Tevinter doesn't want to destroy the world. Tevinter wants to rule the world. Big difference.

Ok i will tell that only once tevinter want power they also are mages and that = seeking power in destructive way as magisters did not mention other disasters for revenge , love or any other reasons...

 

Orlais won't destroy world even in their power hunger because they can't and don't want to when magister can and will to because they have tools to do that even if they have different goals like reaching power or to rule the world... that was reason behind blight not destruction of the world but still it brought it...

It sucks for everyone sane on the plant if isane guy tries to blow entire world just reach power... i doubt that even sane mages would be happy with it

Considering that the Qunari were so successful (requiring all of Thedas to fight them to a standstill & even then they stopped fighting for a humanitarian reason) against magisters & Circle mages alike despite their lack of magic in their forces, I'm pretty sure that the magisters have far less power than you imagine.

I'm unclear on the debate here.  Mages exist.  Arguing that the are dangerous or the most dangerous, or the cause of all the world's ills, seems irrelevant unless we are discussing what should be done.  If that is the discussion then I posit that the focus should not be "What should be done with mages?" but "What should be done about the world?"  Structured in that frame mages are not the problem or exempted from from the world's population, but part of the solution and a stakeholder as well.

Well giving that tevinter was in very good terms with ancient dwarves and we can encounter phylacteries with demons , contained pride demon on the deep roads , and army of harvesters done by tevinter magister and dwarves it is higly likely another reason my be red lyrium but still not done by non-mages.

Which is why I said a lot and not 90% as you declared. I do not believe the credibility of that number, not at this time. I've a feeling that there aren't that many mages to begin with in such a Spencer like culture.

lot doesn't mean majority as i said 90 % need to do that even if they don't like it just for sake survival and their well-being because as i said you need power and blood magic as i said is open secret... as fenris said everyone who don't use blood magic can cry how powerless they are so in such society like tevinter they probably end as slaves.
