So I know we are all sort of like "Wha?" when we noticed the Inquisition fighting the wardens in Fires Above. Then were like "WHAT?!?!" when we saw more of this in the recent trailer.

Here's a possible reason or two as to why:

tumblr_n4iqhsFJ7t1qghomuo1_500.png

See this type of architecture the dragon is landing on? The warden keep. Remember it.

Notice we fight the behemoth.

tumblr_n4iqhsFJ7t1qghomuo2_400.png

Now notice where we are fighting him:

tumblr_n4iqhsFJ7t1qghomuo7_1280.png

THE WARDEN KEEP
(unless all keeps have similar architecture with griffon statues, then all bets are off)

So how are the wardens connected to red lyrium powered Templars?

Possible connection: Red Lyrium is found in the deep roads. Wardens often hang out in the deep roads

Important additional points:
-lyrium is a required ingredient for the joining ritual
-Red lyrium could possibly be used as well...
-Nathaniel How was on a mission to explore the red lyrium thaig found by Hawke  for "secret warden business

So the wardens could either by supplying the red Templars, be corrupted like them, or both.

DISCUSS!!! :kissing:

Because of Plot related reasons we will likely know nothing about until game release.Save what Last Flight may tell us.

On a more serious not. Likely heavily ties into what happened during DA2, even without Legacy those guys were clearly up to something.

Wardens are a "whatever it takes" bunch and not a whole lot of oversight

Hawke fights some in Legacy

I'm not surprised there are some more "bad eggs" (depending on your views)

It's most likely because of a conflict of interests. Wardens only care about the Darkspawn, Inquisition only about demons and magic. Maybe we are bullying them into giving us support and resources or they are doing something to stop Darkspawn but that something might also be hurting our cause. We can't know until the game gets released.

Either way, I don't bear any kinship with that order, my Warden is dead and so is any loyalty to it. Also tried of the whole "oooooh we're the Grey Wardens and we have secrets that we can't tell you" crap. They come in my way, I cut them down, simple as that.

I don't think the Inquisition, in it's new form, is only about Magic and Demons. The devs description of it seems like it's part Jedi-Order and part Crisis-Management, which the giant holes in reality being the most important crisis in the world right now.

Because I need that castle for something important... and you only need like, four wardens, to stop a Blight evidently.

The group seems highly overrated.

Also - I just KNOW they've got some gryphon eggs in that keep, and I wants 'em.

What else is it about? From all the interviews that I've seen, it seems like the Inquisition is just like the Grey Warden order which is being created in order to combat the dangers of Fade, as opposed to fighting the Darkspawn.

Right before the big meeting it is found out that the Wardens have secretly been causing the bights.  They have purposely saved darkspawn at the end of each blight so that they can repopulate.  They leak the location of an Old God when they start hitting hard times and not getting the respect they feel they are due.  It is all part of an elaborate plot to eventually rule the known world.

With this revealed it casts a cloud over your organization, after all if the great heroes who saved the world from all the bights are actually responsible for causing them - who should trust you?  Thus you have to wipe them out to show that you are better than they are.

that is totally true btw - I heard it from a guy who knows someone who once was in a mcdonalds with someone who went to the same high school as Mary Kirby's best friend's cousin's roomate.

We could be attacking them because Corypheus took over and is controlling the wardens!

It's interesting that a lot of people seem to think that the Wardens need something damning to cast a cloud over this organization.

Duncan murders Ser Jory... for no reason other than mad ritualistic tradition.  All for his fanatical devotion to what he "thinks" is the greater good.

Avernus turns a Keep into a demonic petting zoo because - research and advancement!  Another insane fanatic willing to hurt anyone and everyone for his own twisted "greater good".

The Wardens - as an organization - are psychopaths.  Even if "The Warden" is a moral person - he/she is separated by the real Warden organization for the length of his/her existence.

It kind of seems like the Wardens have their hands in a lot of shady places. The entire Legacy thing in DAII- not just that Corypheus was there and everything that implied, but that some of the Wardens were down with keeping him around for...whatever reason. Then you have the Architect. Whether he's alive in your game or not, the Wardens worked with him before (barely remembering the book) and might be doing so again (depending on your play through). Then there's whatever Nathaniel (be still my beating heart!) was up to down in the Deep Roads in DAII. Then you've got Avernus and whatever in the world his research was uncovering.

Anyway, what I'm getting at, is this is kind of a shadier lot than what we first might have thought playing DAO. I sort of think of the 'Wardens' in DAO as pseudo-Wardens. Your character (their leader in Ferelden), knew next to nothing about what the Wardens do besides amass an army and fight the blights. Alistair wasn't exactly a boon of information either.

I'm thinking we might be in for a surprise when it comes to what the 'established' Wardens have been/are up to. On that note, I'm really looking forward to the book in August.

Actually, they did add the events of Legacy to the official timeline, making it clear that Hawke attempted to kill Corypheus.  I'm pretty sure his hand is in this somewhere.  If we do have a boss fight with him, it'll be inside one of two possible Grey Wardens he possessed.  That's creepy and very cool.

Unless Corypheus is working for the Big bad I don't think it's him, otherwise the Grey Warden plot would be unconnected to the rest, which doesn't make sense when they've said that Big bad intentionally maniuplated just about everyone to get to this point. Or Corypheus is the big bad...and that doesn't work for a lot of reason.

Corypheus working for the Big Bad would make a lot of sense though.

Perhaps it's as simple as the Wardens hold a strategically valuable keep and won't give it up willingly.

That wouldn't explain the Red Lyrium Behemoth though.

I understand taking on the role of the inquisitor differs from the role of the Warden but where is your compassion for a character you played with for more than 40 hours with?! The Grey Wardens are needed and cutting them down just makes you sound as stupid as Loghain and all those assholes that thought they could defeat the blight and do it better than the Wardens.

Well the Red Templars are obviously bad guys but they could be seen as worthy allies to some. Maybe that is the case here, the Grey Wardens are helping the Red Templars because they believe the Red Templars can be used to stop the tear in the sky. Unknown to them Red Lyrium use is probably making the Veil Tears tear more since its been torn and we find that out but people can be so stubborn.

I find it hard to believe that Wardens would be helping any cause that doesn't have to do with the Blight/darkspawn in some way. It seems like they viewed anything not having to do with the Blights as inconsequential in comparison and thus, not their business. But who knows?

Personally I don't think the Wardens are stupid enough to look at the sky ripping opening and demons spilling out onto the world and just go "Ehh, not my problem." Unless there's something else up with them.
