"-you?"

A young elven girl, competent and powerful, but unsure of herself nonetheless, and obsessed with saving her people.  And with an interest in claiming the eluvians.

I think Merrill's gone full-on dark side in the intervening years, or been possessed at the least, and she's the one that killed Felassan.

It's definitely someone we know, because that quote is just heavy with import and teasery.  Either an old companion gone bad, or a big bad we've already encountered.  No way it's some random magister or darkspawn.

I don't think the entity in the fade was Merrill, but this post made me make a horrified face at the idea

I think only somniari become tranquil if killed in the Fade. On the quest to free Feynriel, the companions Hawke kills just wake up. Even the mages. Only Feynriel can be rendered tranquil.

On the other hand, we also know that somniari can kill people through the Fade (Feynriel does it if he goes to Tevinter), so that's probably closer to what happened.

At any rate, it's pretty clear that Felassan expected to die in the physical world. He explicitly takes down his camp's defenses. My money's on him being 100% dead.

Felassan is Somniari, at least kind of, since he requires no lyrium to enter the fade. They even remark on this when Briala and he enter the Dalish camp.

I think he's probably really rather dead.

Which is a shame, I love seeing Expanded Universe characters put into the games (just seeing Utha from The Calling in Awakening got me all a flutter).

But twould seem he was killed in the Fade by someone who may or may not be the Big Bad of Inquisition, for failing to bring them the 'key' (a phrase) for entering/making use of the Eluvian network.

However Keeper Marethari said that if we killed Feynriel in the Fade, he would become akin to the Tranquil.  While Marethari's knowledge about a lot of stuff is questionable at best, she was right.  If you kill Feynriel during Night Terrors, he becomes a Tranquil.  So if this whoevertheyare killed Felassan in the Fade, he might be Tranquil now.

Mind you we don't know if Magister Aurelian Titus (from the comics) died or was made Tranquil when Maric killed him in the Fade... he's presumably dead, but I don't think we ever see a body (the last time he was seen prior to entering the Fade was when he was leading the charge against the invading Qunari outside of his Seheron fortress, Ath Velanis).

Who know's, I guess.

Anyone else think that the silent figure Felassan was working for (and I know this is going to sound ridiculously far fetched and is highly unlikely, but the fun is in the speculation  :P ) could be... the Warden?

Think about it, he/she never talks. Has been missing for some time, living in the fade would certainly explain that. What if the Warden is working for Flemeth? The veil tear could all be part of some larger plan, the veil tear certainly seems to have lead to an increase in dragon activity, or just an increase in the number of dragons in general.

I don't think they would introduce a completely new character in such away (never revealing who they are, or even having the character speak,) so I definitely think it's somebody we've met before in the series, not someone we would expect to be a villain (or at least appears to be a villain.  ;) )

As I said, this is just speculation and the idea is really out there, but I think it would be a very interesting development and an unexpected way to bring the Warden back..

That actually could make some sense depending on how Bioware did it. For example if my Warden killed (attempted to kill) Flemeth why is he now helping her? Ditto for if we are working for Morrigan. Or if our Warden is dead...

The whole not revealing thing could also work for an aspect of an Old God (say Dumat) or Fen'Harel (<- seems to be the most popular assumption thus far), because even though they are technically new characters they are characters we know something about.

An old god would be good, but surely it would be an enormous dragon, unless there's a lot more to them than what we already know about?

I'm not really sure about the Fen'Harel idea. I love the idea of the character, it reminds me so much of Loki. (the proper norse god, not the marvel version) The reason i'm not too fond of this idea is it would either prove that the Elven religion is all true, thus removing any ambiguity from the other religions. Or it could prove that the Elven religion is wrong (If they made Fen'Harel just a really powerful spirit/demon/ancient elf or something.)

I'd much rather they kept us all in the dark as to whether there's any truth to the various religions of thedas or not. I find it makes the world so much more interesting.

I must admit, the more I think about it, the more I think the slayer of Felassen could be Morrigan.   After all she is definitely interested in Eluvians and would jump at the chance to get the key to them all.   May be that is why she originally went to Orlais, because she had heard rumours that the centre of the network was there.    She could have been the source of a lot of the information that Felassen was passing on to Briala and would not have been pleased if he double crossed her.

If it were not her, then it has to be the main protagonist in Inquisition and thus likely a character that we have not yet been introduced to but will be seeing a lot more of in the game.    Otherwise I can't see the reason for keeping the reader in the dark about his killer.

Did you mean antagonist? Because the protagonist is the Inquisitor....

And yea, I think his killer is "the puppet master," the person behind the fade tears. And so far the best theory I've heard is that its Fen'harel.

I really don't like the Fen'harel theory. Among other reasons, bringing the gods into it takes away from the ambiguity of the setting's mythology, which I believe is one of DA's strongest attributes.

Not necessarily. They can do it right without revealing every detail. If we only see/hear about Fen'Harel as a Fade Entity then that isn't revealing much. He could be a spirit, he could be a god, he could be a sleeping ancient elven Somniari. All it would really say is that someone calling themselves Fen'Harel exists, hardly conclussive proof that the elves have it right (and even if they did have it right, that doesn't preclude others being right as well).

What I find most compelling about the Solas is Felassan theory is the war room art. In said picture everyone is freaking the **** out reacting to the inquisitors action while the male elf (who I assume is Solas) just has an amused wry smile. That is Felassan to the proverbial tee.
