Indeed. Keep in mind that the gaming medium has evolved through-out the years. It's not just BioWare, but games have come to help many people cope with life's difficulties.

It wasn't so much for me, but when my mother had a pretty rough spot I played tons of games for her. Demon's Souls, Uncharted, L.A Noire, and her favourite... The ME trilogy. It helped her tons to just watch the story flow, or just enjoy the gameplay. Especially when it came to Demon's Souls and I had to fight some pretty rough bosses. ****, I even showed her a trick to grind and when I came back home I have 200,000 souls or more.

Anyway, I'd just like to say that BioWare and the rest of the medium can do amazing things. Games can do amazing things, and it saddens me that there are still people out there who haven't touch a game since Pac Man and insist its a terrible medium meant for the dumbing of generations.

Well yeah?

GO PLAY PLANESCAPE: TORMENT YA **** XD

P.S And a very special thanks to BioWare whilst I'm at it. If it weren't for DA:O I wouldn't have gotten into RPGs. I was mainly a casual gamer back then, toying with this and that but never getting serious. I don't care what it does for most people but games have coloured my life greatly.

Be more elaborate, please. Many people are not comfortable telling the truth and feed themselves with lies and fake realities. I am not one of those people. I use video games as a form of entertainment, not a sole reason for existing.

Any form of media can have an impact on a person. Reading a book, watching a movie, reading an article,  playing a game, etc... can deliver a message or hit a chord in a person that inspires them to keep going.

If someone finds comfort in an object, no matter what it is, I don't think its your place to judge given that it doesn't even harm anyone.

Also, sometimes if you have nothing nice to say, it's better to stay quiet. This is one of those times. Way to be judgmental about someone you barely know.

Hmm... I discovered DAO around the second deep pit of despair I found myself in during college.

I can't say it did much for me aside from being an entertaining diversion (and lead me here), but I'm glad for the people it was able to help in such a profound way.

Exactly. As she said, its her escape, do you how many people on this site can agree with that. An escape from reality is what many people crave and try to find, some people find it in alcohol or drugs, why not find that in fantasy and story telling? To judge someone you dont know based on your own narrow minded perception on how someone "should" handle life's issues is plain arrogance.

Why go on a thread full of positive support and an overall great attitude, just to impose this false sense of superiority on how to handle someone elses emotions. Why say anything at all? Sadly, kindness is just not a trait found in all people but those who have that trait outnumber those who lack sympathy which can be seen on this thread

Video games can be played for different reasons. You play it for entertainment purposes.

Others(including myself) play it for an escape or way to cope. Please don't undermine why people play it as such :(

Bioware is an amazing company and it's great they interact with their fans.

These games saved my life when I was in a depressive hole where the only option I could see was ending it.

Mass Effect and Dragon Age made my life a whole lot better and less depressing. A great form of therapy.

(Seeing a Therapist helped as well)

So thank you Bioware!

For making a beautiful game that can touch people's heart and heal their wounds  ^_^

I don't know what the hate post said, but whoever posted it can go jump off a cliff.

Seriously, hating on someone because they're "too" passionate about something?

At the risk of getting my post removed as well: Go **** yourself.

Mine too, but it's in the interest of not derailing an otherwise great thread. I think the post got deleted too because I don't see it. Good changes.

True. Either way, I don't like that sort of thing... especially when it's aimed at a friend.

Wow, this seriously warmed my heart. Thank you so much for sharing my video and it makes me very happy to know that Bioware has helped others in the hardest of times as well. It reinforces my respect and love for them. They've always held a very special place in my heart. When my father passed away in 2001, Mass Effect was what really helped numb my brain. I'm so glad this topic was posted. And not just to share my video, but because Bioware needs to see how special their work is and just how grateful we are for it :)

I have gone back so many times to see your reaction video I've lost count. The amazement...the joy...the wonder you convey during the video speaks to all of us who have been patiently waiting for the next chapter in the Dragon Age saga to be revealed.

