@ Alan09

At first no trouble when I first installed on my new laptop, correct artwork for the collector's edition showed up in the origins client and everything.  Got an update for the Origins Client and then it all went wacky after that.  The Origins Client as I said took away my ability to access the configuration utility, thus removing my access to my security key to determine if it was correct, this happened on DA2.  In accessing my security key I had to go to into my program files or my registery; I don't remember which one.   Somehow it damage the screen to acess the loading screen when the game first loads.  It totally messed this up.  Actually it completely disappeared.

I wasn't being clear .On your new laptop how did the Origin client even know you owned DAO, or that it was present on the machine? Don't you have to manually add pre-Origin games? Or did it look up your profile or something?

No, all I had to do was install the Origins Client from EA which I did, then allow the Origins Client to download my game, which I did and everything was fine.  The Origins Client got an update a few months back.  I did the update, then when I signed back into my games, they were totally messed up.  As I've stated several times, it took away my authorization for my games and the screen to access the configuration utility for DA2.

When I tried to reinstall again it took away my collectors edition, changed it to the digital deluxe.  I was actually playing the game when this update happened for the origins client.  I immediately contacted an ea rep and told them what happened.  They told me to uninstall the origins client and reinstall again, which I did.  The games downloaded again, and once again, no DLC.  This went on three or four times, this whole process.  Until I took the Origins Client completely off, installed from the disc again making sure my internet security was turned off during the install and everything has worked just fine since.

Every time I got a notice to update the origins client, it would mess up my game files and authorization.  It happens every blasted time.

I'll have this new laptop a year in September.

Can we still download both the Keep and DLC and use them offline for the Xbox360/One and PS3/4?

You'll have to be online when you create a new character if you want to use a created world state. (At least i heard the developers said that in the Keep thread, they might change that.)

EDIT: I just realized what you were asking, lol. It seems that you can't use the keep offline though.

This is very true and a quick google search will back that up.  It isn't just for a couple of games; it had problems with most modern PC games across the board.  I can't tell you how often I had to fight with that POS of an operating system with my games.  <_<

Switching OS' will help quite a bit and it looks like many games coming out won't be supporting Vista from here on out.  If you liked Windows XP, then Win 7 is a decent follow up.  And much more gamer friendly than Vista.

From first hand experience I fully concur.

The keep is a webpage/application that gives you a small file of your worldstate (according to what the keep thread says) for you to then add to the game.

That's all well and good, but I have an XP computer and have a family to take care of first. I was looking to upgrade to Vista with the idea of upgrading to win7 down the road or buying a win7 computer when funding was available. It just stinks because there are still games coming out that support vista and sometimes even xp still. Inquisition development began a while ago so I was hoping they'd at least support vista. Looks like I'll end up buying the game and sitting on it until I get a new pc. And no, I'm not buying a Xbox one or ps4.

But will DAI run on XP? That seems unlikely.

Such is my dilemma. I have XP and it's nice, but win7 is where it's at. I don't have money to get a win7 pc right now. It looked like a vista upgrade might be necessary, but that won't run DAI either, so what's the point? I hate Vista, but I'm running out of options. *sigh*

I am pretty sure that the only reason why they say Windows 7 is a requirement is that its the oldest operating system supported by Microsoft since they just dropped support for XP and Vista is a bloated mess that you are best skipping from my understanding is that Microsoft decided to support XP longer because Vista was so widely disliked.

Man, you should seriously consider stop using windows XP. If you do not have the money or the machine at this time to migrate to 7 or 8, at least switch to Ubuntu, or Linux. Otherwise, you´ll be extremely vulnerable.

"Ubuntu or Linux" is a misnomer, Ubuntu is a distro of the Linux kernel. I personally recommend the Mint or CentOS distros however.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I love these threads.  :)

Will Dragon Age: Inquisition for PC Windows require the Origin client: Yes.

Will Dragon Age: Inquisition for PC Windows require a permanent internet connection: No.

Will Dragon Age: Inquisition for PC Windows require a one-time activation through Origin via the internet (just like Mass Effect 3 PC): Yes.

Why is GameFly saying it requires a permanent connection: No idea.

Of course if you want to take advantage of certain DAI services you will need to have access to the internet, but not permanently. You may have heard about the Dragon Age Keep.

Nothing to see here. Please go about your regularly scheduled Monday and have a good one!

Damn, I was hoping I could get the physical copy so I WOULDN'T need to download Origin :[ A useless program to me just taking up space.

I don't think Origin is any worse than something like Steam but yet I see Origis receiving a lot of hostility over nothing most of the time. It shouldn't matter if you have to temporarily use Origin because after you have set up your world state you can completely turn it off anyway.

Yeah, I have no problems with Origin. Infact it takes up slightly less resources and has less startup time than Steam; but that could be because Steam has more options in the client.
