Well that's subjective, I thought Fallout 3 was uninspiring for the most part, partly for reasons outlined in that image (locations being pointless to explore and being copy and pasted). You mention ideas being ripped from Van Buren as if it's a bad thing, that was going be the original Fallout 3 and then we got New Vegas from it (mainly because New Vegas was being designed by several developers who had worked on Van Buren so I don't see the crime with them using their assets for a game that never released) which is certainly much more true to Fallout lore than 3 was with factions and the like.
It's not like Bethesda even made Fallout 3's setting or anything, they simply brought an established IP with an established setting and made "Oblivion with guns" with a stereotypical linear story from it so you can't really say Obsidian did wrong for the fact that they took from Van Buren. I agree New Vegas is lacking too (I never said it's the best RPG/game ever) but I still think it's the better RPG & Fallout game.
I felt like Fallout 3 was a great game, but not as great as New Vegas overall.
I felt like New Vegas had superior characters, plot and quests.
I did like Fallout 3's location better and I liked that it felt more populated than New Vegas.
Fallout 3 pretty much mixed the plot of Fallout and Fallout 2 together into a single game (I.E. You must leave the vault and never come back. The Enclave; even their plan was the exact same in terms of killing everyone that has mutations of any sort with a modified strain of FEV).
Despite my claims, I enjoyed them both. I am grateful to Fallout 3 for introducing me to the series and to Bethesda for allowing Obsidian Entertainment to show us their version of Fallout 3 (New Vegas).
I think it would be a match made in Heaven if Bethesda was responsible for programming and designing the game world and Obsidian was responsible for the writing of Fallout 4.
To tell the truth, I'm pretty much ready for whatever is thrown at me. I really want a Fallout 4, it and Elder Scrolls 6 are my most wanted games.