I think I speak for everyone here when I say I can't wait to hear all about your Inquisitor's adventures. Someone may want to tell Varric to keep his shirt on...he's gonna have a rival for 'best storyteller ever'!!   :)

A scorched earth policy on that stuff is cleansing. If you're like me, you didn't get a finger wagging message from the mod. I interpret that to mean that they understand but had to break it up. Let's get on with the happy.

Naw, I didn't. Wouldn't matter if it did, I'd take the necessary steps to get it lifted.

I love her enthusiasm  , her reactions made me smile and laugh because I'm pretty sure I did the same things when I first watched the trailer ^_^. Everyone has a thing or a hobby that helps them to unwind, entertain them, escape when they need to or that they are just plain passionate about. I hope things get better for her, she's a lovely girl and her videos show just how devoted and passionate she is about the games she loves (something I very much relate to).

I didn't remove it, but I'd say it was removed because the quoted text was the inappropriate stuff, and without the quoted text your post in general lacks context.

In other threads I often delete responses to inappropriate posts simply to bury all of the references to the inappropriate posts.  It looks like that happened here.  There is one quoted text that appears to still remain in other posts, though I can imagine those responses could have been left in because that specific quote is less hostile.  Had it been me I may have still removed them, I may not have... I play it by ear depending on the nature of the response.

There's no issues with supporting a friend, but letting your post stand without the quoted text would just be unusual to read and I would have concerns that it would just solicit more unfortunate responses.

Ah, that makes sense! I hadn't seen that the post I was responding to had been deleted at that point, so I apologise for getting stroppy, lol.

Since we're all sharing, I might as well go for it as well.

When my dad was diagnosed with cancer in 2004 he had trouble with the news but still kept on going like it was nothing. Which included one of his hobbies: video games. At some point he bought -  and you'll never believe it - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. He got it for me because I was such a Star Wars fan back then and he thought the game looked interesting.

Back then I was used to the typical hack & slash games like Prince of Persia, so Knights of the Old Republic was a complete new experience for me and I was really bad at it first :P So he decided to give the game a try at first and I never really bothered with it.

Then a year later when he died, I decided to give the game a try myself and found out that I was now experienced enough to atleast get past the Endar Spire. I loved the game so much that I kept playing until I finnished the game.

And thats how my actual first experience with Bioware began. Had my dad never bought me that game then who knows what would have happend :)

It's amazing the things that can give a person strength to get through trying times. When my dad had a heart attack and I didn't know for days if he had survived (thanks for calling mom!) I started a new play through of Dragon Age Origins and spent 4 days trying every decision, romance and ending I hadn't yet done. I didn't want to think about my dad or the crap my mom put him through just before it all went down. And when the phone did ring, after I was relieved of my greatest fear of his fate, dealing with my mom and her nonsense left me unfathomably angry. I couldn't deal with her so I continued to play DAO. For two months it was the one place I could "go" that didn't have my real life affecting it, where I was free to forget for a while. Dragon Age gave me something else to focus on when I wanted to drink myself stupid or go pick a fight at a bar. As a mom, this wasn't the example I wanted to set for my kids and it was selfish and dangerous. So I killed Darkspawn and the Archedemon on the highest difficulty setting there was. It was very cathartic. And eventually the anger and fear faded and life returned to a better hue.

Also, when one of my kids gets sick, they get to camp out on the couch while I play all night long. I check them every 15 minutes to ensure that fevers remain under control or to sneak drops of water into them since the time they're sleeping seems like the only time they can hold anything down. I'm armed with an arsenal of "potions" for stopping coughs, relieving pain and energy for me. ;) Dragon Age has been a big part of how I've gotten through some tough times when the hour was too ungodly to ask someone I knew to help. I'm sure I'd have found another way if it didn't exist but I wouldn't want to. Now that I've made some really amazing friends here on the boards, I'm quite certain I'd be at a loss if Dragon Age went away.

I'm sorry to hear about MD's mom. It's a scary thing. And I'm glad she has this... family, this... amazing/wonderful/quirky collection of people who share her passion and I'm glad she has found comfort in Dragon Age. *sigh* Getting teary just thinking about the end of her video. :crying:  I wish your mom a speedy recovery and decades more of health and vitality, MD.
