From what I see in the war room pic, I'm impressed with the female character designs. I don't see one instance of sexualization! I was hoping that we wouldn't get another one of Isabella's ridiculous costumes and I got my wish, at least with the default gear. I'm also glad to see that they took Viv's cleavage in another direction. Awhile back, her costume had a large cut out with lots of boobage exposed. No boobs on display now!

All of the costumes appear to be well designed, functional and still manage to be attractive, all without objectifying the women. Good job Bioware!

Must admit that this is an aspect I think should be dictated by the character and not simply because they are a girl.

I don't want overflow of boobie-flesh everywhere either, but I didn't mind Isabela's outfit because it fitted her sex-crazed character pretty well.

For that matter I'm not sure I would have minded a boob-gab in Vivienne's clothing either, she was in the empirial court, and showing boobies seems to be a thing there.

I really like the female designs too, though I am a bit surprised none of them has a haircut that goes below the shoudlers.

I love Vivienne's design so much. When I envision a high court fashionista mage, I expect a scantily clad pop star in a thong. I love that they took it in a different direction.

Yeah, many people have justified BW's choice of costume for Isabella based on her personality. For me, her outfit was just too over the top and off putting. There are ways to indicate that a woman is sexual without having her run around in an outfit that is absolutely ridiculous in a combat situation. The other problem I have with Isabella's characterization is that they went there with her at all. How cliche. How many women are depcited as sex crazed in fiction and ecspecially video games? And how many women are dressed like tarts because of this characterization? Did we really need another one?

Regarding Viv, I wasn't thrilled about the cleavage in earlier versions of her costumes but it wasn't over the top or anything. I really wouldn't have been too upset by it given that the rest of her outift isn't revealing and that the other women in the group are handled well. At the time, however, with only two female companions being known, I was worried about where BW would take it with other characters. I do think that BW has to be very careful about sexualizing their first black female companion as this is a real life problem in society. So, I'm glad they played it safe with her costume.

I love Vivienne's design so much. When I envision a high court fashionista mage, I expect a scantily clad pop star in a thong. I love that they took it in a different direction.

Yep, I love Viv's look! Beautiful and stylish!

Isabella's character and appearance actually made me a little physically ill if I thought about them too much.  I couldn't stand her party banter.  Less sexualized characters are far better, as far as I'm concerned.

It's part of her personality, and she's got reasons to be like that. She didn't come off as oversexualized to me, it felt natural for once. I was more irked by, say, Ashley in ME3. I still modded the game to give her pants though :D

I too quite like the designs of the characters (though I don't think I've seen a close up of the third character - the one that's not Cass or Viv?). They look very fresh to me.

I will say two things though - the first is that I hope Cass's accent isn't overly extreme like it was in DA2. Now that she's in the party, I don't want to hear Monty Python French day in day out.

The second is that I am still disappointed by the lack of racial variety for the females. We friggin need a dwarf or Qunari female in the party. It sucks the guys get to be so varied, but the ladies are stuck with human or elf - size of boobs really the only variation between the two.

But at the end of the day, I am happy - I have quite a thing for Cass.

Cass will need a miniskirt armor mod, if ever possible.

What I've seen so far looks good.  I wouldn't mind some armor and robe choices that are a bit more revealing as long as there are other options that look more practical. Each of my characters are a bit different, it's nice to have options in their outfits.  I liked the Dalish armor with the midriff showing even though the regular leather looked more practical to me and I liked Morrigans outfit but I also liked the normal robes, though I wasn't overly thrilled with the Tevinter robes.  I've seen some mod robes that were wonderful but they never opt for things like that.

I liked Isabela's outfit, though will admit that it reminded me of a Halloween costume I wore when i was in my late 20's.  Still Miranda's outfit, and the camera view irritated me far more than anything else I've seen. Having the camera focus on one area of the body is far more disturbing to me.  Like having a guy at work stare and having to tell him, "my eyes are up here, not there".

I think Isabela's outfits weren't necessarily out of character.

That being said, she also probably could have shown a little less skin and would still have been sexy. For example....

Well, to be honest, most young women I know show as much skin as it's practical and socially acceptable in any given situation. The fact that women (and men too, but this is about women) DO show cleavage and a lot of it at that has always seemed to me as one of the biggest arguments against arguments against 'fan service' and 'sexualization', whatever they happen to mean at the moment.

Not to say I wouldn't have preferred Isabela to put on some damn pants.

I'm not a fan of the female companions.. Cassandra looks a bit butch, her overall design in DA2 was great though and Sera just plain looks weird, there's just something about the new elf models that i just find odd. As for Vivienne, I'm on the fence.. i can't decide whether i like her look or not.. damn Orlesians.

Hey thanks! She does look a bit odd - but I guess that's Dragon Age elves for ya. Is it just me or does she look a bit like this lady in profile:

It would make more sense if she were not a combatant though. You see random women in mini skirts and tube tops but female police, firefighters, soldiers, etc...all wear practical and protective things when on duty.

As long as scenes within the games doesn't go the "Mass Effect 2 Miranda butt view", I'll be happy. Very hard to take a deep talk with Miranda about her problems seriously when 80% of the screen is her butt.

I'm not arguing against that. As I said, I have no idea why a pirate captain would spent four/five years in the same city without ever trying to put some pants on. It's weird and it doesn't seem to make sense. At the very least, they should have tried to provide an explanation; "Oh, well, it is the latest fashion trend in Rivain."

That said, there are plenty of historical examples of warriors (mostly men, but women too) who chose to go to battle almost or completely naked even having available armor at hand.

I always thought the explanation was that she's very..."open" and prefers to have the least amount of clothes on as possible for easier access... hell if it wasn't for magic, i'm sure she would have died by now from some disease.

Isabella's explanation is, that's the undergarments she's in when her ship is sunk and she swims to the shore. Then she spends a decade in Kirkwall in that because iconic appearance ._.

It would be believable if she was a barbarian of some sort rather than a pirate captain but as silly as it was I was fine with it because she was the only one sexualized. If they'd dressed Aveline like that I would have been upset. It was weird though that none of your companions changed clothes over 7 years. I bet they're quite ripe lol.
