One of the things we've seen often in the other Bioware games is a main character who is at the whim of political tides. They sort of meander their way around and basically stomp into the ground anyone who happens to be in their way. I confess I've always wondered what it would be like to play a Chessmaster type who excels at manipulating the political currents in order to achieve their objectives. The closest we've ever really gotten was the Landsmeet section of DA:O.
We know by this point that your Inquisition will have three arms: Military (Cullen), Espionage (Leliana), and Political (Scribbles). We know there will be various factions vying for resources and power, and that we will influence them using these three arms. My question for us to look at today is: How deep and/or complex will this system be?
Will we, for instance, be able to use our espionage arm to collect incriminating information on a given lord, then use our political arm to extract troops for our military using said info? Or, will it be more along the lines of a particular challenge comes up and we merely have to decide which arm we will use to tackle it? Or, perhaps least appealing, will it be a rehash of the War Assets mechanic?
We haven't gotten much information on this mechanic thus far, but I personally find it the most intriguing feature of the game. I'm sure they intend to release more info on how it works, but I thought since this board is nothing if not for speculation, we might have a topic dedicated to speculating until concrete info does arise. This topic might double as a gathering place for what concrete info we do have.
