This is how I had to play it out in my last game, since I couldn't get the red dialogue choice for some reason. Difference was, since I didn't get re-instated as a spectre, shep's line was, "I used to be a spectre, too." ... then he fired.

Yeah :) The paragon option dialogue also changes if you save/destroy Destiny Ascension and kill/release the rachni queen. One of the few instances where your choices are referenced

shep: Use it. Get angry. Someday that anger is going to be the only ammunition you have left, and Jason Prangley is going to save your life again.

Grissom Academy is much, much better without Jack, it really shows the struggles that the kids have with coming to terms with being ripped from their normal and sheltered lives and being thrust straight into war. Rodriguez coming up to you and asking how you felt when you first killed someone was the highlight.

I gained a real appreciation for the atmosphere and setting that Bioware were aiming for in ME3 when I played default, so much so that I've based my canon save around many of the default choices. I've made a few changes, such as when certain squad mates die, and I've fleshed out the world more by doing side quests, loyalty missions and DLC in previous games, and the only major change I made from default is that Wrex is alive(I shoot him later in ME3), so the game still retains its overall feeling of despair.

Yes, it's depressing as f***, I remember having to put down the controller at certain points when I played default(I played default first before importing on the advice of Priestly), because of the amount of loss and death I witnessed, so much so that by the end I just wanted to end it and I jumped into the Synthesis beam. The Rachni were gone, Quarians gone, Hanar and Krogan, guaranteed to be gone, Tali and most of the past squadmates, gone, I watched Miranda die in Shepards arms ffs. It was sad....and I loved every minute of it.

Thank you for showing me the light Priestly, playing default first was the best decision I ever made. It showed me what Bioware could do if they actually focused on writing a set story instead of trying to fit the narrative around multiple choices from previous games. Being able to import choices from previous games in the series's greatest strength, but bah gawd it sure as hell it's greatest weakness as well.

I think I'm going to take my canon Shepard through ME3 again, my current perfect war assets play through has gotten stale and boring and has stalled at ME2.

Much as I like the way Jack developed as a character in ME3, I have to agree. I've done two playthroughs in a row now where she's died on the suicide mission in ME2, and Grissom Academy plays out better without her.

Aria T'Loak: Shepard remains cool under pressure. Mind clear, sh*t together. Take a good, hard look — that’s what fearlessness looks like.

Don't know, I prefer a version with Jack. Maybe because she's my canon romance

I have enough grim in the game, those moments with further squadmates help to ease it a bit. Garrus and Liara on Sur'Kesh shuttle ride, Jack on the shuttle ride from Grissom Academy, Grunt's last stand (if loyal), stopping Samara... I loved those little moments and the paragon speech in the end really emphasized them. Even Jacob has something cool about his cameo (that last shot when covering Shepard).

That said, a version without Jack shows realities of war much better. Like Garrus says after meeting Prangley - "Damn war"

Mars:

Giant big sandstorm.

Liara: "That storm is going to be here very soon"

Shep: "Yeah, I think it's already here"

Liara: "Good point"

It's bit lame, but lol

Also, the whole Sur'Kesh scenario with Wrex, Liara and Garrus.

"There goes the next Shadow Broker"

" I think he was muttering T'Soni this whole time"

" Not Funny!"

I always groan during that exchange, Liara's response makes no sense.

I get that. I guess I'm appreciating a Grissom Academy mission sans Jack because it's a rare thing.

One of the best renegade lines, "I'm angry. When I get angry I shoot things. Find me more bugs!"

And

"Someone up there needs my boot up his ass."

Yah, that's what make this line funny. It's so lame and no sense that it's funny.

Ratch: The human returns. This time with more creds, I hope.

Also love this little note to ME1:

How pyjaks got to Tuchanka

Ratch: An alien trader landed here a few years back. He had goods salvaged from some place called Eletania. Said they were stowaways. They swarmed off his ship and started stealing food and sh*tting everywhere.

Shepard: I can't imagine you let him walk away after that.

Ratch: Not a chance. One ball of pyjak dung nailed the leader of Clan Forsan across the forehead. That's apparently grounds for execution.

Audio Log: Grunt addresses new Aralakh Company recruits:

Recruit: Still don't understand why they put a tank-grown freak in charge of a whole company.
Grunt: [laughter] And I don't understand why they gave me whining pyjaks for soldiers.
Recruit: I have more years on the battlefield than you have kills, runt.
Grunt: Trying to mate with Salarian females doesn't count as fighting.
Recruit: No-one talks to - [hrgk!]
Grunt: Someone help him up. We move in an hour.

Too bad we don't get an actual audio of that exchange.

Not much of a Garrus fan this really got to me the other day for some reason.

"Go out there and give them hell! You were born to do this...."

*tong*

"Goodbye Garrus and if I'm up there in that bar and you're not i'll be looking down. I'll always have your back"

Javik: He has a bigger hole than your Council's defense plan.

Zaeed: Son of a b!tch! Move!

Shepard: Get down!

Garrus: Definitely like old times!

Pallin: You humans are always so curious. Always sticking your fingers into someone else's pie. Is that the right expression?

Wrex: Ha! I got head lice bigger than you, Junior.

Shepard: You didn't fail. You gave us a chance. And we're not done yet.

Shepard: Guys? Were you gonna say something, or... No, no, I get it. Hard to even find the words.

Femshep to Anderson - "Stay with me - we're almost through this."  Shephard all beaten up and bloodied, the music and the knowledge that they're not almost through this makes this one of the sadder moments of the game.

Noles: Is that... do you want me to arrest him?

Shepard: I want you to put a bullet in his head... but we're all making some sacrifices today.

Shepad: If I know Grunt your answer is coming at muzzle velocity.

Grunt: You do know Grunt! This varren is dead!

Grunt: I get it. I hate turians. I thought you'd be glad.

Garrus: …everybody was fighting the rachni, trying to push them back through the relay. Finally, the krogan were turned loose and stopped them.
Javik: I see.
Garrus: But when the krogan rebelled, we had to deploy the genophage to stop them. Wasn't the only rebellion. A thousand years later, the geth revolted against the quarians. That was a whole other war. Then along came the humans -- my own people tangled with them for a while -- and now, to top it all off, we've got the Reapers. What about you?
Javik: The Oravores fought the Densorin. The Enduromi conquered the Vandomar, and the Zha'til turned against the Zha.
Garrus: So… I guess nobody ever really ever gets their act together.
Javik: The Synril claimed to have found the path to eternal peace.
Garrus: What happened?
Javik: The Ditakur preferred war and wiped them out.
Garrus: I hope you guys had alcohol.

Had forgotten how rich the dialogue and story can be with an imported character over a created one for ME3, as well as wealthier and more experienced. The Tuchanka storyline really becomes a bit bleak when one realizes they no longer have certain past decisions any longer.

Why do you think I almost went crazy because of playing ME1 again, and literally for the 30th time?

No wonder I now have my saves stored both online and in an USB drive :P

I remember when I played through the first time and I didn't even go to grissom academy and I reached the final battle and found Jack as a phantom that was heart breaking for me because she is one of my favorite crew members.

"A plague zone? Great."

"It's safer to stick with a squad who's immune to the plague."

"I'm not afraid of a disease. I don't get sick."

*A few moments later*

*Heavy breathing* "I do not get sick!"
