What i mean is, how will my ME1 import affect my ME2 character's level?
How does my lvl in ME1 affect my level in ME2?

Level ?-49 gives you level 2 in ME2 to start with. Level 50-59 has you start at Level 3 in ME2. Level 60 has you start at level 5.
Do not stress getting to level 60. It is better to not be a high level at the start of the game because then the enemies are stronger, but you don't yet have the upgrades you need to fight them. This is especially the case with a New Game Plus. Level 3 is a perfectly fine starting level in ME2.

You cant level past 50 in ME1 unless you start up NG+. Once you do your first NG+, then you can take any character you want past 50 on their first time through.

My post was referring to importing an ME1 character to ME2
I have done a playthrough in ME1 doing everything and the highest level I got to was at level 54

First playthrough of ME1 - Lv 1-50ish, though more is possible
Second playthrough of ME1 - Lv 50-60ish, depending on how much you did on each playthrough
Third playthrough of ME1 - May be required for Lv 59-60, depending on how much you did on each playthrough; otherwise not needed
ME1 Lv 1-49 = ME2 Lv 2
ME1 Lv 50-59 = ME2 Lv 3
ME1 Lv 60 = ME2 Lv 5 (because Lv 60 is a real sign of dedication)
And reminder that whatever your ME2 level (Lv 1-30) ends up being at the end of it, is more directly translated to ME3 (Lv 1-30 out of Lv 1-60).
It should be possible to reach Lv 30 in one playthrough of ME2, regardless of DLC. The ME1-ME2 level import just makes it easier to do earlier.
ME1 lends itself to doing one or two NG+, but it isn't so useful that you need to do it.
ME2 isn't nearly as designed for NG+ but more for Continue+. Doing NG+ is really just there if you want to use acquired level/armor/weapons.
ME3 has a Continue+ of sorts, but also is the most encouraging of NG+, opening weapon levels that may help you. I'd suggest at least one or two NG+ for ME3, then using Armax Arena in Citadel DLC to get the last of Credits for maxing out weapons.

lvl 41? That's low...
Have you fought all the enemies outside the Mako? Killing them with the Mako cuts the XP points in half. Also, Pinnacle Station DLC offers a great deal of XP.

I've even had a level 37 character imported into ME2
What I do is just the missions to move the story forward and in the Mako I just ignore the Geth to get where I need to go.

You know, Mike, by now I would think you would have a Shepard with every possible background and every possible class in ME1. Seems to me you could be reusing them for NG+ games. I know if I want a Colonist/Ruthless femshep, or a Colonist/Sole Survivor femshep I have two already to go. In fact, I am pretty sure I have at least 2 Colonist/Sole Survivor femsheps, one an infiltrator, one an Adept. I may even have a Vanguard one. (If I wanted an Engineer, however, I would have to start from scratch.)

Beating ME1 the first time on any difficulty is what unlocks the ability to go over level 50, you shouldn't necessarily have to start an NG+.
Now you will need an NG+ at some point to get to 60 because max starting from level 1 for a non-starting playthrough is something like 57 or 58 with DLC.
I agree that it isn't a big deal to start with a level 60 import in ME2 although I always liked to do that.

True. I mostly do it for the challenge. When I do new game plus the game is too easy. In fact insanity is too easy.
I'm also at the point with all the playthroughs I've done in the trilogy that I just have a different name for each Shepard just to say the playthrough is different.

I have never done NG+ and all my characters, except the first, finished at level 55.
You unlock levels above 50 by completing the game once. NG+ has nothing to do with it.

Going past 50 and NG+ go hand in hand. Both unlock at the same time.
I tend to finish 55-56 with fresh characters with a very long drag of leveling in NG+ when I go for 60, because its interesting to start with stronger enemies when I have a semi decent start on powers.

Petty semantics. Though I rather a correction like this than some of the **** I've been getting cause I told someone their vaunted creator of a card game doesnt know how their own game works.

I usually import at around level 50. In all honesty I don't think it matters much other than maybe to give you leg up for Freedoms Progess and then maybe the first recruitment mission. ME 2 maxes out at level 30 and you are going to max out way before you get even close to being done with your playthrough.

^ Freedom's Progress can be a bit of a pain.
I don't think I ever started ME2 from Level 1 though in all the times I have played it since I always imported. Lowest that I did was 56 maybe.

Now that I can use Gibbed Save Editor on PS3 saves, I just create new characters in Mass Effect 2 whole cloth. It's not that I don't enjoy playing Mass Effect 1, but it's just faster this way.

Bit late for a reply to this but remember that it's killing them outside the Mako that matters. You can use the Mako to almost kill them then get out to finish them off. Makes getting thresher maw XP much easier. I stay in the Mako for geth armatures and collosi on Virmire though if I can use it to push them into the sealvl 41? That's low...

On Virmire (and Illos) if you are a biotic you probably have fast enough cooldown on Master Lift to keep the Colossi perpetually in the air.
And if not, Garrus or Tali can lend a Sabotage every once in a while.

I can't remember who has exactly what powers - so if you bring the most biotic team possible could you have a game of Colossus volleyball? On Virmire (and Illos) if you are a biotic you probably have fast enough cooldown on Master Lift to keep the Colossi perpetually in the air.

After 8 playthroughs, I have never killed anything in the Mako. I shot the canon once and jumped out. I never went back, only to transport.
