I'm not sure I agree with "necessary", but as long as there's "player autonomy" following I have no problem with that.

I'd say it is necessary, at least in the sense that:

A ) To make it clear that your mission is to stop the veil tear without presuming overmuch about the players motives

B ) An initial affiliation with the Chantry (So far as the Inquisition's founding is provided for in some obscure corner of Chantry doctrine) gives the Inquisition some grounds for legitimate authority in the eyes of Thedas from the get go.

I, certainly, am sorry I ever read it and will do a much better job of avoiding such things in the future as a result.

I did not mean you I meant the developers should tell us less about the plot so we have more to look forward to in the game.

Technically they said almost nothing on the plot. The Breach events and is being leader of the inquisition were kind of necessary for marketing the game.
The Cassandra one is a spoiler, but it's not like the devs threw it in our faces. They made an interview (and at this point some spoiler might happen) and didn't post it here. It's up to us that read those interviews to not ruin it for others. The spoiler tag works great.

And, my good Lord, we are back to where we started and my not liking the Chantry affiliation at all.

Probably, the location of said breach, however, and who all were involved I think went too far. But, it was my fault for reading it I suppose.

Telling us that Cassandra had a hand in creating the inquisitor is a big spoiler for me.

All our characters are going to have a big hand in creating the Inquisition though.

@ames4u He's quoting zapp brannigan from Futurama. It's a joke.

For the thread, the chantry will have 0 control over you, even if it was started by Casandra, you become the leader. Your word is law at that point from what we know from the devs. YOU decide. They've also stated that not every companion will follow you until the end of the game based on your decisions. Supposedly Cullen in the group shot doesn't even have a Templar crest any more. There's also that whole end to the trailer of "Whatever we were before, we are now the Inquisition" which could easily suggest that many of the companions are putting aside their old affiliations, at least for now, to deal with the problem at hand. Really don't think there's anything to worry about here.

Given the original Inquisition predates the Chantry as it's known today, perhaps the Mages and the Templars renouncing the Nevarran Accords triggered some clause that makes the Inquisition its own entity again

It sounded more to me like the clause was something the Chantry could use to create an order with power that supersedes the Templars/Seekers in order to combat a particular threat. Or a power granted to an individual outside the Chantry to combat a particular threat. Whether it's meant to be autonomous or that's simply a side effect of the current state of Chantry leadership, we have no idea.

If you're hoping to play a game where you don't oppose or ally with anyone, then yeah, I would jettison those expectations.

Personally, I don't trust anyone professing to neutrality. With enemies, you know where you stand, but with neutrals? Who knows! It sickens me.

Thankfully for you, neutrals will be indifferent to your disgust.

If you act as though you know the plot of a game before it is finished, you're gonna have a bad time.

that is the lesson I am learning from all of you right now.

Well, that's why I slipped in "initial"

Huh, I didn't think that part was a spoiler at all.  With the way DA2 ended, and the way she's portrayed in the trailers, I thought it was obvious that Cassandra would have to be actively and directly involved in this game.

I would find it interesting if you could choose between leading the Inquisition... or deferring to Cassandra's leadership.

What makes a man turn neutral anyway? Lust for gold? Power?! Or were they just born with a heart full of neutrality?

For me it was a spoiler and a big one as it signifies that Cassandra will be part of the team and we have no say about it. I wish we had the option to pick witch side to follow and tell Cassandra to get lost.
We also know that one of the reasons the Inquisitor is picked is because of the power the Inquisitor possesses to close the tear so basically we know the beginning of the plot.
It is not hard to imagine how the game progresses after that.

So now you know the entire story, hm?  Well that's a damn shame for you then  ;)

Futurama references always get the Likes, especially if they involve the Zapper.

You can figure out the rest of the game by knowing that (DAI interview spoiler, in case someone missed the previous posts)

Yes I can and so can many others.
Apart for the mystery on who is behind this (and i have ideas already)we know approximately how the game will go.

Don't read articles about a plot heavy game that is six months from release, and you'll have less anxiety about said games, and fewer spoilers to boot.  Win/Win.

Inquisition is older than the Chantry. It's from an age when there was ZERO control over Mages/training of mages outside of the Imperial elite, and demons ran amok all over the place, wiping out villages and murdering hundreds of people.

If anything it was an anti-demon organization, eventually evolving into the Templars-  This is referenced when a certain Templar in DA2 states the original purpose of the Templars was not to lock up mages, but to stand side by side with them against the enemies of all who live - demons.

So if anything, you're going back to the roots - you're against demons first and foremost, like the Wardens and their blight.

If you're concerned about DAI spoilers, I'd recommend doing what I do and effectively blacking yourself off from the game at this point.  For example, I no longer read up on Pillars of Eternity since I know I will get that game, and unless I hear some general buzz that the game is completely trash (which I doubt) the advantages of following up on the game at this point are heavily outweighed by the disadvantages that gameplay and plot spoilers could provide.

The only games I tend to follow through on until release are strategy games since there's not much for spoilers in games like that.

Then PM me with how do you think the game will go. I'll personally see how right you are.
