So, we know quite a bit about some characters and hardly anything about others. The only character that I'm aware we've gotten information on the actual meeting with is Cassandra, who you'll meet right after the blast and who will initiate the creation of the Inquisition. I was wondering what everyone's early impressions were of the characters and their theories on how we'll meet them. There's also not really a thread for general discussion of all the companions that isn't slanted towards romance, so I thought that would be nice to have.

Some questions to consider--

-How do you think we'll meet everyone?
-What do you think their motivations for joining the Inquisition are?
-How do you see their personal arcs progressing?
-How do you think they'll mesh with you and the other companions?
-Who do you think your favorites and least favorites will be?

-------------------

My thoughts on probable companions from the trailer--

Cassandra - Seeker who's soldiers apparently find you after the blast. I would guess she's for taking things back to the way they were before Kirkwall, as far as the Chantry/Circles go. I don't see my PC getting along with her very well, probably the least of any companion. Her aggressive attitude in the trailer really rubs me the wrong way, too. I can see her being the one I bench the most. I'll still explore her dialog options and give her a chance to change my mind, though.

Varric - Legacy from DA2, last was seen traveling with Cassandra. Likely still is? We were best bros in DA2 and I predict that happening again. I can see him being in my party a lot. I really enjoy his banter. His motivations for joining? Varric strikes me as someone that just doesn't turn down an adventure, honestly. I hope Bianca is still alive and we can reunite them at some point in the game. That's my one major hope for his character.

Vivienne - Celene's court mage, pro-circle mage rep. She seems to have a very objectivist slant. I see her as being kind of a mirror version of Morrigan from DA:O, honestly. I think her motivations are basically the same (bettering her own position at any cost, but not necessarily with specific malicious intent) except she has a radically different background that puts her on the other side of the fence. I'm not pro-circle, but I think we could probably find other issues to connect on.

Solas - Elven apostate fade expert. Not much information on him. Maybe we'll find him in the Dales? I could see him being a part of the Eluvian plot. I'm really rooting for the "ancient elf" theories being true, because they sound very interesting, but I wouldn't be surprised if the truth isn't more simple. I could definitely see his plot relevance leaning on our trip to Arlathan, though. I tend to support elven issues, so I could see us getting along well.

Iron Bull - Not much information on him. Survey called him a merc leader, but this is up for change. He carries a Qunari designed sword, so I'd guess he's ex-Qunari, not born outside the Qun. Sounds like maybe a more hard edge, less classy version of Varric's sense of humor. I'm very interested to hear his views on the Qun. Not sure right now why he'd be interested in the Inquisition, so that'll be interesting to find out.

Sera - Survey said she was a bratty city elf that leads a group of thieves? Not much information on her. Maybe she's part of the city elf plot? Honestly, she seems like one of the biggest mysteries to me right now. I'd guess she has ties to Briala, maybe. I don't see us having any major clashes right now.

Beardy Warden - The tavern depicts him as having a good sense of humor and there's art of him apparently leaving the wardens over a hanging. I'm guessing he obviously ties into the corrupt warden plot, as we saw the Inquisition fighting wardens in the trailer. I'm definitely looking forward to hearing from a warden with likely inside knowledge of the order. I think he could be edging into his calling and we could see this as a part of his story. I think it's likely I'll get along with him, as I just get this feeling from him that he'll be pretty good natured and accepting of most faction views as long as they're not super extreme.

DHMG/possibly Dorian - I'm only assuming he's Dorian, so all this could be wrong. Survey called him a "brazen and clever" exiled magister that "delights in not being what you expect him to be". He apparently wants to rid Tevinter of corruption. I would guess he ties in with the Venatori plot, as they're the only link I know of, in game, to Tevinter. He's easily the one character I'm hoping for as an available option for m/m LIs. I know his character model is unchallenged, to me, as the most attractive male in the lineup. If his personality is anything like I expect, he'll be like the perfect LI. SO HOPING THIS HAPPENS.

Blond Rogue Guy/Cole - I'd guess he could have come to the blast if Rhys and Evangeline were there, or if he was planning to use a possessed Lambert to aid the mage cause. Otherwise, I'd guess he's still in the White Spire and we'll find him there. I was super happy to see him at the war table, as I thought either he or DHMG had likely been cut and they're my two favorite concepts. I can't wait to start interacting with Cole and unraveling what he is and why he is the way he is. I can see him being in my party near constantly on my first playthrough. I'm interested in hearing all his possible banter and I feel like he's one of the ones my character is most likely to form a strong bond with.

Another thing, I never get that immediate "murder knife" reaction that some people do. Basically the only way I would kill a companion or let them die is if I had to make a choice between two or I had to make a decision that literally reversed the tone of my playthrough, like I had to pick x-faction over y-faction to keep them and I didn't want to do that. I just like seeing all the content and I don't mind some tension from contrary companions.

Wait, we have to wait an hour to create our character???!!! That's dumb and hurts character immersion. But anyways, I think we'll meet Varric after going to the camp at 1:02 in the trailer. We'll see him fighting, help him, he says his line and companion. Then we'll see Viv at a circle or in a city. Then we'll get Sera in the city since she is probably tied to the city elf plot. Solas in the dales and The Grey Warden when we seiged the Warden Keep. Don't know about everyone else. As in like and dislike, I know I will like Cass and Varric, Vivienne, Sera and the Grey Warden. I'll probably dislike Dorian, Solas, and definitely Cole!

I think we're on the same wave-length, Mort lol. I see Iron Bull as having that rogue sarcastic humour, where you're not sure if you should laugh or be worried. I also saw Sera as being quite the comedian, based on her tavern concept art.

Cole so far is my most anticipated character. I'm trying to rush through The Calling so I can strt reading Asunder, to get more info on him. (Not sure if you saw my post in the L.I thread, but Cole would be my m/m pairing lol)

'Dorian' strikes me as interesting too. If he's as Dramatic, Handsy and Moustachey (was seeing quite a lack of 'tash in the new trailer) as his concept art, I think i'll like him jusssst fine lol

Vivienne will also take place in my interests if she's super sassy and up-herself (like her bio hints at)
