You probably signed it off when you hit the "I agree to the terms of use" (or something) box when registering for the forum.

Doesn't exist on a private forum. Bioware can do whatever they like on their own forums, if they say no discussion of piracy at all, that's the line you have to take. If they say every post has to end with "I love ponies because they're fantastic!" or you're banned, then you do it or you get banned. Freedom of speech doesn't cover private forums.

No, that couldn't be it.  It also couldn't have anything to do with some overused cliche that people think they have "Freedom of Speech" in private forums, even though the whole little First Amendment and even the nasty Bill of Rights thing only applies to GOVERNMENT ACTORS.  Jebus H freaking Christmas.  (pet peeve. /rant off)

Freedom of Speech doesn't exist on the Bioware Forums.

Forums have their own set of rules that are the law of the land.

There is no freedom of speech in a private forum.  Likewise I cannot enter your home and say whatever I want, you have the right to call the police and escort me from your property.

bioware houses their servers in china.

...kidding, it is just easier to clean house then have people advocating piracy or discussing it, that would be bad business sense.

This.

In addition, Canada =/= The United States.

Unfortunately piracy is illegal and the moderators here have said not to discuss it at all. Period.

A comparison would be to enter a police station and start shouting you've got several bags of weed and are also willing to share your cocaine supply, only to act surprised when the police arrests you.

Freedom of speech means you can discuss about piracy all you want, but not on the developer's own forum, which they own, meaning they can set whatever rules they want. Unless of course you also just let any stranger into your own house and let them do whatever they want?

If you want to use your freedom of speech to the full extent, you must use your own medium. Freedom of speech does not demand that a third party, such as Bioware forums, should publish your speech. You can't demand for a newspaper to publish your article - the same way you can't demand a forum to publish your post.

Freedom of speech is great, except that here, in Bioware's private community forum , where you agreed to abide by certain rules and restrictions when you signed up, you have only as much freedom of speech as we allow. And if you look at our history and talk to some forum veterans, you'll find that we give our community quite a bit of leeway.

But software piracy is something we can not and do not support, nor is the suggestion, advocacy, or encouragement of.

And since this is not Me related, I'm shutting it down. If you have any further questions or concerns, you can message me privately and I'll be happy to chat with you. Thank you.

End of line.

Freedom of Speech only applies to when you state or federal government. They can do whatever they want here.

Freedom of speech does not apply to a private, forum.  They can ban or lock your threads on the possiblity that you smell like 3 day old string cheese if they want.

You have the freedom to shut your yap about piracy. And a host of other subjects. These are Bioware's forums, and they decide what you may or may not talk about while you are here.

This is from one old interview with one of the BioWare dudes.

"Q. Why do you hate freedom?

A. Freedom killed my dog."

So u know why they dont like freedom that much here anymore.

Hey genius, I read your previous thread. Perhaps you forgot that the freaking pirate/idiot Links19 posted information in your previous thread about how to pirate the bloody game. Did you think BioWare was going to leave that kind of information up? Hell, I PM'ed Priestly about it AND reported that retard. It's not about freedom of speech - read the above sentences. Damn morons. Speaking of which, I believe Links19 is now operating under Mortar22 (except his attempt at starting another such thread got yanked), but do report him if you see him. Maybe that dipstick will show up again under yet another alias.
