I think  one of the big draws for the murder knife is that it provides a violent resolution to confrontations without actually starting a fight. There's a power in being able to stab someone before they raise an alarm or before they can draw their blade. To me, that's the attraction.

yeah, but when i kill someone like anders or kelder, i really want to smack them with a giant hammer or use the spell that hawke uses on the ogre to pull them to pieces, not the murder knife

Would've made for an awesome addition as the final skill in the force Mage tree. Just rip something completely limb from limb.

That spell was Crushing Prison which had a special animation when it killed enemies like the giant spider and Arishok.

It was in the game. The animation happened whenever you staggered an Ogre (or similarly sized enemy) and used Crushing Prison to kill them.

DAO's endings about Cullen are just rumours though, with some of endings there he wouldn't be able to be in Kirkwall and I think they were confirmed as rumours. I don't see Cullen changing as character or having different backstory according to players previous choices. Well depending who you sided with in DA2 he might have mention but I doubt even that'd change his backstory and his character much. If this was a case some DAI games would have Leliana dead and I doubt that's going to happen, she is alive even if you killed her in DAO. Probaply previous choices are just little mentions in DAI and don't affect characters that's much.

No, bioware at one point had to point out that many of their epilogue slides were stated as rumors and so didn't necessarily have to be true. Many Cullen fans use this to say that the possible ending where Cullen goes insane was nothing but a rumor. Cullen's appearance and role in da2 is unaffected by origins, but it's never been stated whether or not they defaulted his role in origins. We probably won't find out until inquisition either.
