I've seen people saying it's a fairly good gun, and I like the idea of the gun, but I just don't get it.  Mine is at level 6, so it should be looking fairly decent by now.

I get that it's a headshot weapon, which means it will be better for mooks than for bosses, but even for that it seems impractical.  I used it on the Quarksman, and even with marksman active, it was't accurate enough to score reliable headshots past the closer end of mid-range.  It weighs a lot, so taking a secondary weapon can become an issue, but it takes forever to kill bosses, so you really want a secondary weapon.  It burns through ammo fast by itself, let alone if you forget to time MM/AR right.  Not to mention it's about as easy on the finger as the Mattock.

Should I be putting a scope on it?  If so, it would be the only weapon other than the Talon that I would put a scope on.

Scope helps, but I don't actually run it on this one.

Most of the time if I am using the Valkyrie I just use it on the Human Soldier under Adrenaline Rush.  Just stay from close to mid range and the accuracy isn't a big deal.  It does a lot of headshot damage, so prioritize the mooks.

Valkyrie really doesn't weigh all that much (1.5-1.25).  So you certainly can take a backup.  CSMG might make some sense.

Run it with the extended mag, the extended barrel and AP ammo.

I have only found a few kits that I really like it on.  The GE is my favorite and I spec it like this

You do have to be consistent with headshots to make it work, but that is an easy introduction to the weapon.  Don't try to fire as fast as possible either.  Take a little more time to place your shots and it will shine for its intended purpose as mook killer.  Using AP or drill ammo also helps with double/triple hits on bosses.

Weight and clip size are it's advantage over the Harrier.

I've been using it on the AA, for which it's pretty good. Don't think I would use it on a soldier class though.

what your describing is why I don't really like the gun that much...

the argus need the scope and the recoil dampener to make it pinpoint accurate for all 3 shots, and does fantastic damage.
the vindicator needs the recoil dampener and to be in cover to make it pinpoint accurate for all 3 shots, giving you a spare mod slot to play with.
but the Valkyrie needs both the accuracy boost from a scope and the recoil dampener to make is pinpoint accurate,
so why not just take the argus for damage or vindicator for weight?
anybody?

Just did one of Prestacious' duos where this was one of the required weapons on a Human Soldier, and Velanna really made it shine. Maybe she can shed some light on it for you.

To make it shine, you really just have to get the headshots. Marksman helps, but not that much.

I was never enamored of the gun.

this was my first Rare AR that I got and I used it LOT.. moving from a Mattock to this was seamless for me.. but after a few games my fingers cramp.

The human soldier is a good fit for the valkyrie, as long as you are comfortable with using a scope on it.

I wonder if Frost's build is anything like mine:http://kalence.drupa...!63Z57313!D.8AG

Ari saw me use it the first time we met, and its literally the only time I've ever managed to keep up with her.

If that doesn't prove it's effectiveness, I'm damned if I know what would.

Effective, yes. It's even quite good relative to the whole gun pool, being significantly better than most/any of the gold ARs. It's also disappointing and not particularly worth using over the other UR options.

I was talking more about the effectiveness of the build as a whole than just the performance of the Valkyrie BTW. :P

From a min/man perspective, I'm inclined to agree with you.  It's inferior to the sabre when used standalone for example.

It's mediocrity against bosses is what holds it back, that's why I pair it to the hurricane without shame.

One's too heavy for it's role as a mook-slayer, the other's too good at killing bosses for it's weight.  Pairing them balances it out.

Still, I enjoy the Valkyrie more than many other UR's, including the sabre.  Fun factor counts for a lot IMO.

This OP is a pretty nice summary of my opinion on the Valkyrie. It's a headshot gun that can't land headshots at long range, in other words, it's a Saber that sucks.

I do use it sometimes, mostly for hipster points.

I usually use it on the TSol and it works quite well but then again what doesn't. I usually run it with barrel, mag, and armor piercing ammo on him.

Using it on the human soldier for one of the solos in Prestacious's thread wasn't bad either. Pretty sure I used barrel, piercing, and disrupter in that case.

You don't need the scope

I use it on the Turian Sentinel or the Geth Engineer

if you aren't constantly hitting 20 headshots by wave 6 at the latest you should probably be using something else

I got a Valkyrie in my welcome pack on 2 accounts - that store really does like to troll me!  I also kept leveling up the one on my main a/c before unlocking many other guns.  It got stuck at 9 for a while but I'm relieved to say it's finally maxed, so at least I won't have to endure anymore meaningless upgrades.  I'm pretty sure I'm no better with it at level X and I was at level I.  TSol and Quarksman are the only characters I can be in any way effective with using it, but I'll give the HSol a go after reading the tips. (Edit: and your suggestions Cronshaw)

I suspect it takes a truly skillful player to make the most of it and enjoy themselves while doing so. I fear I'm not that player.

GE is the only way I have ever found to really like the gun too.  It's a headshot gun that isn't really accurate enough for double-headshots.  Hunter Mode helps with the accuracy thing.

These work nicely too.  I've currently got these guys making the incisor and the krysae enjoyable, but they've both done good work for me with the Valkyrie before too.

I wish this were true, I'd like to be mistakenly classed as skilful.

It's surprisingly forgiving once you get a feel for it, if you do miss the head you have a decent chance to stagger the enemy with a bodyshot, and the gap between bursts is just right to fine-tune your aim to take advantage.

Aiming slightly low can be useful too, put the first round in the mouth and the second between the eyes.  Easier said than done though, obviously.

Heh, thanks for the introduction :P

To be honest though I'm not sure what I can really say, I've never understood why a lot of people have so much trouble with it. Just aim at the head and keep firing, that's pretty much all there is to it :?

It may not be pinpoint accurate, but it's as accurate as you'll ever really need in a game like this and at short or mid range you should easily be able to score headshots with both shots.

Anyway, this is the build I was using in the aforementioned duo if anyone is interested.

TSol - I find the Turian Passives and Marksmanship actually help a fair amount; the delay between bursts is noticeably shorter with MM. Best against Collectors with their big, gigantic heads as you can consistently land double headshots - and that's about the only way to make the gun shine.

If you're having accuracy issues with it.. the answer is:

DUN DUN DUN

Hard Cover.

It's only needed for longer ranges though..

Thanks guys.  I intend to stick with it for a while to see if I can get the hang of it.  What would you say would be the best mod combination for it on gold for the Quarksman?  I do have ammo issues with it, so thermal clip would be nice, but piercing/extended barrel would help with boss killing, and a scope might be nice to boost the accuracy.
