I'll see your Broodmother and raise you an Architect. Creepy alien doom-messiah with a ghoul harem. There's psychological horror potential there way beyond the Broodmother's straight body horror.
I think there's a companion that's even worse.
But hard to argue with Vaughan. I can see the shape of that 'romance,' and it would be a head-splitting conglomeration of terrible hateful cliches. A writer could be doing it 'ironically,' as a send-up of romance narrative conventions, but... yeahno.
