Ah, remnants of the colonial inferiority complex to the motherland. (Unless you're British, in which case forget I said anything)

Nothing quite says steak and fine wine like this:

For female I'll have to hear them to decide but I really like the voice on the trailer so it will be British for a male play through.

I'm wondering if you'll get to "choose" at all. I sort of imagined they'd be race-specific. English accent for elves and humans, American accent for Qunari and dwarves. So, if you "chose" to be an elf or human, you'd be locked in to the English accent, if you "chose" to be a Qunari or dwarf, you'd be locked in to the American accent?

That would make sense.

British of course. It's like choosing between steak with fine wine and a hamburger with beer.

Hey, don't knock hamburger and beer. If there's one thing young people and their high food standards have done for the world it's made some damn fine and fancy hamburgers and beers.

That said define British accent here. Actually define American accent while we're at it. It'd be pretty bad if the only two options for an elf inquisitor (especially since they're Dalish) are classic regal English accent and Newcaster American.

Man they really should have just gotten John Barrowman as the male inquisitor. You want your inquisitor to be British? Well then your inquisitor is audibly from Glasgow. You want American? Then your inquisitor is Jack Harkness, you lucky dog.

American for the Qunari and Dwarf, British for the rest.  Hopefully, the VA isn't over the top with either.

You're one of those people who thinks everyone in Britain speaks like Benedict Cumberbatch, huh. :P

Accent for me is irrelevant, it's the voice acting talent.

Mike Laidlaw has tweeted several times about it being a choice, two for each gender.

http://www.gameranx....tions-and-more/

http://www.examiner....racter-revealed

Both articles confirm it as a selection, not just set to each race. Though you can stick with the "defaults" if you want.

Both of those articles are using that one Tweet from Laidlaw as proof of it being a choice, but again, Laidlaw never says it's a choice, he only says two VO's are supported.

I'm not trying to pee on anyone's parade, I'm just trying to make sure people don't end up believing this is a confirmed feature when it's not. If it is then that would be awesome, but everyone should probably be more cautious when reading confirmations from devs.

You sure that's precise enough? Wouldn't want you pining for the speech of some village in Suffolk, only to get some Sloaney actors.

Seriously, it's a British accent of a British person, not the British accent of all British people. Same when you replace British with American. "English accent/dialect" is too ambiguous in meaning in general usage due to the eponymous language covering a much wider area than the country it derives its name from. Unfortunate, but yours is not the only case of such, so deal with it. Jeez.

I'm from some village in Suffolk :)

I do agree that using 'British' (or even 'American') is pretty vague. Could be rhotic or non-rhotic. Hopefully we can get a peek at the voices before too long.

I will be playing an elf first time around, so American it is.

I care more about the vocal texture and tone rather than the accent.

British most likely.

However now I'm confused. Are we getting 2 female voice, 2 male voices each with an option on the accent? Or are we getting 1 female voice and 1 male voice with the accent options?

For me, it is not the accent, rather the tone of the voice and the delivery that is more important.  For example, I still cannot play a female Hawke because I am not a fan of her voice.  Which is a shame, as most of my Wardens are female.

Saying that, the male inquisitor's voice reminded me a lot of Bann Teagan and I did like it a lot.  I am very intrigued to hear the female inquisitor's voice now.

I think it depends on what character I'm playing.  As a human rogue, a suave british accent may be more appropriate.  For a dwarven or qunari warrior, an american accent would be more suitable.  As for any representation of myself in game, I'll go with an american accent since I am an american.

British for my Human Warrior and American for my Qunari Mage.

I would also lean towards a British rogue, suarve, charming lovable scoundrel!

However now having the Qunari choice I think ill rock a female Qunari 'something', especially agter how cool they looked in the recent comic!

British as a human. If we're going to go medieval, might as well go Full Monty Python. The british accent will always sound more refined and fancypants-ish, which seems like a good fit. Otherwise, Classic American.

I don't know yet, the voice matters more to me than the accent. But if I had to choose based on just the accent I'd pick American. I can't stand strong british accents, sorry.

What no irish/welsh voice option; well i suspose its a good call to have brittish voices as the can't be buchered like in every other film and video game besides atlas in bioshock.

Each gender gets two different voice actors, one has an American accent and one has a British accent.

I'll probably choose the British one, but I'll have to wait until I hear what they all sound like before deciding.
