Volus Mercenary - how to earn credits ?

So, I have a question about that little guy. He is maybe the only kit I truly dislike, right now. I have no idea about what to do with him...
I mean, I even like a lot of underloved kits like the saboteur, the vorcha engineer, the batsent... but not this one. I want to do something with him, but I don't know what. At all. I like pet powers, but honestly Decoy is not the best...
And following my teammates like a little puppy while spamming shield boost is out of the question, of course.
What's your playstyle with him ? Build, weapons... share your ideas. Even melee builds.
I mostly play on Gold.

Before casting a drone/decoy try to loose LoS (you can use light melee). Marauders, Captains, Phantoms , Geth , or Banshee's warp balls (if you get the timing right) will go for the pets.
Cast a drone/decoy and shoot the enemies with your incendiary Acolyte. Since the pets are specced for explosion, you will get FEs for days.
CSMG for armour (brutes, unshielded Banshees etc.) . Optional you can use Hurricane /Indra
/ Wraith...it all works. Since even with CM3/4 he's quite squishy abuse the hell out of RHA, I-frames & light melee cloak.

Really i treat him as a weapons platform, with mediocre damage but a lot of survivability once you know what you're doing. Only weapon that didn't work was ppr <.<

I use the Lancer (with accuracy consumables, idelally) with him because no granades so I can forget about ammo boxes. Cloack, get close to a group of weak enemies and drop an exploding decoy between them, shoot them with the lancer while they are stunned. Distract bosses with with the drone (and/or decoy in choke points) and keep shooting from a good distance. If you have speced the build for weapon damage (you should have) there's no reason why you can't score 100K+ with this little guy. If there's someone who can dettonate, incendiary ammo helps. If not, AP.

I, too, think that incidniary ammo is key.
I usually run with a PPR, though, which I find is fairly consistent in delivering the ammo.
Speccing your drone and decoy for stunning and exploding are key. This really slows down enemies and gives you and your teammates a chance to shoot at them uninterrupted. It also lets you be more effective with heavy melee.
And, as mentioned above, the use of cloak before placing decoys is better than simply placing the decoys.
I tend to put a few points into fitness and forget about maxing shield boost. Honestly, I rarely use shield boost when playing a volus.
I think I'm going to play this kit right now.

Zero hoots in fitness(same as every Volus) and use strong weapon, i.e. Arc Pistol.

66660 set both pets to shock and explode. I use geth spitfire with incendiary rounds when pugging gold and arc pistol with ap rounds when pugginn plat
I use any other armor gear than cyclonic because I really couldn't care less about fitness with a Volus. Once you learn to abuse his cloak, defensive stance and RHA, getting downed becomes really rare.

Scrub, OT his drone does a better job of being a decoy so full fitness + Claymore.

66660 (use a cyclonic if you have to), Talon, Pistol Amps for gear bonus and weapon slot bonus, AP IV ammo...
He's my favorite Volus. I use light melee cloak, run into mook spawns and pop decoy then drone. Then mop up the confusion with my Talon. This without even mentioning the value of those pets against Primes and Phantoms, etc... Otherwise I just use him as the surprisingly good weapon platform that he is and Talon all the things, etc.

Volus Merc is the only one that makes any sense.
Niftu Cal all hopped up on Minogen X3 couldn't even do anything biotically. And as for the Engineer, how does he carry all those recon mines?

Think of him as an engineer rather than a sentinel. He seems more of one than the Volus Engineer, anyway.
So give him a nice tech weapon like an Adas or a PPR and melt stuff at range.

Cyclonic is a total waste on him. I think I did the math once and I'm not even sure it lets you take an extra cerberus engineer phalanx shot, let alone anything of import.

L2volusPPR.. in all seriousness I think it's fantastic on him. Cast pets, find RHA with LOS on the pets and melt face. Pretty simple.

I didn't like the ramp up time on him. I like the PPR plenty, just not on him. I always rolled Harrier and felt that worked best.

Harrier, Arc Pistol, Talon, etc. the usual weapons are fine as well. At this point, I want to try builds that I can use with infrequently used weapons. This build is a more hit and run in the shadows; suitable for this Volus' personality.

You don't earn credits as a volus, you die an horrible death in a fiery hurricane.
ps: yes, i hate volus

He's my favorite volus, though it took me a while to get used to him. I go 66446. Decoy and drone to shock and explode. Full fitness cause I'm scrubby. I don't max shield boost because I'm only using it to restore my own puny shields rather than inflicting it on others. I hate shield boost spammers so pretty much only use it on others when they complain their shields are down or I've just picked them up off the floor.
PPR with high velocity barrel, Incendiary IV. Shield Recharge III. For gear, Responder Loadout. I feel cyclonics are wasted on him, so go for faster shield regen instead.
Find a nice bit cover with RHA, such as the short hallway off the control tower on Dagger. Cloak and start the PPR ramping up. Paint heads all day.
Abusing light melee cloak is a must. Cloak before shooting, cloak before relocating, cloak before casting pets, cloak before reviving... you get the idea.
He's surprisingly hardy and great against primes since drone will always make them turn around. Good luck!
