DA:O had the different Origins and DA2 had Lothering/entering Kirkwall, and I'm wondering if we'll get a similar opening in Inquisition, a playable sequence preceding the start of the main plot. It would be nice if we were able to explore and take part in the events leading up to and during this "explosion" that leads to us forming the Inquisition, as opposed to a cinematic or some such. While all descriptions so far seem to be lacking any mention of tangible enemies surrounding this explosion, Cassandra states that her soldiers saw the Inquisitor "walk out of the fade". SInce we have nothing but speculation at this point on what happens to the PC in there, it is possible that he/she would have some enemies to fight. Plus, a fade-centric prologue would be pretty amazeballs: I loved the mage origin.
I'm also hoping for this because it's been mentioned that the leaders of both the Chantry and mage rebellion (which a lot of forumgoers interpret to be Justinia and Fiona) die in this explosion. If this were true, it would be a shame for two such important supporting characters to be killed off before we get a chance to interact with them in-game. I'm personally hoping that Fiona is not the leader mentioned, as there are still some mysteries involving her character that I would like to be resolved. Plus, I just like her.
Does anyone feel the same way? Getting a feel for a game before the real meat of the story begins whilst becoming attached to some temporary-soon-to-be-killed companions?
Playable prologue? (spoilers)

Well the devs have said that our conversation choices will fill in our background.
Not sure if that's just in a convo with Cassandra, or something earlier.
I'd like to see that though, would be interesting.

The devs have said we won't have playable ORIGINS, but being able to play before the Breach opens would be welcome.
(Not to mention it would debunk theories about the inquisitor coming from the fade and being a Spirit/Demon/OGB all this time)

I thought our background was based on our race (or possibly class if you're a mage)?

I don't think we'll be a spirit or demon (OGB is pure ridiculousness), but I'd be very surprised if we weren't technically an abomination to the same degree as Wynne/Evangeline. I'm just hoping that we aren't killed in the beginning with whatever happens in the Fade keeping us alive.

From there we'll likely start playing and have a few hours before we become the inquisitors to fill in our background stuff, our motivations and concerns, where we stand on certain things like some people think we're sent by the maker in which you can agree with them, say no, or tell them what the hell are you talking about amoung other things.
It is but the stuff people are talking about is during the time before you become the inquisitor. When we pick our race and class we'll get a mass effect style background (paragraphs of information) that tells you where you come from, your background changes the opening sequence somewhat.I thought our background was based on our race (or possibly class if you're a mage)?
Each race has its own reason for being at the opening sequence which will varry a bit due to our classes, during the first few hours we can fill in stuff about our background, how we relate to it, our concerns, motivations, views, probably family history etc since Laidlaw and Luke K confirmed that we do have a degree of choice and oxm also said this which is one of the few thing's they actually got right.

I hope you create your character before the game starts like in DA:O and then play the prologue for an 30 minutes and then BOOM! Veil tear and the plot unfolds.

I hope we get to play around a little before the tear explosion to create our Inquistor's background and meet some of the big players in the war and figure out why we are at the peace talks before the boom.

Yeah one thing I'd like to do is get the character creator out of the way before anything else happens in the game.

I picture something like Duncan's origins narration.
Duncan: You are bas, a qunari born outside of the qun, and you have come to a peace conference because of reasons.

Replace the word Bas with Vashoth and you are correct.

I imagine we'll get something. We need the usual obligatory prologue companion who inevitably dies, after all.

I'm not sure that's true. Qunari don't distinguish races much, so I wouldn't think that an oxeman born outside the qun would be any different than an elf or dwarf born outside the qun.

Chargen starts immediately after hitting "New Game" and at this point I would not expect that to change.

I've read that, I've heard other users say that. It just doesn't make sense to me. Isn't the wiki fan-edited?
There's bound to be confirmation either way in the game.
from Gaidar:
Mary tells me that the PC would technically just be Vashoth. Either way, it's a distinction that's only going to be relevant to the Qunari themselves. Everyone else will simply say "Qunari", no matter where you were born.

Good to know. That was something that bugged me a bit about DA2. It was strange seeing the default Hawke in Varric's tall tale version of escaping the Blight. At least in ME2, Shepard wore a helmet for the entire sequence.

God I hated the ME 2 intro sequence. You had to go through that entire thing only to find out that you messed up something during the CC.....
I'm glad to hear there will be a CC before anything else.

It wouldn't really debunk it, and i can tell how (oh how fun this is)
Keeping that in mind, you could create your character in the beginning, have that segment before the blast and interact with various characters and then...BOOOM! and you find yourself perfectly fine without the knowledge of how you survived the blast.
nothing says you can't be an entity born out of this event with the memories and background of the person you created and died.
yay for speculations ![]()

This is excellent news.
As interesting as the openings of DA2 and ME2 were, needing to sit through the prologues again if I messed up the chargen was incredibly frustrating.

tbh I rather hope the Fade part is not the Prologue,I'd much rather would have the Inquisitor wake up alone and stumble around a bit until found by Cassandra and her men...and then later, slowly regain his/her memory of what happenend in the Fade.
Or the Prologue beginning pre-Fade part with the events leading up to it and then skipping the Fade and (see above).
It would just be very annoying to me if I as the player knew what went down in the Fade (even if I might not have explanantions for everything or something) and my Character can't remember it.
Also, how good an introduction would a scene in the Fade really be? from the quick glimpses we got in the trailers and from how it was in da:o it tends to look different than the real world more often than not....(and even the MAge origin in DA:O played largely outside of the Fade)

I have a feeling that you will start playing when you walk out of the fade and the stuff before that will be a cut scene (or something) that shows the events before the breach and the breach happening. I think they said that dialogue would explain why you were there based on your race and class.

So I won't even get to meet the people before they are killed? ![]()
