This will be my first topic on this page. I only joined yesterday, but i have already had alot of fun reading and participating in the different threads here. You all seem like lovely people :)

For a while now i've been thinking about if there would be any major deaths in DA:I. And by major deaths i mean deaths that are bound to happen no matter what, ala Mordin and Thane in ME3. Or Leandra in DA2. Not possible deaths (though we could discuss that as well)

After the Inquisition followers were all shown in the last trailer i've been thinking about it even more, and so i thought we could muse on the possibilities.

Now since Thedas has pretty much gone completely to **** by the time of the game, i think it's safe to assume a few major people might die. Will it be people from the books? The previous games? Some of our Inquisition companions? I have no idea.

While i already love pretty much all of the companions, and would rather none of them die, i have pictured the Iron Bull (I'm so sorry everyone) several times sacrificing himself to save the Inquisitor, or something along those lines. Maybe taking like 7 arrows before going down. Kind of ala Grunt in ME3 (Although Grunt could survive that depending on loyalty.)

So what are your thoughts? I apologize for quite a long post. And if this has been posted before, remember that i only joined yesterday ;)

English is my second language, be gentle senpai

One of the ME3 people you mention can live.

It seems like there could be a bit of a culling of book characters right at the start, in the explosion that starts off events.

I think we will see a lot of deaths at the very beginning of the game (of characters we know, not just 'important people' we don't know personally). From what we hear, it appears like most of the characters from Asunder will die, since they are in the Circle, and the peace conference at the beginning of DA:I is between the mages and Chantry.

That's a cool death for Iron Bull, but I don't know. Killing companions? Unless it is at the very end of the game and based on your choices (like in DA2), I don't see that working really well.

Agreed. Some of the companions will most likely be able to die, but you're right that it's not likely to be a canon thing.

Perhaps some big characters outside of the companions.

That takes the players action and control out. It would be like watching a movie. I rather not play a game where everything is happening and i have no control of it.

Since there's apparently a strong possibility that The Warden and Hawke will show up as more than just cameos, i'm wondering if the writers would take that opportunity to get rid of them definitively.

I wouldn't doubt it, but it just depends how well it's done. Most every major chaaracter so far can already have died or appeared to die already, though. DA's been different that way. Personally, I prefer deaths to result from narrative branching rather than be set in stone, but with the dramatic flair of Thane's. (Mordin can live btw.) I know it's asking a lot. But I still prefer choice and consequence to factor in somewhere. If it's done well, I still appreciate a good dramatic scene for its own sake though.

Having a huge dragon immediately swallow The Warden as soon as he/she shows up would definitely solve the problem of having to give the warden a voice, lol

All the older women will die:

Marethari, dead

Elthina, dead

Wynne, dead

Meredith, dead

Branka, dead

Leandra, dead

So I'd say Justinia and Celene are in great danger.

I don't think Gaider would kill Flemeth though.

I reeealy wouldn't like that. lol Or any major character getting a cheap death. That goes for game characters dying in other media too. I'd like to at least see it show up in a good cutscene in that case. But I hope we get to talk to our Wardens. I hope they don't kill the Warden without our choice, or at least not to avoid the hard parts of using them right as npcs. I hope they remain involved in our different DA worlds in ways we can influence.

Yea, i was mostly joking. It's gonna be interesting how they handle the voice for The Warden though, if we're to have a convo with him.

I'm not a fan of forced death especially of a character I've put a lot into building up and I don't mean the PC. In one of the valkyrie profile games I'd leveled Rose up to level 78 at a time she'd be less then 50. Then she got taken away from me. Suffice to say after putting all that time and effort into her I nearly quit the game right there.I don't like feeling as if my effort was wasted.

Then there is the issue of making the death look right. You've carefully picked the characters skills and traits as well as put a lot of effort into their armor. They're a monster second only to the PC. Then one of the nothings you've slaughtered who knows how many times before comes along and kills them. It can be even worse when you then fight that said nothing that beat them like it was child's play.

I'm guess there'll be two or three possible companion deaths on the table. Every non-companion friendly NPC is fair game two. I doubt Bioware would kill off Leliana, Cullen maybe(But he's an LI, so that makes it unlikely), so maybe scribbles?

I would mention Celene and Gaspard, but I expect we're to choose between them.

I think it's pretty obvious that atleast one of the major choices is to support either Celene or Gaspard. We probably get to choose if we want to execute the other, or banish them (or something like that)

If I'm able to romance Cassandra, I expect she'll die horribly at some point.

Otherwise, I'm going with the Grey Warden.

I'm planning on romancing Cassandra as well, if she dies i'll be sad :(

The grey warden seems pretty old too. If he doesn't die in battle, he might go to his calling at some point during the game?

I have this feeling Anders (if not already dead) will die in the beginning of the game. Not even sure why, but I do... Maybe Hawke's sibling as well (again, if not already dead)...

I just hope Morrigan, Morrigan's kid, Merrill, Fenris and DHMG don't die...

I definitely think that's a possible outcome in the ending. I hope it's not set in stone though.

Why would you care whether a character you don't even know the name of dies or not?

Probably getting ahead of myself indeed, but so far I like DHMG (probably named Dorian but I like calling him DHMG) best out of the companions...

If you mean Morrigan's kid, it's cause I care about Morrigan. And some of my wardens are that kid's dad.
