forced into close quarters.
The SE on the other hand can be played however you like.
I'd actually say the basic Human Engineer is more likely to make the SE redundant than the Paladin. Overload is more powerful than ED, and Drone seems generally better at distraction/CC than Decoy.

Seriously. If there is any one kit I would add it would be Salarian Soldier. We clearly know they exist from Virmire and elsewhere. I never understood why this was never released as a kit.
No. Decoy is still fun and useful, ED is OP more than any other single power in the game specced properly, and somehow despite all the testing proving it works as intended on the Paladin, it feels like it works a lot better for the Salarians. I use Operative Gear and the Valiant with Scorpion as a sidearm, 66653.
