All 4 DLCs of New Vegas are cool, in different ways.
Can anyone remember? Fallout 1 and 2 were infested with Giant rats and Radscorpions (based on my few hours of gameplay!).

What about explosive slave collars, poisonous gas and deadly unkillable holograms combined?
TBH I would love to explore more vaults and learn of their experiments.
Why would anyone do this to Fallout? That was so cringe-worthy (although whoever made it is clearly a pro at animating that engine so credit to where it is due but still).
Nah Mousestalker while i like MLP and Fallout Equestria was cool and all...Nah Fallout 4 NEEDS to have Nukabreak cameos.
For all those claiming FO3 has a better atmosphere, that's because the settings are different .
Despite being hit by the bombs 200 years prior, FO3 has the atmosphere of a game clearly post-apocalypse. Whereas New Vegas is in transition to a post-post-apocalypse setting. The post-apocalypse being the stories of Fallout 1 and 2. NV isn't a post-apocalyptic game in the traditional sense. The driving motif isn't "how do we rebuild society?", it's " what kind of society do we build?"
It's one of the reasons I firmly believe Avellone used nukes as a plot device in Lonesome Road. It's an admission that the Fallout setting cannot continue as-is and still be "Fallout" without a literal reset button - it's progressed too far to be about the "fall out" anymore.
All I hope from Fallout 4 is that it's not set on the West Coast. Bethesda can make a pretty environment and fun game, but they know next to ****** nothing about the themes and ideas that underpin the Fallout universe beyond superficial plot elements.
I think that's pretty much accurate - NV doesn't really feel post-apocalyptic - though it's still a legitimate basis for preferring FO3.
I don't know that they necessarily have to continue to move away from post-apocalyptic environments, though, given that only small portions of the world have been explored thus far. They could easily shift a little further back in time and do a region that just hasn't been accounted for in the lore to date, or another area like D.C. that probably got hit a lot harder than Vegas did. The main factor in Vegas being in better shape, as far as I could tell, was not so much that a lot of time had passed but that it wasn't directly attacked in the war.
Super Mutants don't have poison tho. And I actually like the Cazador's, its fun to have enemies that you are afraid of.
Cazadores were tough, but what really kicked my ass on my first playthrough were two of the vaults - the one with the hostile plants, and the one that's heavily irradiated somewhere in the middle of the map. I remember limping around with a concussion and my vision going blurry every couple minutes trying to finish the one with the plants because I'd run out of stimpaks and doctor's bags. (I think that was also the one where I told Veronica and ED-E to wait outside, as I'm not a big fan of the companion combat dynamic, and due to a glitch they just suddenly appeared behind me at one point - by then, I was glad they turned up.) And in the irradiated vault, I reached a point where I gave up on whatever I was trying to do and just made a beeline for the exit in the hopes of getting out before my rad count hit 1000.

dude don't go there unless you have a tone of rad x and away. you get a ton of weapons.
Las Vegas was attacked, but House was mostly successful in defeating the inbound missiles by disarming them in flight or destroying them with a point defense laser system.
He tells you 77 missiles targeted Vegas and that he took out 68 of them; and that if the Platinum Chip had made it to him on time, he would have had a 100% success rate. So, only 9 missiles landed in the region, although none of these directly hit the Strip. He considered this performance "less than optimal" or words to that effect.
I suppose this is why NV feels a bit less apocalyptic.
That and by the time FNV takes place the NCR is a large and organized army. The original Fallout took place in California but had a stronger post apocalyptic vibe to it. The only large settlement was The Hub. Other settlements were small towns like Goodsprings in FNV. After the events of Fallout 2 the NCR becomes this massive, conquering force and because of their presence in FNV the area feels less lawless unless you go a ways off the beaten path.
Personally, I hope they move away from FO3's post apocalyptic vibe if FO4 takes place further down the timeline. FO3 was not a terrible game IMO, but I found the interactions between NPCs and factions vying for power in FNV more interesting. FO3's map was fun to explore. It was nice stumbling into little surprises here and there. But the world felt a bit too empty for my tastes.

Well even FO3 was too post-apocalyptic for where it was in the timeline. There should have been more progress in rebuilding, even with the (overabundance) of raiders/mutants/etc. The bombs landed (close to) 300 years earlier, people shouldn't be living in makeshift buildings/towns.
Yes, true. The Capital Wasteland looked like how I imagine that area would only a few years after the missiles hit at most. I did not want to bring this up before, but since we are here now... I dislike how FO3 fits into the canon. That is one of several reasons why.
Not that said canon has always been logically consistent elsewhere, but there is a clear progression from Fallout through Fallout 2 and FNV that FO3 sidesteps. I try not to mention this stuff in hopes of avoiding any FO3 vs FNV debates; and to avoid coming across as dismissive of the opinions of FO3 fans. I get why some folks prefer FO3, even if I do not.
I know this is an obnoxious thing to say but I would love to see even more skills and even more perks.
Also a perk per level instead of once every two levels.
Also ditch rank 2, rank 3 etc. Just have all perks single ranks but more of them.
In the end of the day, if they reduced the number of skills and perks it wouldn't be a big of a deal (unless they went full on DAI in their approach) but one of the most fun things to do for me was looking at perks and their descriptions. I love mulling over them, with their absurd descriptions and even more absurd perk names.
"Mr Sand Man" is just completely bizarre yet hilarious at the same time!
What about Zenimax handling the writing?
They handled Elder Scrolls Online.

FO3 is supposed to be exactly 200 years after the bombs fell, IIRC.
I agree that the Wasteland does seem to be in worse shape than you'd think after 200 years. I'm not an expert on the Fallout lore, but one possible explanation might be that, for a long time after the bombs, the radiation was so intense that nobody could survive above ground for very long, and that most of the NPCs we meet in FO3 are descendants of people who migrated to the D.C. area from somewhere else in the intervening period rather than people who were there when the bombs first fell.
(Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong - I think I recall Rivet City keeping some historical records that went back to the mid-2200s but not much further, but I don't remember if anyone ever said how long Megaton or Tenpenny Tower had been around.)
Cazadores, I want to see cazadores in Fallout 4. They are the best bugs.
Finally something from Bethesda other than dust and tumble fu@#ing weeds:
Bethesda is going to hold an E3 press event for the first time ever...14 June 15. Too big a deal to announce something new in their lower tier franchises. That pretty much leave ES, New IP, or FO Next.
I'm betting on the latter...FO3 released 7 years ago; FONV released 5 years ago.
Anything other than those three and they're going to have a full fledged riot on their hands.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, I fully expect this to be the new Doom that hasn't been shown to the public yet (excluding the limited showing at Quake-Con). ![]()
Houses that feel like houses and not like life sized cardboard boxes
Like I said...RIOT!
Since when would Bethesda care?
The rioters will still buy the game.
Beth Blog lit up like a Christmas tree. Most think its FO4. Some however, are hedging their bet for a new IP, Doom 4 and FO4 announcement since its the first time Beth has ever announced, or even held, an E3 press event.
