I really don't want to. Please don't make someone ask for their skins for a quest.

And please don't make their fur a necessary component in crafting. I love crafting, but I also love cute animals. The anguish would probably tear me apart.

It would be by far the most difficult moral dilemma that Bioware has ever put in front of me.

I am not in favor of killing animals in video games does not, (except in Tomb Raider Lara was hungry and had to kill the deer)  :(  but this is not ... as those "protests" in the forums, plant a tree. And the people say "+1 I plant a tree I save the earth La la la" ... or "don't kill animals in forums", then goes to McDonald's?

I found the whaling aspect of Assassin's Creed IV to be extremely distressing,

What don't you find distressing?

My friends wife got super upset when we were playing the game and I showed him the whaling parts.  Especially when they were hauled up the side of the boat.

Ship, but that's awesome.

Eh I only will kill them if they offer XP or Loot.

Or if there is a fun quest for wiping them out to get a hat or something.

I :wizard:

Or kill them for their skins to make the epic hat.

Crafting System FTW.

Oh that would be so hype.

I can already imagine the seas of tears in the weeks following release.  B)

You know I would never go hunting or ever kill anything but I have no problem doing it in video games. It's also interesting that you all only seem to care about the cute animals.

I wouldn't call it interesting, i would call it weird. Like caring for a nonexistent being.

I like hunting in games. It adds to variation and crafting gives a senseful reason to kill things like bears, wolfs, deers or other animals - which is standart in games as long as i remember.

And after reading through this thread i started to wish, that the developers would turn these fox-things into the most ferocious, agressive beings, like the killer-bunny in knights of the cocnut.

well it's interesting because it's the same way many behave towards real life animals, They care more about the "cute" one's ect. I hope the hunting is optional for players that do not wish to do it but I just never had a problem with it in games, it doesn't feel the same to me.

Hm... I initially thought they were kinda cute, and then I saw several of them on the screen jumping around like they were on speed. IMO there is a great potential for them to be as annoying as the ghast, even with the cute factor.

So I'm also hoping that we don't have to kill them for a quest/crafting, if only because I don't want to go anywhere near them.

Every day poor giant spiders are hunted and killed for their silk and poison. For only 5 sovereigns a month, you can help save these creatures.

Sorry but i just fail to see what nonexistent digital beings have to do with real life animals. As if anyone that likes to hunt in games takes up a spear or a bow and runs into the wild to  fight the next best bugbear or deer. Ain't working that way - as you said yourself.

And in general, playing the whole game is optional for everyone.

As well to all who are so benelovent to nonexistent beings i would really like to know, are you the same in real life? Don't you eat any kind of meat? Have you no kind of clothes or shoes made of leather? Or do you think, a wolf, wildcat or eagle would be nicer to those "cute", "innocent" animals?

And if now anyone wishs to argument: "those are also animals and it's natural" then i wish to ask, since when is a human being no kind of animal and why does that make his behavior unnatural?

No mock. If you like hunting, then do it. It's just this acting as if everyone who likes to hunt in games hunt in real life as well seems riddiculous to me.

I don't hunt but i also don't regret  killing an animal in games as if i had to push myself to do it - like some posters sound as if hunting is something bad to do.

Maybe you are being a little bit aggressive here, no need to have a go at people just because their sensibilities are different to yours. Nobody is perfect and nobody is completely free from hypocrisy.

Some just have a harder time with certain area's of fiction hitting closer to home. It's like horror and gore in movies, some people are better at dissociating it with real life situations than others.

Humans are less likely to want to harm "cute" things because we are kind of programmed to want to protect cute things, like babies for example.

Agreed, I like to occasionally hunt when I visit my relatives and I like hunting animals in games, but doesn't mean everyone likes it.

For me, I have a problem with the killing of innocents, both human and animal, in games that happens to be non aggressive animals that aren't trying to chew my face off... I've always been this way, in every game I've played.  And yes, I'm the same IRL.

Cute animals are seen as cute because they look like babies.

Aggressive... hmm... maybe... it just seems so unbelievable unreasonable.

All this "ah sweet, innocent animal" and "bad, mean human"

I go for: if something is accepted as usual und regular in real life, why not in games?  If killing humans  and humanlike-beings in games has become standard as usual, then animals should be all the more.

Well, in real life you get save the pandas campaigns, and outcries against hunting baby seals.  I'm of the opinion that a large part of this is because of the cuteness each animal has for a lot of people (not all).

Agreed. So long as quests in which collecting x20 fox pelts isn't mandatory then i see no issue with animals being killable.

Why is there this subset of people who get super angry when confronted with compassion toward animals. Cute animals particularly.

"Oh but did you know your SHOES are made of dead animals! Where do you think all these shoes come from?! Magic Shoe Land?! How about I abduct you and leave you in the woods with no food and a loaded rifle!! Let's see how long your compassion lasts THEN!! I will be releasing one hundred blind lambs into the woods and I will not come back to get you until your SOUL has DIED!!"

This is a level of anger I usually don't experience unless I open my pepperoni lover's pizza I ordered only to find the pizza was made by those sick bastards who put the pepperoni under the cheese, may they burn forever in the fires of hell.
