Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get The One and Only achievement in the Citadel DLC. It's the mirror match where you play against Spectre level opponents. I can defeat the first wave, but after that it just seems ridiculous, I'm only playing on normal as well. I've purchased different types of armour to see if that would give me an edge, but that doesn't seem to help either. My character is also at Level 60, with maximum power, but I still don't appear to be strong enough. I'm probably not the best at combat, but this is the only Citadel achievement I don't have and would really like to get it before I finish the game.

If anyone has any tips on getting through this, would really appreciate it.

Rob

Give your team mates Typhoons. Put them in cover. Go for a coffee break.

Basically you might be able to argue the second wave is the hardest wave.

Wave 1: Pure Classes w/ respawn (Adept, Engineer, Soldier)

Wave 2: Hybrid Classes w/ respawn (Infiltrator, Sentinel, Vanguard)

Wave 3: All Classes, no respawn

Basically when you kill the Vanguard in 3 it is a lot less annoying.

Anyway I talked about this a bit in my little guide about the Combat Engineer when I was in Armax.  Set the map to something decent like Pain Train, Wingman, or maybe Blasteroid.  Primeval is annoying, and some of the others allow them too much freedom in how they will approach.  Brimstone is sort of crappy because it is close.

What class are you playing and what is your build?  What weapons are you trying to use?  I think Soldier is one of the better classes for this, some may prefer Vanguard or Sentinel w/ Fortification.

Take squadmates that synergize well with your class.  Supposedly James and Garrus or Ash w/ Typhoons plays the match by itself, but I don't have that weapon so I can't tell you from first hand experience.

Mainly you just need to be able to maneuver and dodge their powers.  Once you get hit by one, it is likely you will get hit by several others (they tend to send them in volleys).  Having squad mate powers hotkeyed that will stagger them is helpful.

Thanks for the replies. I've been trying to do it in Pain Train, Wingman and the Armax Arena, as they seem the best areas to play in, with Garrus and Ash as teammates. I haven't used Typhoons, but will have a go with those and see what happens. My character class is Adept, so not the best for combat, but like you said, keeping on the move and dodging powers is always a good game plan. I'll see if swapping from normal to easy and back again will help too.

You can area prime with Ash's Inferno Grenade and then use your powers (like throw) to detonate.  Or if you have Garrus's Overload spec'd with at least one chain it will be a nice detonator.  If you hotkey both of their concussive shots, it will stagger the spectres and allow you to hit them with your powers more easily.

I have found that playing in an arena where you can lock down part of the layout by holding the bottleneck is particularly effective. I ended up winning this fight in the moving train level, where I locked down one part of one of the trains, and then let them come to me. Took a while, but as long as you can keep your squad on the bottleneck and the space you've got locked down clear of the vanguard clones, you should be golden.

Have you tried using different squad mates? Given their biotics, Liara and Wrex might make for a better squad.

I was able to do it with Wrex and Grunt in my party as a Sentinel Shep on Insanity.  Basically, focus on them one at a time.  You need to slightly change your tactics depending on which class you're focusing on and which wave you're on.

Wave 1:  Adepts, Engineers, Soldiers.

Basically, focus on the Adepts first, because they're the real heavy-hitters.  Focus all your fire on them and get their shields down.  If possible, try setting off fire explosions or biotic explosions when their shields are down because both of those do a large amount of damage to armor.

Next, take out the Soldiers.  They have Carnage and their Valkyrie does a good amount of damage, so you should try to keep them off balance.  Basically, just hammer them until they are dead.

Engineers is the easiest out of the three, So just focus fire on them until you've finished the wave.

Wave 2: Vanguards, Sentinels, Infiltrators.

All three of these hybrids are dangerous and thus, it can be hard to figure out which one to go after first.

The Vanguards do a lot of damage, but they don't stick around long when their shields are down, so it may be hard to finish them off.  They move around a lot, so sniping them will be difficult.

Infiltrators fight from a distance.  They're still dangerous at close range, but they'll simply cloak and try to get some distance from you.  They can one-shot your shields, but all you need to do is get out of the line of sight.

Sentinels are the tanks, and they deal a large amount of damage.  They are most dangerous at close range, but they are easy to spot due to their Tech Armor.  Focus on them first, since they will try to stay at close range longer than the Vanguards.  When they're down, try going for the Vanguards or the Infiltrators, depending on your playstyle.

Wave 3: Sentinel, Vanguard, Soldier, Adept, Infiltrator, Engineer.

With this mix of classes, you'll be getting hammered and will need to be extra careful.  Again, focus on the Adept first and use the same tactics as in Wave 1.  Next, focus on the Sentinel.  Save the Infiltrator and the Vanguard for last, as they are the trickiest to pin down.

After the Sentinel is down, focus on the Soldier, then the Engineer.  Deal with the Vanguard before taking down the Infiltrator.

Then again, I was running around with the Claymore as were Wrex and Grunt.   :P  I gave them melee mods because a lot of the fighting is going to be close range.

As for maps, I suggest Pain Train, because there are a lot of places you can bunker down and wait for everyone to come to you.  There's also a lot of cover, but maneuvering can be tricky (especially with Grunt and Wrex running around  :P).

I disagree. Engineers are the toughest enemy in wave 1. Adepts have a Warp/Throw and a grenade and a Hurricane, but they cannot stunlock you like the Engineer can. Engineers can hit you with an Incinerate, a rocket from their drone, then another Incinerate, all the while annihilating you with their Hurricane.

Wave 2: Vanguards, Sentinels, Infiltrators.

Always focus on the Vanguard. Vanguards can charge in (stunning you) and then Nova, removing your shields and most of your health. They can also Nova more than once.

Infiltrators are probably the easiest. You know clone Infiltrator is a poor imitation of the real thing when the clone thinks you infiltrate with a sniper rifle.

Wave 3: Sentinel, Vanguard, Soldier, Adept, Infiltrator, Engineer.

Again, I say you should deal with the Vanguards first since they are the most dangerous.

Apparently, Wrex and Grunt's AI do not play well against the mirror match so they are the worst squadmates to take into a mirror match.

Infiltrator Shep ends up being more like a Nemesis that can use a power once in a while despite running a Black Widow.
