People could play ME3 without being online? It would never let me play my saves unless I was online due to the dlc. :/

Anyway, I really hope this isn't the case with DA:I, otherwise I'll pass.

I had to disable my network card or not be plugged into any network and then I could play Mass Effect 3 offline.

Yep and you can play Dragon Age: Origins on the PS4 as well... oh wait... nm.  Silly lack of backwards compatibility.

Like someone said above both have their strengths and weaknesses, saying one platform is better then another is personal opinion anymore.

Your DRM is even more restrictive, and always has been.  It's built right into the hardware.

More restrictive, less of an obstruction. And I'm one of the few who actually had to perform a full license transfer for digital content. As long as you're only interested in the vanilla experience, Console and PC have equal problems and advantages... Not ever having to worry about compatibility or driver issues is worth all the graphical fidelity in the world to some people. To say nothing of half-assed PC ports that are sort of a plague lately.

It would be no obstruction at all if there were better console emulators available.  But there aren't, and that continues to surprise me.

It requires tons of processing power to emulate hardware at the software level. We just don't have that kind of power now to emulate last gen consoles.

I recall a PlayStation emulator that was sold in major retail stores not too many years ago.  Bleem.

never heard of it... but I''m a console gamer for the most part so that probably means little.

Looks like EA definitely learned their lesson after the Simcity debacle.

Incoming second free game after second biggest DRM failure in gaming history? (both by the same company).

We love you Bioware but tell EA they are drunk and need to go home.

----

EDIT*** To clarify, the reason everybody got pissed off with Simcity is the game would stop playing/kick you out if the 'connection' went down during play. However, during the first week, it wasnt OUR internet connections going down, it was the servers. So the first week was a complete and utter POS experience where the game would randomly kick you out mid-play because EA decided "always on DRM" was a good idea.

Yeh, lets do that again.

I look forward to the day when all games are digital downloads and the whining over most of these issues has gone down. When the people shrieking they'll never buy a game digitally because they want to 'own' it inevitably still play modern (as in, modern for the future) video games. Always online connections are indeed a concern, but most of the other things aren't.

I'm curious which big publisher will take the initiative and just stop selling boxed games entirely first.

"Hey Bob, want to play Call of Duty 28947594934?"

"I cant Sam. I got mine digitally and the servers that check if mine is authentic were shut down because the publisher went under."

"Don't sweat it. I still got the physical disc, no pesky online checkpoints to deal with."

"Dude, you are so f*cking lucky that you didn't fall for that DD BS."

"I kind of saw this kind of thing coming. Now let's go blow the heads off some space nazi hamster bots!"

They were sued by Sony and eventually folded due to being bankrupted by the lawsuits (at least from what I remember from the time).

I've looked at all the different sites that have a pre-order available and game-fly is the only one that says this. Although none of them have any type of computer specifications available other than windows 7 or better. So until they get proper specifications I wouldn't put to much stock in this just yet.

Gamefly says the same thing about many Origin games that don't require a persistent Internet connections. It's almost meaningless.

I know right. It's still to early to be worrying about this we still don't know what the system requirements will be.

BioWare need to work heavily on DRM and DLC authorization. I won't play ME3 again because of that, as several of my DLC cannot be recognized ("EA help" didn't help).

I still have some issues with Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect and I have to make... unorthodox things... to make the game work properly with the DLCs I own.

I hear ya Cheylus.  I've totally removed EA Origins from my pc.  The Origins client messes up my game every time I allow it access to Dragon Age.  If I want to play Dragon Age, then I can't have Origins on my system at the same time.  I've done the whole customer service thing and accessed all of their help sections on this issue.  I have the Collector's Edition and it's not even recognized now by the EA Origins Client.  If you allow the Origins client to update or repair your game it messes it up everytime with DLC access.  Yeah they really need to work on this and people have been begging them to fix this for the last couple of years.

Yeah, not liking the idea of the Origins Client, seems to override the game files and authorization.  Will not purchase if I can't play the game offline.  Sometimes you don't want to log into the internet to play.   I just want to be able to register my game with EA and Bioware and that is it.  I'm done with the Origins Client.  The Origins Client totally removed my ability in DA2 to even configure my game if I wanted to change the settings.

I'd like to purchase a few more titles from EA but won't because of the Origins Client.  Not happening.

The problem is that EA's reputation on this is sketchy enough to be believable, and after ME3, enough to be believable they'd do it to BioWare as well.

I don't quite follow this. What does Origin have to do with DAO in the first place, and why would it want access?

I figure its more for some kind of DRM checkin versus the game murders itself if your internet drops out for a second.

Like for install and random checkins as in you can't just install it once, disconnect and go.

I wish they'd just come out and say "guys, don't worry, it's like ME3" if that's how it is. No need for a long, detailed official response that needs to go through so many hoops. Chances are fans may just misunderstand any way, similar to how what we're reading now may very well be a misunderstanding.

Only problem I have with ME3's method is that I really don't get why they remove the notification for DLC checking in the midst of the the procedure and then put it back on. It's like it's trolling me every time I boot up the game ;)

I really hate that EA uses that as some sort of "Can do no wrong" excuse for their methods.

Do they really though? I've seen tons of satire on that point but can't remember ever reading any official statement that says anythign remotely similar to that.
