So far it looks like the only reason we are leading the inquisition is because of our green magic hands. That we were just a regular Soldier/ Thief / Mage who just happened to be at the Fade Explosion, be the only survivor & be gifted Super unique magic powers that only we have so we can be Save the world (AKA the only reason the PC has any plot relevance/ reason to even be in the game)

I don't really like this generic premise for a Story but Bio could do something cool with it (Like the Exile in Kotor2 by obsidian for example)

Anyway it sounds like the PC is quite inexperienced when it comes to war & leadership, I'm just concerned that that inexperience will lead to stupidity.

I know this relies totally on how Bio write the inquisitor, not his/her supposed intelligence or cunning. But given their last 3 games, the Protagonists in them were never the sharpest tools in the shed.

Hawke wasn't too bad in this regard but Shepard was just a Block headed Moron who made awkward speeches & hosed their problems with Bullets.

I'd just like to avoid any character destroying, face palming moments of DERP from my protagonist in DA:I if possible

The amount of times in ME2 & 3 especially where I wanted to slap Shepard for being so stupid ruined the Role playing for me.

A protagonist who isn't an idiot, a chest pounding grunt or someone's ****** (Insert DA version of Hacket here) would be a very appreciated  B)

Is This important to you guys as well? A protagonist who isn't stupid?

No. ME3 Shepard was probably the smartest out of all of them, because by that point they knew they were an idiot.

I was seriously about to post some long-winded rant about how Hawke isn't that stupid but thankfully your post wasn't just senseless hate.

Anyway, I think it'll depend upon how you, the player, act. If you're really good at tactics and whatnot, your Inquisitor will be. But if you're like me and have absolutely no clue what you're doing then they'll come across as an idiot.

As long as my Inquisitor isn't as dumb as ME3 Shepard I won't complain. It'd be fun to play someone who fails miserably at leading, but has to lead the Inquisition anyway, and slowly becomes much better.

Yeah, I remember when I played Mass Effect 2, I would try and have my character behave in the least stupid way, which often meant choosing "neutral" dialogue options.

I felt I succeeded to an extent, but then I was brutally punished by half my crew dying because I wasn't able to resolve their conflicts for a lack of paragon/renegade points.

The game basically forced you act stupidly. Same for Mass Effect 3.

Wait, wait ... you got half your crew killed, and other people are stupid for choosing the Paragon/Renegade options?

Their characters are stupid.

Oh, and I exaggerated a bit for dramatic impact. Two of my crew died, the ones who get into a fight and whose loyalty you lose if you can't resolve the conflict.

They get into a fight, and you can't say "Knock it off!" because you either weren't all sunshine and roses or a complete jerk before that.

I don't see Hawke or Shepard as being stupid, so no I don't think the Inquisitor will be either.

Shepard is one of the strongest protagonists ever, actually.  Hawke isn't really worth discussing cause he was just experiencing what happens in some town first hand. He does nothing for me, really.

The fact that ME1 & 2 Punished you for not going 100% Paragon or Renegade was one of the worst Role playing mechanics I've experienced in a Bioware game. They fixed that in ME3 at least.... about the only Role playing thing they did fix. But DA:I doesn't suffer from some stupid morality system so at least we won't be punished for trying to play it smart

Hawke didnt strike me as a ******. Young and unlucky, yes. But she was mostly caught in the events. In my playthrough at least. Shepard was moron, nothing to say about it.

They're characters are stupid.

Making a grammar mistake while mocking a character's stupidity isn't the most secure form of argument.

It's their* characters are stupid.

Yes, thank you.

I am usually fairly particular about such things.

FIXED.

I'm hoping for variations of "we fight or we die."

NPC :  What shall we do inquisitor?

We Scuffle or we Terminate.

We Oppose or we pass.

We Struggle or we will be obliterated.

Also, it would just be "the ones who get into a fight." No extra apostrophe needed.

The basic principle of a Bioware Protagonist is that you solve all problems through murder. Generally speaking, it's very hard for an RPG to let you be intelligent because intelligent, clever solutions to problems are hard for the designers to implement. Story-wise you have to be in a box, and then developers don't want to override your agency by making you come up with set plans by putting words in your mouth, so it's the NPCs who come up with all the ideas.

Was it Sheps achievement's that made him or her stand out from the bunch for you?

Like they do achieve some pretty nifty things I'm not denying that but to me it just seemed like Dumb Luck rather than their skill.

"Shepard is awesome because the plot says so"

The complete Lack of any sort of Competent Planning (Suicide mission+ Earth) , research on the enemy(Collectors + Reapers), Military Strategy, Convincing leadership skills(I find their Speeches rigid) &  overall stupid dialogue that frustrates me to no end.

I don't know,If you want him to be one then probably yes...I,for one, know that my inquisitor will be witty and brilliant!
