Buttons & Levers (For Floors and Walls)
#1
Posté 26 avril 2014 - 01:30
I was quite surprised to find only one "moveable" (floor) lever in the toolset, and even more surprised to not be able to find any other custom ones.
Does anybody:-
A ) Know of any custom "moveable" buttons (depress) or levers (swing) posted elsewhere?
B ) Fancy designing a few "moveable" buttons and levers (for walls and floor)? (I don't know how to do this.)
Having buttons and levers that actually "move" when used would be a good addition to the toolset. Currently, I am trying to work with other placeable objects in some very strange ways to make them look like such, but they are both static and lack the proper look.
Many thanks,
Lance.

From what I know the only movable/animated objects created is a bridge gate, some traps, a catapult and a roof fan. Also an airship with a propeller. Sorry I don't mention authors but... Oh and some trapdoors if I am not mistaken. So I guess for the people who know how it could be possible to create. Me, I am just talking
. Kidding aside, I could also use things like that. That one lever could get boring after some uses.

No, unfortunately, I don't know of any such buttons or levers, but we should really have some. I need to check how the animations for placeables work before I start making one.

I didn't work at all on my module this past few days, but I didn't lose my time.
Lance, I know you were looking for levers and buttons, but I first worked on torch holders (then pressure plate) as they fit more in my campaign! ![]()

It would be nicer and more understandable to incline the torch if the door above was some secret section of a wall sliding, but for the picture, I guess it would do.

Here's the progress so far:

From left to right: one torch holder, one lever in the niche, one torch holder, and the lever (model #3, NX2) for which the animation didn't work (at least for me).

As the lever in the wall recess is the same color of the wall (after all, it's supposed to open a secret passage), here above a screenshot when it's highlighted.

And now, when the levers have been activated: the first torch rotated around the holder to the left, the lever in the niche went down, the other torch rotated around the pillar to the right and the snake lever went down.

Different angle, to show the lever from the wall.

All the treasure chests are movable objects. They really aren't hard to do once you have created the placeable as the movement is generally a single, simply shift.

Hi 4760,
EDIT: I just reread and looked closer at your pictures and had to edit my reply. ![]()
You said, "And now, when the levers have been activated: the first torch rotated around the holder to the left, the lever in the niche went down, the other torch rotated around the pillar to the right and the snake lever went down."
How have you managed to make these levers "move" then? They are looking good! ![]()
Also, re Secret Doors, check this blog entry of mine made in 2010:

Hi andysks,
"That one lever could get boring after some uses" ... I agree. ![]()
Hi E.E.
I think you may have misunderstood me ... or I may be misunderstanding you. I mean "animated" as opposed to "move" in that sense. i.e. The lever "moves" or "animates" as opposed to being "static". I was hoping to have a few more "animated" buttons and "levers". Sorry about any confusion.
Lance.

That's called movement. A treasure chest opening and shutting is an animated, moving object. It doesn't have to get up and run away, that's locomotion.

Hi E.E.
EDIT: Actually, wouldn't you call that a frightened "Mimic"?
Did you see how 4760 has managed to make the levers change position when you click on them? That's what I mean .... The levers he has "moving" don't do that in the OC. I reckon we need more buttons and levers that show a change in position like that after they have been used.
Cheers,
Lance.

Thanks! As Eguinter said: for the torches, I just rotated the model (the most difficult part was to find out how the animation files had to be named!)
For the lever, I added a static base (not visible, as it is supposed to be protruding from a wall) and made the lever itself the moving part.
For the snake lever, I recreated the model and the animation (it never worked for me, though the gr2 files did exist. By the way, they are incorrectly named. But even with the expected name, the animation didn't work.)
I'll now make a button and a pressure plate, and release all in a single package.

I welcome the package, and look forward to it.
Many thanks for doing this.

<light-footing it...>
If someone was up to the conversion, you might look at all the floor & wall mounted switches, buttons and pressure plates Tiberius_Morguhn made for his placeables project in NwN1.
Some of them can be seen in his project thread, and the old Vault but he really doesn't display all the stuff he's done. Guess he's shy that way :-P

That looks like a healthy selection that would be good to have in addition to those 4760 is working on already.
What are the chances 4760?

I downloaded the .mdl earlier in the afternoon
.
I'm almost done with the pressure slabs, the only problem I've got at the moment is that I made them unwalkable!
Yep, forgot the C2/C3 part...

Hi 4760,
C2/C3? I don't know about that kind of thing, so it is good that you do.
I look forward to seeing them in action. (As I am sure many others may do as well.) I already have quite a few needs for them.

Oups... Sorry: that's the shortname for the collision data for the placeables. I finally found another way to do it anyway: create a floor placeable with the pit where the pressure slab would go, and create the slab itself. It will be easier for baking that way!
Currently testing the placeables ![]()
Don't mind the colors (Lance, I hope you can see the "3D")
Edit: pictures not available (site maintenance), will copy/paste pictures URL later...

As promised:

I guess I'll have to get the textures of the tilesets to make the pressure floor placeables match seamlessly.

Another pressure slab (round this time):

Time to convert the NWN1 levers now. Maybe I'll add a few wall buttons first though, or work on some NWN2 statues (rotate the head? move the arm? push the eyes?).

And here we go: the eyes of the statue (red) disappear when the statue is activated (still there, but the shadows make them black).

These are all absolutely superb!
Excellent work ... and worth a 10/10 in my opinion.
I look forward to getting them into my campaign ... and making good use of them.

Thanks Lance.
I found some statues from NWN1 that were easy to adapt: a frost giant, whose belt decoration had something that looked like a button:

and some prayer, which for the fun I decided to break.
Not sure what use we could find for this one, but who knows... maybe a quest where these statues grant the bad guy his powers?

Hi 4760,
This will be a very interesting package to play around with by the looks of it. ![]()
Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Pretty cool stuff. For those floor pressure plates, you might want to have some matching inert placeables so builders can disguise the location of the trap.
